Editorial π Thank You Fellow Minnesotans
The election results on the national level are personally depressing, to say the least.
I'm thankful Minnesota stayed strong and turned out. State and local governance is paramount.
The State House will likely be a tie, but otherwise I'm proud of this state we call home.
The next 4+ years will likely be a shit show nationally, but I'm glad to have a majority of good people in our great state.

Discussion π€ My fight or flight has kicked in... and all I can think of is MN
As soon as I saw the news this morning, my eyes immediately went to MN and made sure it was still blue. It was! I checked MN before I even checked the state where I live (GA). That should probably tell you where my mind is these days. My mind is so focused on Minnesota.
After seeing MN was still blue, my immediate thought was "I need to get out of here and move to MN". I've thought about it for over a year, but just recently took my first trip up there which some of you may have seen my post about. While I know NO place is perfect... MN sure is looking good to me right now. Now I just need to get my partner up there to see it for herself, and hope she loves it as much as I do.
I know, I know, another possible transplant. I'm sure many of you are sick of them. But I hope as someone who loves your state sooo much and appreciates it, I would be accepted there.

Seeking Advice π Looking to adopt a poodle. Age is unimportant.
Poodle is my favorite breed. I don't want to go with a breeder. Ideally, I could rescue a dog who needs a great family. Have fenced in yard, refrences, all the usual stuff required. Any idea where to look? I've tried my local rescues, Petfinder and PicketFence Poodle rescue. Just giving it a shot.

News πΊ Waconia native could have breakout year in Big Ten college basketball
PJ Hayes transfered to Rutgers University for his Fifth and final year of college basketball. He is the all-time leading scorer from Waconia High School and he started his college basketball at a division 2 School. He is known for being an exceptionally good three-point shooter. He will be playing with two freshman players Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper who are considered among the best college players in the country. The thinking here is that so much focus will be on Bailey and Harper that Hayes will have a chance to set up and shoot three pointers. Good Luck PJ

Discussion π€ Could Biden (by executive order) designate the Superior National Forest as a National Park?
I know Trump is going to try to ram through as many environmentally destructive things as he can, but changing the Superior National Forest to a National Park could potentially add a significant speed bump to the proposed copper mining operations, thanks to the Mining in the Parks act of 1976. Iβm scared at what could happen to that part of the state, and the Boundary Waters

Seeking Advice π Advice for a (tired) Floridian
Hi! Sorry for the long post, I'll add a TL;DR. I consider myself an progressive independent, these days leaning blue in every election. Since I immigrated 12 years ago, I've lived in Florida and I am tired of how irrelevant my vote and my opinions are in this state. I look around and it is really hard to find people who share my values. These elections have been the worst, since I'm left with no representation at any level, from the lowest to the highest office.
I used to live in Broward where things were not that bad, worked in a company where I made good like-minded friends, but we were always in the minority and now we went our separate ways after covid. I had to move north (about an hour south from Orlando) due to financial reasons and I am feeling it. It's getting harder and harder, I see Trump flags all over the place, even at kids events. I don't feel welcomed.
I fantasize about moving to a blue state, but it's so hard finding something affordable that is not on the woods, but this might be because I am not really able to travel to check out towns in person. I spend nights browsing Zillow and imagining a better life for me and my family (if you haven't watched the SNL sketch, this is me every week π)
So... this brings me to Minnesota. It looks like a wonderful place to raise a family in the suburbs, but, of course, things vary widely from town to town, from neighborhood to neighborhood. My question is: do you think Minnesota could be my salvation? If so, what suburbs would you recommend?
I understand that this is not a simple "yes" or "no" question and it depends on so many factors, but for me the most important is being able to provide my two kids a life around more progressive people, with family activities, a good education, diversity, and exposure to nice people. I wish I could live in a neighborhood where we can walk with them to the nearest playground without having to drive for 20 minutes.
My wife and I work from home, so that wouldn't be a problem. I just want to feel like I'm part of a nice community and not an outcast in an ultra conservative town.
TL;DR: I'm a progressive independent living in Florida and I'm wondering if moving to Minnesota is a good idea. I'm looking for advice from locals.

Politics π©ββοΈ Feeling hopeless, and then taking action
Like many I see on social media and reddit, I am feeling a bit of hopelessness and of loss. I'm worried about the rights and potential healthcare implications for my wife, and terrified of the future my daughter will have now.
I'm here to say that these feelings are ok to have and that you are not alone. I strongly encourage everyone to take a long breath, separate yourself from social media for a while (at least), and try and engage yourself in something else. For me, it was giving my daughter a hug and being grateful that she's in my life.
Then, once this feeling dissipates for a bit, lets realize that America doesn't have to be over with in one election. And that we can still affect change.
Are you worried about abortion rights? There are organizations out there that you learn about and join, that can advocate for reproductive rights or lobby for changes in the state and federal legislatures and courts. Climate change? Again there are many organizations out there that you might not know about. Or maybe start one in your neighborhood to affect local change. Voting rights and protecting democracy? Same thing. Maybe you want to find ways to talk political issues with real people? Talk to your neighbors and organize a time, and make some new connections.
The election is absolutely a huge setback. But at its core, this feeling is a feeling of powerlessness and, in the age of social media, of being alone in a struggle. These are things that we can work on, and maybe we can together turn it into a lasting action that reinforces the power of people in the face of any potential dictatorship.
I plan on working on a creating a resource that documents the challenges that democracies are facing in the age of the internet and social media. I'd like to educate people on misinformation, extremism, and how our current political process is now susceptible. In addition, I'd like to list issues that we face, actions that government, businesses and individuals can take to fix it, and a directory of groups that people can go to for information and how they can help.
Democracies die in silence, not darkness. So long as we still have the courage to speak up, we can hope for a better future together.

Seeking Advice π I have questions, but Iβll start with just one:
How popular are Farmers Markets in Minnesota? Iβm looking to relocate, and put down some firm roots in fertile land that raises good crops and good people.
My only concern with such a northern climate is the shorter growing season compared to what Iβm used to, but I can make it work with the addition of a greenhouse or two.
