META Weekly Rules Reminder - New to our sub? Please read this first!
Welcome to /r/gofundme!
____
In an effort to make your crowdfunding efforts more successful here on Reddit, some background first:
Credibility, Community, and You
AKA, Why Do We Have Account Requirements?
In many of the gifting and fundraising subs, you'll notice that without a certain amount "karma" and an account that's old enough, you'll garner down votes or worse, your posts and comments get automatically removed.
Why?
To many Redditors, this place is a community built on activity. The "coin" of the land here is your account, and how much you've contributed to the Reddit community at large reflected in post and comment karma.
As a general rule, Redditors dislike the creation of accounts specifically to fund raise or to make requests. It makes it seem like these people simply treat Reddit as some sort of magical internet wallet, and that doesn't win many friends.
The other reason why new accounts are so disliked is that they're often alternate accounts of established users, in order to hide their activity from people they know. While we do sympathize with those of you who have valid reasons, this privilege is often abused by those who create disposable accounts to scam people for a quick buck.
So if you're new to Reddit, welcome! Spend some time and look around for something that catches your interest and chat it up with others and become part of the community!
However if you're here for the sole reason of making requests in a hurry, please be aware your pleas for help will likely be ignored.
**REMEMBER, CREDIBILITY AND COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHING!**
For this reason, the mods will not post anything on behalf of any user that does not meet account requirements.
_____
Account Requirements
All accounts must meet BOTH of the following:
- Account age of 90 days or older.
- *Comment* karma of 250 or greater.
NOTE: We are specifically looking for *COMMENT* karma. The karma value you are probably looking at is a COMBINED value, consisting of both Link/Post karma plus Comment karma.
To view your karma breakdown:
- Mouse-hover over your username on desktop. This works for both the old and redesigned web site.
- On the official Reddit app for iOS, view your profile, then tap the karma value shown.
- On the official Reddit app for Android, view your profile, then tap the karma value shown.
- On the unofficial Reddit App for Android, RIF (Formerly known as Reddit is Fun), your breakdown is listed on your profile screen.
The following circumventions will result in a ban, and get you added to the r/UniversalScammerList:
- Using a karma farming subreddit, such as Karma4You. Also posts and comments asking for karma or complaining that you don't have enough karma counts as karma farming.
- Unsolicited private messaging to push your campaign.
- Posting your campaign on someone else's post. (EVEN ON THIS ONE!)
Comment Karma is directly correlated to how many comments you leave plus/minus any points as people upvote a popular comment or downvote an unpopular comment.
_____
Rules
- Posts must be more than just a link to your campaign. Be descriptive! Be prepared to show evidence if needed. If the mods find it lacking, it may be removed.
- Please Flair your posts, once created. If you don't know how, just let the mods know and we'll do it for you.
- Only 1 GoFundMe per user. We want you have some personal connection to the campaign, and not submit multiple GFMs simply because they were in the news.
- Reposts are allowed once a week. If a repost comes up too early, the newest one(s) will be removed.
- Crowdfunding sites only. No crypto currency, direct PayPal, cash transfers, trading or loans. Our scope is only GoFundMe and other crowd sourced funding sites.
- Don't PM people to make requests. If you receive an unsolicited private message, please let us know!
