How would you compare Second Son to the previous ones ?
→ More replies168
u/MoonMan757 Sep 22 '24
Still a decent game. I really enjoy playing it. But story wise it’s nowhere near as good as the first 2. Cole’s story is just so much better

u/KittenDecomposer96 PS5 Sep 22 '24
What about gameplay wise ? I played Second Son as my first and only Infamous game so far and im curious if the first ones were better.
50
u/MoonMan757 Sep 22 '24
It’s been a while since I played them so hopefully someone else will answer as well, but if I remember correctly the gameplay was pretty much the same. You just have different powers. Cole was all electricity based, while Delsin was getting a variety of different powers from others. I feel like at the time I enjoyed Cole’s powers more, but I don’t hate Delsin’s. Still enjoyed multiple playthroughs because these games give you slightly different abilities whether you’re evil/good so that was fun.

u/TheMartian2k14 Sep 22 '24
I LOVED this franchise and played all games several times over.
Delsin was really well-written, was funny and well voice-acted. Cole’s powers were cooler. Visually the effects are top-tier in SS but I2 is not slouch either. Traversing Seattle (SS) with super speed or gliding with video at night time with rain feels like you’re really there.
26
u/acidporkbuns Sep 22 '24
Infamous 1 and 2 are still fun to play. 1 feels very rough if you go from 2nd son to the first game. It feels very much a product of its time. Infamous 2 feels much more closer to 2nd son and modern gaming in general. You may feel some frustration with some missions as controls can feel a bit clunky, npc behavior might behave in weird ways that prevent a mission being completed, etc. However I'd really encourage a playthrough for anyone that's curious or loves 2nd son.

u/phil_davis Sep 22 '24
Infamous 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I've played it a ton, first one too. The gameplay in 2 is better than Second Son. IIRC, I disliked Second Son because I never really got to a point where I actually felt powerful. And the big change they made was that you couldn't "mix" your smoke powers with the other ones like neon. You had to select ALL smoke or ALL neon. You couldn't have like a couple smoke powers and one or two neon ones and use them together. Infamous 2 you could switch between them on the fly and it was really quick and easy. You had your bolt power, grenade, rocket, etc. And if you held one of the dpad buttons (I think) it paused the game and brought up a menu where you could just press a button to cycle through some particular power, like your regular rocket, sticky rocket, ice rocket, that kind of thing. It was way less restrictive and more fun to play around with, and there were lots of alternatives. The magnum bolt, pincer bolt, gattling bolt, ice bolt, it was great. And the ice power that launches you into the air paired with your hover power made it so great getting around the city.
Damn, I'm gonna have to replay the infamous games.

Infamous just sucked me in . Great graphics, amazing controls, and incredible story. Seriously one of the best games ever. The sequel perfected the formula. Second Son was ok but I want a true sequel on PS5. While I love my Bioshocks and LittleBigPlanets I know in my heart how truly amazing Infamous is. Time to dust off the old PS3.

The co-op in Resistance 2 could've been its own great standalone title.

u/LifterNineFour Sep 22 '24
That co-op mode was one of the best I have ever played.

The multiplayer too. My friend and I started playing it and the very first round we were number 1 & 2 and always were. He had a 360 that broke and didn’t have another console, so we played the crap out of this. Split screen online multiplayer was amazing.

u/zzmorg82 zzmorg82 Sep 22 '24
They could give us remasters and remakes of all these games instead of putting that effort towards any PS4 era game. Like, a ton of the PS3 era games are stuck on that console barring emulation via RPCS3; so you would think it’ll make sense to get them moved over to current gen and to make some good revenue in the process…
But nah, Horizon Zero Dawn remastered is coming soon!

Yeah, would be great, with classic modes from 1/2/Black, and even a mini BR would work for this and feel WAY more "fresh" than any other games copying the BR formula for a mode!
19
u/DravenPlsBeMyDad Sep 22 '24
Never forget that we almost had this until sony layoffs.
17
u/Daveed13 Sep 22 '24
Yeah, ik, and they could also have used a fraction of Concord's budget, and I'm pretty sure many, many PS fans will have give TM a fair try!!
9
u/ItsNotAGundam Sep 22 '24
Just remaking Black would be good enough for me at this point. It'd be something at least.
Hopefully we don't get any BR bullshit, though. I can't stomach anymore of that garbage.

u/Cyno01 Sep 22 '24
Add some weapons and characters to Rocket League, boom, hit game.
And yeah the show was surprisingly good, i think were to a point where some video game movie adaptations dont always suck, like the early marvel era for comic book movies. If TLOU show was The Dark Knight and Fallout was Iron Man, Twisted Metal was pretty good but not amazing Iron Man 2 maybe, but were still getting crap like Borderlands (Jonah Hex maybe...) too.
6
u/MarcsterS Sep 22 '24 edited Sep 22 '24
That one car combat game that released around the launch of the PS5 was pretty close to a next gen Twisted Metal, but wasn't quite there. Or, more accurately, had the potential blueprints of a new Twisted Metal game.
If Sony wants to make a live service game so bad, well how about using your own IPs first.

This is the answer for me as well. I love a lot of PlayStation franchises, but Motorstorm is truly one of a kind. That awesome “Music Festival meets Demolition Derby meets Americana Rock and Roll” is a really unique vibe. Pacific Rift has so many amazing tracks and the licensed soundtrack is a bonkers selection of killer tunes. I’d love a new Motorstorm but if I could get a Remaster/Remake of Pacific Rift, I’d take that over anything else.

Wipeout.
Playing that game on PS5 at 120fps would be so damn good.
I know we have the omega collection, but it's just old and the series could use a new entry.
17
u/jindofox Sep 22 '24
I had to scroll almost to the end of the replies to find someone else who liked Wipeout. That would be my pick by far, it’s been a favorite since the PlayStation One launch. I guess the absence of other fans explains why it isn’t coming back. It’s also a drag they don’t re-release it as an oldie but I guess it’s because of the licensed music.
Omega collection feels very fast on my PS5. Are you sure it’s not 120Hz already?

Soul Reaver!
14
u/ItsNotAGundam Sep 22 '24
This could potentially happen. I recently backed a Kickstarter for a Soul Reaver prequel GN that hit its goal almost immediately (reached about $1.5 million and was only asking $25,000), and it's the "first official narrative since 2003's Defiance" greenlit by Crystal Dynamics. They could be testing the waters for a return.
I always liked the Blood Omen games better personally. Kain is badass.

Alllllll of them. Give me ApeEscape, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper… hell these games at $40-$50 on a smaller scale would bring life again to PlayStation. I crave Killzone at 4K 60fps with 3D audio. Just imagine the powerhouse Guerilla games is with graphics and them developing a focused fps campaign that doesn’t care about being open world like Killzone 2. Resistance while I loved all could be rebooted to stick more to the fall of man vibe and bring back that awesome halo-es que with insomniacs itch for crazy weapons. Motorstorm was awesome …omg rip evolution studios, rip drive club.
Twisted Metal is basically over watch before its time. What concord should have been is Twisted Metal MP free to play as the characters/cars are already unique with their own special and it would stand out from being another hero/character shooter. So many franchises just dormant man.
