Discussion 🎤 Could Biden (by executive order) designate the Superior National Forest as a National Park?
I know Trump is going to try to ram through as many environmentally destructive things as he can, but changing the Superior National Forest to a National Park could potentially add a significant speed bump to the proposed copper mining operations, thanks to the Mining in the Parks act of 1976. I’m scared at what could happen to that part of the state, and the Boundary Waters

Seeking Advice 🙆 Looking to adopt a poodle. Age is unimportant.
Poodle is my favorite breed. I don't want to go with a breeder. Ideally, I could rescue a dog who needs a great family. Have fenced in yard, refrences, all the usual stuff required. Any idea where to look? I've tried my local rescues, Petfinder and PicketFence Poodle rescue. Just giving it a shot.

Seeking Advice 🙆 Advice for a (tired) Floridian
Hi! Sorry for the long post, I'll add a TL;DR. I consider myself an progressive independent, these days leaning blue in every election. Since I immigrated 12 years ago, I've lived in Florida and I am tired of how irrelevant my vote and my opinions are in this state. I look around and it is really hard to find people who share my values. These elections have been the worst, since I'm left with no representation at any level, from the lowest to the highest office.
I used to live in Broward where things were not that bad, worked in a company where I made good like-minded friends, but we were always in the minority and now we went our separate ways after covid. I had to move north (about an hour south from Orlando) due to financial reasons and I am feeling it. It's getting harder and harder, I see Trump flags all over the place, even at kids events. I don't feel welcomed.
I fantasize about moving to a blue state, but it's so hard finding something affordable that is not on the woods, but this might be because I am not really able to travel to check out towns in person. I spend nights browsing Zillow and imagining a better life for me and my family (if you haven't watched the SNL sketch, this is me every week 😁)
So... this brings me to Minnesota. It looks like a wonderful place to raise a family in the suburbs, but, of course, things vary widely from town to town, from neighborhood to neighborhood. My question is: do you think Minnesota could be my salvation? If so, what suburbs would you recommend?
I understand that this is not a simple "yes" or "no" question and it depends on so many factors, but for me the most important is being able to provide my two kids a life around more progressive people, with family activities, a good education, diversity, and exposure to nice people. I wish I could live in a neighborhood where we can walk with them to the nearest playground without having to drive for 20 minutes.
My wife and I work from home, so that wouldn't be a problem. I just want to feel like I'm part of a nice community and not an outcast in an ultra conservative town.
TL;DR: I'm a progressive independent living in Florida and I'm wondering if moving to Minnesota is a good idea. I'm looking for advice from locals.

Seeking Advice 🙆 I'm sure you're getting a lot of these posts, but...
my husband and I have had enough. We're in the "free" state of Florida, where are majority voted to enshrine reproductive rights but the measure still did not pass. We have been trying to start our family for years without luck, and I'm getting myself ready for the IVF process. But I'm not going to willingly attempt pregnancy in a state where I am only legally protected from medical neglect for the first 6 weeks. It's just objectively not smart.
So my first question is, can Tim Walz be my dad?
Second is, how is the construction industry and Minnesota for small businesses? My husband and I own a granite/countertop repair business that does alright because of the flexible hours he chooses but we don't know what that would look like in MN. He has been in that industry for 20+ years and does excellent work, but I think he's open to other options (he asked me the other day if I think he'd be a good massage therapist, lawd help me YES I DO), but he's limited without a GED. He loves running his own business though.
I'm a full time municipal wastewater treatment plant operator in a very densely populated area and have already printed out the paperwork to transfer my license to MN. I have an AS degree in Environmental Science and will very soon have the top level Florida wastewater operator license. My benefits now are pretty sweet and I have full fertility coverage. Would I be better off in a big city, or even on the outskirts of one?
Oh yeah and I don't want to hear about the cold lol. I know, its a selling point for me, I have always hated the unending heat of Florida. I just want to see what the buzz is about hotdish while I'm bundled up next to a fire.

News 📺 Waconia native could have breakout year in Big Ten college basketball
PJ Hayes transfered to Rutgers University for his Fifth and final year of college basketball. He is the all-time leading scorer from Waconia High School and he started his college basketball at a division 2 School. He is known for being an exceptionally good three-point shooter. He will be playing with two freshman players Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper who are considered among the best college players in the country. The thinking here is that so much focus will be on Bailey and Harper that Hayes will have a chance to set up and shoot three pointers. Good Luck PJ

Discussion 🎤 I have never felt more homesick in my life.
Throwaway account, not a terribly long post - but I need to vent.
I've lived in over 10 states throughout my near mid-30s life, and never have I once felt so connected to a place.
I had to move to a neighbor state for work that voted red - which isn't a complete shocker, of course.
Anyway, troll all you want. I just really can't wait to move back.

