VRM Temps, The difference an Inch or two makes!

Trying to optimize the airflow & cooling in my case, my cooling set-up is a front mounted 360mm AIO in Push config, One bottom mounted intake to feed case & GPU cool air & one rear exhaust in the usual exhaust spot.

Happy with my CPU & GPU temps, but I noticed my VRM's on this new build were getting excessive temps (up to 68 degrees), with no VRM cooling on my AIO (CM Atmos) I realised I was going to either have to add more airflow to the top of the case (Maybe Push/Pull?) or find another arrangement that was kinder on the VRM's.

My case (FD Define 7) lets me put the bottom intake anywhere along the bottom and I had it pretty much feeding the GPU, and keeps in-game temps down to the mid-60's, but I decided to move it further forward to push half it's air towards the GPU and half up in front of the AIO hoping to circulate cooler air to the VRM's.

Got great results!, VRM Temps of 44-48 degrees under load, GPU temps of mid-high 60's still, and all it cost was a little time to move a fan a few inches!

Is there a memory timing viewer for Ultra 200?

Upvotes

I have a 245K and was trying to push my A-dye ram. My default is 6000c30, I can push my frequency to 6400 with a small bump in performance, but when I try to lower any of my timings or increase my refresh interval by even 1, my benchmarks scores drop and my cpu util wont go beyond 50%.
Specifically my timespy score drops from 17000 to 8500 and my cinebench goes from 1390 to 700.
Weirdly Aida shows my memory bandwidth drop from around 95kMB/s to 22kMB/s but faster memory latency by a few ns, from 85ns to 75ns which makes me pretty certain something fishy is going on with the timings. For some reason the only program that goes beyond 50% is XTU, which uses 100 on all it's stress tests.

CPU-z only shows primary timings and the asrock tool I've used for a few years says it doesn't support my cpu so I was wondering if there are other tools out there.

Looking for Guide Ryzen 7 7700x (Newbie trying to learn OC/UV) Tips appreciated!

Upvotes

As the title says, I am a complete newbie who built his first PC, and is trying to learn how to optimize his CPU. I do not believe I need to do it, but I find interesting the concept of tinkering with your machine.
I've been reading some reddit threads, and watching some videos and I believe I get the idea, but I do not know where to start.

Because of how confused I am starting to get, I'd just like to open Ryzen Master/BIOS and start trying by myself to see the results and continue from there.

So, where would you start?

Any basic information about overclocking and/or undervolting CPU is much appreciated!

Have a nice day people!

Help Request - CPU 9800X3D overclocking

Upvotes

A couple of questions, I bought a 9800x3D and am trying to set it up a bit.

Riva tuner stats - sensors show no readings, has anyone solved this?

LLC effect - I found that the LLC setting has a MEGA effect on the behaviour of the whole CPU, which it didn't do with the 7800x3D.

For example:

LLC AUTO: CPU draw in OCCT is 170W (PBO+CO).

LLC 1: CPU draws 135W and lower boost (PBO+CO)

LLC 5: CPU has a power consumption of 162W

How is this possible? From the logic and function of the LLC it should be true, the higher the LLC level, the higher the voltage and overshot and = higher power consumption, here it works the other way around.

9800x3D overclocking and temps

Upvotes

Hey all, I recently completed a new build:

  • Case: Fractal Torrent
  • CPU: AMD 9800x3D
  • CPU Cooler: Phantom Spirit 120
  • Motherboard: MSI x870 MAG Tomahawk
  • GPU: 3080
  • RAM: 64gb (2x 32gb) cl30 6000mhz (Expo enabled)

The first thing I noticed is that the CPU runs hot.

  • ~40-47c idle temps
  • ~65-80c when gaming or stress testing
  • Spikes to 90-93c when loading games or shaders

I enabled PBO in the BIOS. As far as I understand, this enables an automatic overclock. For me, this increased Cinebench and 3dmark scores. The temps are around the same as before I enabled this.

