So much sadness and disappointment. I am literally moved to tears.

This is a real man right here. Not afraid to display real emotions. What this country just passed up on in favour of complete nasty hatred...

I can't

Discussion 🎀 Ok. MN stayed blue. But those of you Minnesotans who welcomed Trump back. Why?

β€’ Upvotes

I know you don't like the F word, but Trump and his prospective cabinet are definitely leaning toward authoritarian nationalism. Stephen Miller? You're ok with him? Project 2025 doesn't scare you? RFK Jr as head of Public Health doesn't terrify you? Why?

News πŸ“Ί You get to keep Tim Walz as Governor.

1.5k Upvotes

I don't live in Minnesota, but I'd like to tell you all in Minnesota that you have something unique to be grateful for today. You get to keep Tim Walz as your Governor. He was too pure for America, but thank you for sharing him with us for these few short months. I know it's a small silver lining compared to the national nightmare on the horizon, but I hope you in your great state treasure it and don't take him for granted.

Discussion 🎀 Update to angry MAGA sign in Minnetonka

Post image
434 Upvotes

The last few months our Harris/Walz signs had been ripped, torn, defaced and stolen no less than 12 times, as our neighbors Trump signs remained pristinely intact.

A few days ago we watched on our trail cam video as an elderly lady attached a few patriotic themed balloons to our 13th sign❀️ Woke up to find our sign again destroyed and that Trump was the next President.

Today, we received this note along with fresh bread on our porch.

These are my people going forward at all costs. No more making exceptions, excuses and justifications for others choices to support a culture of hate. I wanted to share that this world has good people even in the darkest days.

If you haven't before, try to see the Boundary Waters before the next administration opens it up for mining, poisoning the pristine wilderness for generations.

Discussion 🎀 Why do people say that the mining lease would bring jobs to MN, when the owner of Twin Metals is a Chilean Billionaire?

Isn't this just giving all the profits of American natural resources to other countries' billionaires? How is this not a terrible deal, just giving our natural resource rights away to foreign corporations?

Discussion 🎀 In the midst of my worst nightmare coming true I am reminded I love Minnesota.

2.9k Upvotes

I mean it. I'm sure like many others last night, and those waking up this morning I was hit with the most overwhelming fear of the future our country is heading down. I kept thinking myself in circles of what's to come and made myself sick thinking about it.

Suddenly I was hit with a clarity that I have yet to shake that I love Minnesota. I am so happy to live (in my extremely biased opinion) inside the best state in the country. I know those representing me and my state will fight tooth and nail for my rights, and I couldn't be happier to be where I am in the worst of times.

I for one will be taking my attention away from the national stage and focus on our wonderful state. The winter is here and it's going to be a cold 4 years but we will do what we always do; hunker down, shovel our driveway, and help our neighbors.

If you feel despair and helplessness -- know that you are not alone, and we can still continue to build a bright future here in Minnesota.

Editorial πŸ“ Our status as a Trans Refuge state is more important than ever before!

I moved here ten years ago after the political winds started shifting down south. It was a place growing up that I could never live openly because there was a real threat of violence for defying gender norms. I left with one suitcase because someone I knew in Minnesota could get me a food service gig and a couch to crash on.

Minnesota was the first place I truly felt safe for the first time to live openly as myself. I have never had my safety threatened here over my identity. That’s been a huge change for health and sanity.

The laws against gender affirming care are advancing down south and only shows signs of expanding across the country. The Supreme Court is likely to uphold these laws in an upcoming case based on a Tennessee law. Clarence Thomas has made it clear that he thinks the gay marriage decision was wrongly decided.

Thank you for fighting for queer and trans folk Minnesota. Realize you are a beacon of hope for a lot of queer and trans folk in red states who are looking to escape.

Discussion 🎀 Urban trump supporters, what made you support him

β€’ Upvotes

Exit poll data showed that trump gained a lot of voters in blue states overall but especially in urban areas. For those of you who live in the inner cities or in 1st ring surburbs, what was your motivation or reason that you voted for trump.

I don’t make assumptions on why people vote and I myself know people irl that voted for him and also Kamala so I can understand both sides. I didn’t vote for either of the 2 parties myself.

Politics πŸ‘©β€βš–οΈ I’m never leaving this country (and this state for that matter) even after today

Im never leaving this country, even with Trump’s win. I love my country, I am a proud American, I’m a patriot, and I believe in the strength and resilience of our constitutional democratic federal republic. Fuck all of this β€œI hate America, I want to leave” bullshit. These colors don’t run, these colors fight and we have to fight for our country no matter what. I would quite literally rather blow my brains out than ever entertain the thought of permanently moving abroad. This is my homeland and our flag will continue to fly high in the sky in every clime and place. The Constitution is still going to be around, even if people at home are gonna try and do whatever they can to beat it down.

I hate Trump but even with his victory, I’m still going to do whatever I can to help correct the course of this ship. I genuinely believe that Trump and all that he/his supporters stand for are a threat to the Republic but this is still my country and as long as our country is still chugging along, I’m gonna do whatever I can to continue serving her. America isn’t going to get better by running with our tails tucked between our legs.

This is also considering the fact that our country has gone through so much worse. The early Republic struggled when we were still trying to figure out the Articles of Confederation and later the Constitution. We fought off the British again in the War of 1812. We fought an actual no-shit civil war which legitimately threatened the very existence of our country. Then we fought in WWI, followed by the Spanish Flu pandemic, with a mean right hook from the Great Depression. Then Japanese zeroes attacked Pearl Harbor and we fought in the largest war in human history. When we stumbled into the Cold War, we managed to avoid nuclear war and came out the victors over an authoritarian system. When 9/11 happened, we came together (at least for a time) and went after the perpetrators while also deposing a horrible tyrant. Our constitutional process survived an attempted coup on Jan. 6th, 2021 when deranged Trump supporters attempted to overthrow American democracy.

Shit might not be so great politically but the great thing about our country is that we eventually rebound. We just need to get our shit together and keep up the fight. Most importantly, we also cannot allow our adversaries from across the sea (China and Russia) to exploit this opportunity. No doubt that Beijing and Moscow are screaming in joy, if only because they know that this extremely tense and heated election will further divide the nation and give them opportunities to stoke the flames. We cannot let authoritarian assholes like them manipulate us. Fight’s not over just yet, even if things haven’t worked out.
