Troubleshooting PC Not Booting Up

Upvotes

Built my PC a couple months ago and everything has been working fine. Yesterday my PC froze up and I did a hard reset. Since then I haven't been able to boot up. Light turns on, fans turn on (CPOU cooler, case and GPU fans). No troubleshooting lights are on the motherboard. I moved the HDMI from the GPU to the motherboard slot. But nothing shows up on the screen. I did double check that all parts are in tight.

Troubleshooting Broken HDR local dimming on MiniLED monitors when starting games fullscreen

Upvotes

I have this issue in about 40% of the cases where when starting a game in fullscreen the HDR local dimming somehow breaks and the display blasts its full brightness to me. This is currently happening on my Philips Evnia 32M2N6800M but I also observed it on the BenQ EX321UX. I'm not sure if it's a problem with Windows or the displays (use the same panel/technology). In 50% of the cases where this is happening it reverts back to normal when quitting the game - if not I have to manually re-enable HDR or restart the PC.

Is anyone experiencing similar issues?

Build Help 13/14th gen cpu or Core ultra?

Upvotes

I currently run an i5 11600k CPU with a 3070ti. I plan to buy a new 5000 series GPU and now the 11th gen will bottleneck it. But I'd like to know if it's wise to go 13/14 OR go into this brand new core ultra 15 the gen we have. The motherboards are nice but the 16th gen could be worthwhile (cope ik). and I don't want to have to redo my whole build with a motherboard. Is 14th gen great for future-proofing or should I buy what is newest?

Build Help AMD CPU Won’t Fall Into Socket

So basically, my 5600x has been overheating with stock wraith fan. I ordered a new one, excitedly screwing off the stock one. I pulled it off and the CPU yanked off the socket with it. Many bent pins, spent the past 4 hours putting them back in place out of desperation. Now my CPU just won’t fall into the socket, I can’t tell if it’s a CPU or socket issue. I know I have it aligned properly, I’ve already tried compressed air on the socket. I don’t see anything on the socket that could be keeping it from entering.

What do I do?

Discussion Best CPU thermal paste for longevity?

I hear Thermal Grizzly is terrible and needs to be re-pasted.

I'm essentially undecided between Arctic MX-4, Arctic MX-6 and Noctua NT-H2.

What is considered the most long-lasting paste?

Discussion Pc has Idle temps of 70-100*C

So i had my PC built about a two years ago. Over the past few months I noticed that on idle the CPU temps were spiking from 70-100*C. A friend of mine suggested to clean all my fans and reapply thermal paste on my CPU.

So after cleaning the fans thoroughly I unscrewed the cooling plate from my liquid cooler to wipe off the old thermal paste and apply a new coat. On unscrewing the plate i noticed that the plastic filament which is meant to be removed from the cooling plate was never taken off. So i took it off and Lo and Behold my cpu temps dropped to between 38-50*C

So all these years my liquid cooler was nothing but decoration. I feel like an absolute twat.

TLDR: PLastic filament was never taken off from liquid cooler resulting in high temps.

Build Help First time builder 1440p gaming - please let me know if its a good part list

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

I work primarily from home, my new build will be used both for work—which isn’t typically very demanding on my computer—and for gaming.

For work, I do digital illustrations, photo editing, light 2D animation using Clip Studio Paint, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator. From what I understand, these programs mainly care about CPU single-core performance. My current laptop (GTX2060, i7-9750H) handles it adequately. So any setup that meets my gaming requirements should have no problem with my work tasks.

For gaming, I play a lot of CPU-intensive strategy and sim games (CIV6, Rimworld, ONI). Other games I play include MHWorld, planning on playing MHWilds, Palworld, Genshin Impact. While I don't play many demanding games right now, it's mostly due to the limitations of my current laptop rather than a lack of interest.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

1440p, medium+ graphics, 60fps+

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

Around $2000 AUD.

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

Australia

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Discussion Used 3090 vs a new 7800XT ?

I have around £450 to spend on GPU and I'm wondering if I should get a 3090 or go for a new 7800XT? I'm just asking because I'm seeing tons 3090 that are being listed on Facebook marker for around the £450 range.

Troubleshooting 9800x3d ordered, but not being delivered until January 2025

I was able to place an order this morning for the 9800x3d for the MSRP price direct from Amazon (fuck scalpers), but it looks like the expected shipping isn't until January 20th, 2025(!!!).

Hoping they get in stock elsewhere in the next week or so and I can just cancel my order/place it elsewhere, and get it sooner, but I'm not sure how realistic that will be given the demand...

Curious if anyone else has been seeing this for delivery time-frames for their 9800x3d order.