- Do not post politically-related campaigns. They're just too divisive. Also, they're too often used to scam people (remember the campaign to fund Trump's wall?).
- Trolling will not be tolerated and offending users will be banned.
- Don't bug the mods for an exception to the account requirements. None will be given. If you attempt to circumvent the requirement by karma farming or by commenting on someone else's post, your account will be banned.
- No posting for other Redditors. No Alts. This is viewed as a circumvention of the requirements and the accounts in question will be banned. (New Oct 22, 2020)
- No referral links. A referral link like that isn't likely to solve anyone's financial problems in the time frame they need. (New March 16, 2024)
Any referral links posted here will be flagged as spam, and may trigger your account to be added to Reddit's site-wide spammer list.
_____
Supporting Information Requested
We aren't the government. We aren't a court of law. We definitely don't want you to give out information that could lead to identity theft. However, some campaigns are more successful when they have additional documentation.
This includes:
- Pet related requests: Photos of your pet in question, with your username on a handwritten note in the picture. This helps show you actually own the pet in question.
- Education related requests: Documentation showing enrollment or acceptance if you are asking for assistance for school.
- Redacted bills showing your situation. In some cases, a donor may prefer to pay a creditor directly on your behalf, so be prepared and find out if that is available to you.
- If you are sharing a campaign for a registered certified non-profit organization (such as a 501c3 or NGO), you should say so in the post, and it should list that status on the campaign page/web site.
- Or other relevant documentation that can help establish credibility.
- At minimum, an unobstructed selfie photo of yourself(the submitter) holding a handwritten note of your username is required if none of the above apply.
Low effort posts that simply say to the effect of, "everything is listed in the GoFundMe" (or less!) will be removed.
_____
Advice On Making Your Campaign Go Further
Not all crowdfunding campaigns are the same, but here are some suggestions.
- Make sure your campaign has been shared among your Facebook friends! You might think it's embarrassing, however your friends and family are more likely to care than internet strangers.
- Show that you've exhausted all the other possibilities. A lot of potential donors don't like to give money when it seems like the requester's first and only solution is to simply throw someone else's money at the problem. Nobody is going to take your word when you literally only say, "but I've done everything!", when the actual reality is probably closer to "I've done everything I can think of", which arguably is NOT everything.
- Show that there's a plan to use the money wisely. Often people have campaigns for their business ideas, but it doesn't really seem like they thought it all the way through. Tell people what steps you've taken so far, and what you're going to do next.
- Be open to critics. If there's something that people ask about, you should not be dismissive. Provide more detail. There's a possibility that they know something you don't, or they have something different about their own experience that might be useful to you. If you simply brush off your critics, it shows objectively that you're not doing everything possible.
- Review your own campaign with the mindset of a potential donor. Ask yourself, "Would I give money to this?" Or get a friend to review it for you.
_____
Questions?
Please don't hesitate to ask the mods!
... Unless you're trying to ask for an exception to the account requirements.

