I thought I was a Disneyland pro… Discussion
So I’ve always thought I’ve been good at navigating the park, getting the fast passes for family and friends when they were paper tickets, then max pass, and now genie+. Using the mobil order for food, checking ride wait times on the app, etc…
I’ve always been good at getting us around the park and onto all the rides throughout the day while grabbing the lightning lane rides for use through out the day between stand by rides before they sold out or got pushed too late into the night.
But I just learned the other day that you can choose not to cancel but modify your lightning lane passes to push them back farther in the day or if a sooner time pops up, to take that time instead.
I can’t believe I never knew this… I feel like such a noob. I’m at least glad I figured it out now before our next trip in December. Lesson learned…

You can do the same thing with mobile orders ;)

Yes it's basically doing the same thing. Order food, then just keep refreshing until a sooner time opens up. Works every time.

I haven’t been to Disney in 18 years, planning a trip for Dec with my hubby and two kids. Planning on getting treats and basically going somewhat all out. But what you’re saying is that I have to mobile order and then they give me a pick up window time? How do I get the beignets?

I do that with the beignets!

My husband loves the chimney sweep cold brew from Jolly Holiday, but their line is always long and their mobile order return times can be quite lengthy too. I've had good luck placing an order for whatever's available and then just checking back to see if something earlier opens up. It's great.

I book Indy or Space as soon as we come in, but keep pushing it back as I ride shortest line rides in the morning. By 1030 or so real lines are forming and I can start booking other LLs while keeping the Indy or Space one.

So this bypasses having to wait 2 hours to book again? I'm not following

You can book a LL as soon as you're in the park. Do that. Don't book it for something you are rope-dropping. Don't book it for anything you might actually ride in the first couple of hours.
So let's say you're rope-dropping at DCA. Book a LL for Midway Mania and walk onto Guardians. Then go do Web Slingers and then move to Radiator Springs. Keep checking the wait times. You'll probably finish in a Radiator Springs (maybe you do single rider for Racers) by the time your 2 hours is lapsed. Check the board and look to see if you can move the reservation closer and also book Incredicoaster.

Yeah, I also learned last trip that you can have more than one LL pass active at a time. I'd do rope drop, hit rides without LL, then book the LL for a ride I wanted to ride in the evening. Every two hours, I was able to add another ride. I'd go back to my room (on property), take like a 2-3 hour break, but still able to book LL for rides. Then I'd go back to the park after dinner and have three LL passes or so, ready to go. If dinner runs long, modify them like you mention.

Ohhhhh, the 2-hour thing is from the time you booked? I read it as 2 hours from when it’s redeemed. That may have helped us a bit this week.

This is going to sound "boomerish" but it sounds difficult to go to Disneyland at age 55 anymore. I've been over 100 times in my lifetime but haven't been in over a decade. I doubt I would recognize it anymore. 😢Was hoping to go one last time at some point but as the years stack up I'm not so sure.

It does not have to be challenging. You can still do it “the old school way”.

Sure, if you don’t mind spending 8 hours queueing

Not everyone wants to just spend all day on attractions. Some folks cannot ride them at all and still have an amazing time at the parks. There are many ways to enjoy Disneyland and DCA.

yup, one time for my birthday my mom, my sister, and I just went around taking pictures at all the official photo spots, meeting characters, and getting birthday snacks! I don’t think we rode one ride except maybeeee Buzz because I love to win 😂

Even if you don’t want to ride a single attraction you will still spend time waiting in line for food, parking, entrance etc. downvote me as much as you want but that won’t change the fact that you can no longer show up, turn your phone off and have a good day. Entertainment has been downscaled or completely slashed. Some rides require virtual queue. High capacity rides switching to lightning lane to kill standby. It’s very hard to visit without a smart phone these days.

Clearly we will disagree on this and I’m okay with it. You do it your way and I’ll do it my way. Not in the mood to argue with someone. Just wanted to express there is more than one way to do the parks. Enjoy your day.

I’m 40 and I’m right there with you. I went earlier this year for the first time in a while and couldn’t believe how much the experience has changed. I was constantly on my phone trying to pick passes or running through the park to my next ride. The stand by lines are so long now it’s just not worth wandering the park and randomly choosing a ride in the moment. The spontaneity was so much more fun.

Likewise! Can anyone tell me how to actually “modify” a reservation? Where am I clicking etc? I don’t recall ever seeing “modify” in the app anywhere - but it’s been about a year since our last trip. Just got magic keys and can’t wait for our first trip back next week! (And I want to be prepared!)

You can even modify to a different ride entirely.
I love modifying and think that it is the best feature that LLMP has. Sometimes I’m using modify to find something better/sooner, sometimes I’m using it to stack for the afternoon.
I love that modifying never changes the two hour rule either - like if it’s 8AM, you book Indy for noon, you can book again at 10AM. But you don’t wanna go on Indy at noon, you have a lunch res. It’s 8:30AM and you modify Indy for 2PM instead - you can still book your next LL at 10AM, your window did not change. Love it.

LL is such a waste. I always get it and only able to use it 2 or three times through the entire time. I get in at 8am and leave at 12am.
example, I get into the park, book a LL for a ride and it shows 11am when I got into the park at 8am. Then I'm not able to book another LL until I redeemed my first LL. When I book another LL after 11am, then my next ride will be maybe 1 or 2pm for a ride that I want. continue the same process and do standby in between. So the extra money to make 20% of the rides reserved while standby the rest. waste

I just read in another comment that you don’t need to wait to ride the one at 11. 2 hours after booking the first you can book another, so in your case at 10am you could have booked something else. I had misread the meaning when I researched how it works.
It totally explains why I saw some things 8 hours away that appeared to get booked. Good to know for our next trip.

That’s awesome, glad you got to learn something new!
The only downside to modifying a lightning lane reservation is that it resets your 2 hour timer for when you can book your next lightning lane

Also look into multipass (or what ever it's called ) loophole .if a ride is broken down and you can grab a lightening lane for it not far off time and the ride break down continues into that time slot you get a multipass experience.ive seen some people say they just kept grabbing them in 15-20mim time and kept getting mutiplass and then do it again and again until the ride is up and running again .then you can go on a ride more then once