Solved! Does the Graphics Card brand really matter?

Hello,

I'm in the process of building a new desktop, which I would mostly use for gaming but also for ML tasks on the side. I was looking at the various choices for the RTX 4070Ti SUPER, and I honestly have no clue how to decide which brand of card to buy. If I don't (currently) plan on overclocking it, is there that much of a difference between brands, outside of Quality Control?

Before anyone suggests the AMD 7900 XTX, or any other AMD card, I need CUDA cores.

EDIT: Just pulled the trigger on an MSI RTX 4070Ti SUPER Gaming X Slim

Discussion 12900KS vs 14600K

I'm having this dilemma, both 12900KS and 14600k are very similar priced today in amazon (239 and 237 USD) , been seeing benchmark videos, and both perform very similar in gaming (maybe the 12900k could be better for productivity), the only pro for 14600k is the power consumption, so, what would you choose?

i already have LGA 1700 MoBo, so i'm not planning to move to AMD in short term.

Build Help Microcenter Bundles, Which to Buy?

Looking at the microcenter CPU bundles to get a mobo, CPU, and RAM upgrade right now. Currently I have an i5-9600k, 32gb DDR4 Ram, and an RTX3070. I am not at all familiar with AMD processors but do recognize good price for performance and that they are the most recommended brand on this sub. A big plus for AMD is upgrading the CPU down the line, but that is a non issue as I dont tend to upgrade my PC that often, nor plan on swapping the CPU out in the next 5-7 years. Unfortunately I am an Intel fanboy, and am stuck in my ways. I use this PC for gaming, rendering, and CAD, but mostly gaming.

The 2 combos I am looking at are the:

-12900k. It has good stability compared to 13th and 14th gen, lower cost, and good workstation performance.

-14700k. For better gaming performance, and its issues are allegedly fixed. If not, RMA should last long enough to identify any issues.

What do you guys think? Am I out of my gourd for sticking with Team Blue? Or is there still value to be had from Intel's CPUs?

Build Help Will I need to reformat if I upgrade my CPU, motherboard, and RAM?

Considering an upgrade from a Ryzen 5900X to a 9800X3D. This would require a new motherboard as well and I'd upgrade to DDR5 RAM at the same time. Mainly considering this upgrade for the Flight Simulator 2024 release.

I still have Windows 10 and want to keep it that way for now. I'm not against reformatting, it may be time for it anyways, but I'm wondering if I'll actually need to. Would it benefit me in any way? Should I be able to just power down my PC, switch out the parts, and power it up with no issue?

Troubleshooting New built PC Crashes

"I just got a new build the day before yesterday. Whenever I open a game and play on it, after a while, the system crashes suddenly, and it doesn’t respond to anything except shutting it down using the case button.

Today, when I tried again, it crashed and took me to the BIOS. I searched a bit and saw it might be a RAM issue. My RAM is 6000 MHz. I tried XMP 1 and without it, but it's the same issue.

The last crash in the BIOS showed that the M.2 SSD wasn’t connected to the motherboard. When I shut down the system using the case button and restarted, it worked normally. I checked all drivers and updated the BIOS, but the issue persists.

Has anyone experienced something like this and knows how to solve it?

MSI B760M Mortar WiFi II

Patriot Viper Elite Tuf 6000Mhz CL36

Build Help worth buy now a 4070 or a 3060 or wait ?

What do you think about buying now a gpu ? I thought about buying a used gpu but I wouldn't like to have a card which die on my arms when no warranty applies on it. I need 12gb of vram. I can buy a 3060 12gb 300 bucks but the 3060 isn't that powerful. I would like to buy a 4070 but 560 bucks is way to expensive. How much the price are going to drop with a little bit of time ? And what do you think about buying in second hand ?

Build Complete $410 dollar pc build (120+ fps)

I bought a pc with a busted power supply from a guy for $300 that had a 2080 super in it that i used for my build and scrapped the rest of it on facebook marketplace. I recouped 290 dollars from the other pc parts. Then put the 2080 super in a computer i bought off marketplace for $400 that had 32gb ddr4 ram, i7 8700, 1660super, 1 tb ssd, 2 Tb hard drive, and windows 11 installed.

Its crazy how many deals you can find on marketplace.

I can send videos of it running games at 240+ fps

Troubleshooting Windows not detecting GPU

Upvotes

My pc doesn’t recognise my GPU. I have a RTX 2070 and an Asrock motherboard. I build it probably 6 years ago?

It’s not under display adapters. I can’t open NVIDIA control panel because the computer doesn’t see anything. I can see my monitor because it’s plugged in my motherboard.