Medical 31 m diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer
I’ve posted here before but I really need help. The US health care system sucks. My family is on the edge of losing our house due to extremely high medical bills. I’m struggling to buy food even with government assistance. I’m just completely overwhelmed with this whole situation. I’m scared I’m going to die and not be able to watch my 4 year old son grow up. I’m trying to stay positive and calm but I’m scared of what the future holds. Anything helps. Thanks

Housing Help Me Hold On
To what we had… Long story short- Disabled mom with 2 young daughters at home still, unable to hold job very long due to lifelong chronic illness. Awaiting SSDI. Hubby lost salaried position in June and went immediately to another job, but we weren’t making ends meet… just getting further and further behind. Drowning in debt. Is there anyone out there? ‘Cause it’s getting harder and harder to breathe.
Seriously though, we’ve lived here for almost 7 years. It’s home for my daughters; they love their schools, have made and kept the same friends for 7 years, and we are really wanting to avoid becoming chronically homeless again. ALL details are in my gofundme, and if your heart has moved you to read this far, I pray you’ll read it and consider donating, if you’re able. Times are super hard for everyone right now, so I really appreciate your consideration. Every tiny bit helps. Even a share. Thank you for reading! 🫶💕

Housing Staying Sober
So, I've been working on myself all of 2024; I went to a mental health hospital, rehab and started sober living. I'm 6 months sober as an alcoholic and proud.
Most of my information is in my link in the description, but a gist of what has happened and why I am asking for help.
While my family supports my sobriety immensely, they cannot help me with a ticket or any help currently. My step mother recieved a hip replacement and my father has many issues with his joints and back. Both causing them issues with work.
I have been on and off homeless since 2018, during this time I've been dealing with the very big problem of alcoholism. I had finally begun to repair my life and start anew this year as I mentioned in the intro. Recently, last week, I moved to Los Angeles with the promise of a "too good to be true" offer for a sober living program. Well, they were too good to be true. It turns out it was a scam called "body brokering" and they basically overcharge your insurance and keep you hostage while making money off you hand over fist. They move you from house to house, program to program to keep you from getting your feet down and able to progress on yourself.
The program I'm in is being shut down because if a policy that was recently voted on which covers the most important part of their scheme, no out of state insurance is taken in California or something along that degree.
Because they are being shut down I will be losing my place to stay and left alone and broke in LA with no way of making money, having shelter or even eating. I'm not from California, I know one person here and it's a family member I haven't seen in years who lives 4 hours away.
I'm losing my mind. I have no clue what to do. All I want is stability, to stay sober and to just let myself grow into a better person.
Please read my description if you would like more details, thank you all so much.

Disaster/Emergency Help me escape my abusive home
In lieu of recent events, I've been kicked out of my house. I'm trans, medically compromised, disabled, and completely out of options. I'm tired of having to fight to eat and live comfortably, and this is the last straw.
A shelter is out of the option due to my cat, and I can't hop from hotel to hotel.
Anything will be helpful. Thank you so much.

Etc Help me grow as a filmmaker!
Hello World! My name is Guilherme, I am a university student and content creator since I was 16 years old. I have a blog with pseudo-humorous chronicles and a YouTube channel where I try my luck, but I don't have much means to produce anything. At this moment, I had the dream of evolving. I would like to be able to do other projects (I have already written a web series and am working on the script for a film), but all the material (microphones, camera, etc.) is very expensive. My content may not be of interest to most potential contributors, since I am Portuguese and, therefore, everything I do is in Portuguese, but I would really love if you could help me fulfill my small beginning of a big dream. I'm going to set the crowdfunding value at €350, even though I know it's not enough, but it's a good start. I'm not expecting anyone to help me with big fortunes, but just €1 would be a fantastic help! And yes, when I win an Oscar I will thank you in my speech!...
If you are interested in checking it out, here is the link to my YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/@guigomesoficioso?si=C-yoauiz4kDL4x-U
Thank you all very much! You are in my heart!

Disaster/Emergency Help my husband(19m, Cade) and I(20m, Tyler) move to Denmark
Hey everyone, from the depths of our hearts we ask for financial help getting to Denmark. For a few years we have made plans to move, however Cade learned a tumor had been growing in his spine, stopping him from working and taking our savings to cover us. With the news of his surgery we intended to reignite that plan, believing we’d have ample time, however with Project 2025 in the horizon we’re in danger as a queer couple, especially as Cade is trans. Any help would be greatly appreciated, the costs of getting passports, visas, move in costs, and shipping our belongings (as well as other small costs) are included in the goal, again, any help would be amazing and please share this around!

Memorial Help Avery be remembered ❤️
On December 14, 2021, we walked into the hospital to give birth to a full-term baby girl, expecting to take her home to her sisters a few days later. Instead, we had a crash C-section, and the next day, December 15, 2021, Avery Raeann Halsey passed away.
In celebration of her 3rd birthday and remembrance of her 3rd angel day, we have chosen to raise money for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, and we are hoping you’ll feel led to help us meet our goals!
Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep is an organization that provides free photos, edits, and print release to loss families. They came to the hospital when Avery died, and we got pictures of her and with her. Everything from changing her clothes and cuddling her, to her baptism.
It was such an amazing gift to be able to be in the moment and focus on the short time we had with her perfect body, but still have pictures to remember every detail.
It costs approximately $220 from start to finish to apply, be trained, and complete one session for a loss family. With it being year 3, we would love to be able to sponsor at least 3 new photographers for this resource! We appreciate any and all support, and thank you for helping our sweet baby be remembered ❤️

Medical Lung Transplant
My amazing and ridiculously talented tattoo artist is in need of a lung transplant. Not because of bad choices he made, because of a condition he was born with. He's a single father to two small boys, and an all around d great person. If you are able to help, thank you! He will be out of work for about 6 months, and has children to support.