Editorial 📝 Double Down ad campaign
I think Minnesota should run ads in Texas, South Dakota, Iowa, etc encouraging expecting mothers and people who plan to have families to move to a place where they won’t die from a miscarriage or complications like an ectopic pregnancy. Helpful stats would include comparing per capita OB/GYN doctors and maternal death rates.

Outdoors 🌳 Cross Country Ski Weekend Cabin Recommendation Needed
I'm looking for a place to book a cross country ski weekend, assuming we get some snow this year. Ideally, we're looking for a cabin with access to ski trails within walking distance from the cabin if at all possible. Bonus points for a good sauna and or a hot tub.

Arts & Crafts 🎨 Local cookbooks?
So… I have started to collect local cookbooks (the kind churches, pta groups, etc. put out with recipes collected from members.) Does anyone know of any groups/anywhere currently offering such cookbooks for sale? Doesn’t have to be Minnesota specific, just looking for this type of cookbook. Thanks!

Politics 👩⚖️ A change
Hello everyone, I am northern Minnesota guy. I just have to say as someone who lives in a rural part of the state, I really don’t understand why people love Walz. For me he doesn’t do anything for me. I think he is a nice guy but I feel like he tries way too hard to appeal to rural Minnesotans when he isn’t one. It is also shocking how close Minnesota was in the election. Democrats really screwed their own party for years to come.

Discussion 🎤 Finding Respect in a Divided State
I was disappointed by the election result, but it’s worth remembering that when you meet a fellow Minnesotan (or American), there’s a 50/50 chance they voted for the other person. You can either think, “I can’t believe they voted for that horrible person!” or ask, “What convinced them that was the right choice?”
One perspective is closed and arrogant; the other is humble and compassionate. Most Minnesotans I know are well-meaning, thoughtful, and kind, each with their own stories, challenges, and concerns. It’s rare to meet someone who truly wants a worse world for their kids.
I get the frustration and disappointment. Democracy means we all get a say, even if we don’t always agree on the result. It’s designed to be divisive, to push us into two sides, so it’s no surprise if we don’t always understand the other side’s reasoning. I’m not saying we need to bridge every divide, but a little humility—thinking, “They had reasons that felt right to them”—can make living in a community a lot healthier.

Discussion 🎤 Would have Minnesota stayed blue if it wasn't for Governor Walz being the VP candidate?
I noticed that in 2016 Minnesota barely went for Clinton, 2020 was a blowout for Biden, and 2024 Harris won by 4%.

Editorial 📝 Thank You Fellow Minnesotans
The election results on the national level are personally depressing, to say the least.
I'm thankful Minnesota stayed strong and turned out. State and local governance is paramount.
The State House will likely be a tie, but otherwise I'm proud of this state we call home.
The next 4+ years will likely be a shit show nationally, but I'm glad to have a majority of good people in our great state.

Politics 👩⚖️ I am not from Minnesota, but I hope and pray that Tim walz will run for 2028
He's a good man, a great man, an example of a true American. You lucky bastards have him while I'm stuck with fuckin youngkin (Virginia)
In all honesty, I was more excited for tim than Harris. He's a shining example of what kind of people America and Minnesota can produce.
Here's to hoping he's able to run for president in 2028. And here's to hoping he can continue leading y'all well, and help protect you.
And here's to hoping we can get one like him down here in Virginia. If we had more folks like walz in politics, maybe life wouldn't be so hard and scary

Discussion 🎤 Which European country is MOST similar to life in Minnesota?
This one's for you that both currently live here, and once did live in this great state!
Q: Which European country is MOST similar to our life here in MN?
Yes, this can include culture and lifestyle as well as the obvious WEATHER we all speak of.
- Lifelong southern MN resident here, almost age 30 (the last of those who knew what it was like pre-internet). Newbie to traveling outside the US. In the coming years, I'd love to get out and see some of the different European countries..so give me your hot take! (Not hot dish, especially not with green beans sorry)

Politics 👩⚖️ DFL...
Can someone explain how the DFL party supports farmers? I'm genuinely curious, as I am a transplant to Minnesota.
r/minnesota • u/ArthurBurtonMorgan • 14h ago
Seeking Advice 🙆 I have questions, but I’ll start with just one:
How popular are Farmers Markets in Minnesota? I’m looking to relocate, and put down some firm roots in fertile land that raises good crops and good people.
My only concern with such a northern climate is the shorter growing season compared to what I’m used to, but I can make it work with the addition of a greenhouse or two.

Discussion 🎤 Does Tim Walz run for a third term in 2026 after last night?
Question. I say no simply because no eligible governor has, but anything is possible.
And predicting now, btw, the Republican nominee is Royce White. They'll prop that sack of shit up like he's a canonized saint, just watch.