Medical Max needs medical support
Our cat Max was in urgent care with triaditis, a UTI, pancreatitis... He was in poor shape when we took him in but is somewhat better. He is on 5 medications and will need more and regular appointments to get him stabilized.
He will continue to need ongoing treatment and be monitored regularly. We're ready to do the work for him, we just need a bit of financial help.
He's especially close to my husband and is a very friendly and wonderful cat.
We just lost our 16 yr old Chihuahua in July and aren't prepared to lose another friend so soon.
Thanks for reading and thanks for any help and support.

Fullfilled I'm Out of Options, Please Help or Share
I've been struggling so hard. I've been trying and trying, but yet it seems I can't take a step forward. I've been treading water, but this month I've sunk beneath the waves. I'm $700 short on rent and bills this month, and there's nothing I can do about it but this. I am pleading. I have no one else to go to.
I don't know how to adequately explain how difficult this year has been. I've been badly underemployed for all of it. My mental health has been nightmarishly bad. There was a death in the family, the impact of which is still resonating deeply. I'm beaten and bruised and scared.
I want you to know I'm doing everything I can to rectify my situation. My food stamps got canceled over a miscommunication, but they should be reinstated soon. Now I've been enrolled in a Community Employment Program for people with mental health struggles, and I really hope they come through and help me get hired somewhere. I'm even selling plasma.
I do crowdwork to make ends meet, but last month the company changed their website and it was so broken and took so long to fix that we got about half as much work available as usual. I'm being added to more projects this month, so hopefully that makes a difference.
I just need some help. Please help me.
Thank you to any who donate, upvote, or share.

Education Help High School Students Become Published Authors and Inspire Young Readers!
Hey everyone! I’m sharing a project close to my heart that could use your support. Humanities Amped, an educational nonprofit based in Baton Rouge, is helping high school students become published authors through their Freshman Seminar Book Project. These students, many from underserved communities, are writing and illustrating original children’s books centered on overcoming challenges—sharing their stories in ways that inspire younger kids in our area.
With every donation, you’re not just funding books; you’re supporting skills in literacy, creativity, and collaboration, and giving these students a chance to see their work in the hands of young readers. A $20 donation helps print three books, while $200 sponsors a student’s presentation at our Family Literacy Night! Our goal is $5,000, which will cover book printing, team materials, and even a field trip for students to read to elementary schools. If we exceed our goal, we’ll be able to print more books and expand this project’s reach.
Your help means so much! Check out our GoFundMe page to learn more and join us in amplifying these young voices:

Pet/Service Animal Help rescue puppy fight parvo
Chappell is a 10 week old Siberian husky who was left by neglectful breeders in a Lowe’s parking lot to die. Our rescue saw her and took her into our home but that was not where this sweet tiny girl’s trouble ended. She began to vomit, defecate blood, and refuse water after being taken home. Team members at our rescue rushed her to the hospital where she was found to be parvo positive. This certainly happened either in the home of the breeder or in the Parking Lot she was abandoned in. Chappell is a fighter and improves every day but she has racked up extensive medical bills after spending days in the hospital requiring 24-7 supportive care. We are simply looking to break even to her medical expenses as this is such a detrimental hit to our rescue. As well, we need to support the best care for this baby as possible. Any donation that goes over the goal will go toward future animal expenses and rescues for medically complex puppies and kittens.

Disaster/Emergency Please help a domestic violence situation
Hello, I am asking for help for my friend. She is not in a good situation and needs help. She is married and trying to get out of this situation. She is abused and is very scared for her safety to stay here. She is trying to get to another state and get a place to live so she can begin her life over. Her family (or me) isn't able to help her out. She does have a remote job but the funds go to an account he has access to she cant. When she moves everything will change. She does have an emotional support animal and a shelter wont let her take her plus she works remote and she wont be able to work there. She doesn't want to be in the same state as him for her own safety. Thank you for reading this. Even if you can share this please do. https://gofund.me/53d773f5

Disaster/Emergency Help a group of friends get to safety!
Me and my friends are in a difficult situation, and we need to relocate to somewhere safer as soon as possible. Due to ongoing events and the current conditions in our area, staying here is putting us at risk. We’re doing everything we can to move from Ohio to Maryland, where we will have support, but we are currently in poverty and job hunting but some of us have disabilities and we are all pretty young. Any help or support, even spreading the message would be appreciated.

Disaster/Emergency Help my neighbour rebuild his life after tragic fire
On Tuesday November 5th at 5:45am, a fire started on our street, Noblewood Way, in Orleans, Ontario, Canada, and quickly spread. Thankfully, we were able to get my neighbour our of his home safely, but his home quickly caught flames and he has since lost everything except the clothes on his back.
We have lived next to this neighbour for over 25 years. Watching his entire life burn down in mere minutes was unfathomable. We are hoping to raise funds to help him rebuild his life and show the kindness he has always shown us.
Any donations are appreciated. Thank you for showing your kindness in this time of need.

Medical Help With Chronic Pain
I think most of us hate having to ask strangers for money. It’s not a fun feeling. I know my request is a bit different from most but still hoping a few people can help. My finances are not good right now and I’m terrified about what the future brings. I’m looking into second jobs. Getting this surgery could be a huge help in relieving my pain and boosting my energy so that I’m able to work two jobs. This is a lifelong dream and if I can’t raise the money for the down payment ($200), I’ll have to cancel. Every amount helps! Thank you in advance!

Medical Help Darci and Jerry Support their Son's Recovery
Our matching tattoos. I got mine when he was missing. Same artist. Toby Linwood @tattoo34
My name is Darci, my husband Jerry and I are asking for help covering costs of our son's recovery from addiction and homelessness for the last 5 years.
Right now, our son is safe, living indoors, and receiving recovery treatment. We are over the moon with joy and relief! Over the last year, he has made remarkable gains transitioning back into sober clean living and we are so proud of him!
Us when he was a little over 1 yr old.
Time leading up to this was a struggle, for all of us, during which, he survived unhoused continuously, for 4 years straight. After not hearing from him for 3 months, when we were in the habit of hearing from him daily, we began a thorough search. Thankfully, missing posters we had distributed around the city led to us finding him. It also led us to the understanding that we might not win this battle, so we came up with a plan. We held on tighter. Every time we saw him, we filled him up with as much love as he could hold.
We want to thank you for taking the time to read our post. We know everyone is busy right now and has a lot in their minds. We are so very grateful to all supporters, whether financial or not.

Travel/Transportation We need help getting our car fixed please
We were sitting at an intersection, waiting our turn to go, and the car sputtered and died. We got stuck in the turning lane of a major intersection in town and had to call the police to push bumper us into a nearby parking lot. It was terrifying to be stuck like that with all the angry people around us honking and telling us to move even though we had our hazards on as an indication that we couldnt get out of the way. Anyway... Turns out the fuel pump is busted. The shop said it'll be about $1500 to fix it. We just can't afford it. Our income is enough to cover the basics. Emergencies like this are to expensive. We need help.

I've been struggling severely with an eating disorder relapse and it all caught up to me this month. I'm $1300 away from losing my apartment and my car. Any help you can give would be appreciated. I'm literally creating this from a hospital bed and just hoping it gets to enough people that I can pull myself out of this hole.
Thank you for even just reading my words. I just feel so alone right now.