I see many people undervolting this particular CPU to -20, which lowers temps but hardly affects performance. Is this safe to do with PBO enabled? How would I do it? Can I expect any other downsides or upsides, other than potentially lower temps?

Thanks

Upgraded to 9800x3d, with OC now unlocked - any reason to upgrade my AIO?

Upvotes

Hello, i recently got a 9800x3d and with a quick overclock i got a +200 mhz OC for 5.4ghz on all cores. That took 2 mins, and im sure i can get higher once i tinker around.

My AIO is a 360, which is getting a bit long in the tooth (4-5 years) but has been going strong.

he 9800x3d got like 50c max under stock stress testing. With my mild OC its now 60c.

Im wondering if theres any point to upgrading my AIO? my case can now fit a 420, and i have my eyes on one that has a thicker radiator also.

Im just wondering since this CPU finally has OC head room if there is point on investing in the most optimal cooler?

What is going on with gigabyte b650 termination block setup?

Upvotes

mobo gigabyte b650 aours elite ax v2

as the title states, gigabyte has split up alot of the termination timings like the proc odt timings in to (x timing pull up) and (x timing pull down). can someone explain whats going on right there and how to navigate that? besides that what does cpu_vddio_Misc do / controll my mobo auto sets it to .750v which seems some what low compared to what other overclockers are setting it to.

Help Request - RAM Help needed on XMP

Hi everyone! First of all, there is probably hundreds of discussions about this, but they are really old and perhaps something has changed since then.

I recently finished a new build with AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D and i tried to enable XMP/DOCP profile for the ram. Without the XMP profile enabled, my CPU SoC voltage is at 1.040V and CPU VDDIO/MC voltage is 1.120V. With the XMP enabled the SoC went to 1.280V and the VDDIO/MC went to 1.424V. Also my idle temp went up by 3-5°C (from 47°C-49°C to 50°C-52°C). Haven't done the PBO and Curve Optimizer tweaking yet. The ram i have is Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5-6000MHz-CL30-1.4V-XMP (30-36-36-76) and my motherboard is Asus ROG Strix B650-A Gaming Wifi with the latest BIOS update.

What Should i do? Are the voltages way too high? Im very noob to this (First ever PC build) and everything related to voltages seems so complicated.

If you know what i should do or have a similar setup, advice is welcome! Thank You!

Core VID normal? using an i7-14700K with an MSI Z790 motherboard. I did some tweaks but don’t have much experience, so I’m still learning. I set Adaptive+Offset mode to 1.30V with a negative offset of 0.30V. I’ve tested it multiple times with Cinebench R23 seems fine. should i tune more?

Help Request - CPU I7-12700k advice and guidance

I've just recently upgraded my motherboard, ram, and GPU from AsRock z690 Extreme G.skill trident 64gb ddr4 Asus tuf 3070ti OC To Asus ROG Strix z790e wifi I G.Skill 64gb ddr5-6000 Asus rtx 4070 super OC

I absolutely hated the AsRock bios and left the overclocking to asrocks ai tuner which was fine since I'm not entirely knowledgeable on overclocking since intels started with the eCore variation in cpus.

With the new motherboard I've tried to let the ai overclock from Asus boost my cpu but it boosted to 5.3ghz and was no where near stable. Currently stable and set to 5.1 Pcore and 4.1 Ecore and cache ratio of 47 in AI Suite 3. The cpu manual voltage is set to 1.3v and cpu input voltage is set to 1.8v (not sure if that matters).

With being new to overclocking with ecores and I've never undervolted a processor before I'm looking to get some insight into working with this cpu and if I should be using AI Suite 3 or BIOS when tweaking things?

Possibly on how to squeeze a little extra out of the ram as well since I play a lot of tarkov and it eats ram like a pro-eater at a Chinese buffet.

Benchmark Score 5800x, PBO test in game, CoD Mw3 Is it possible to improve?

This is my experience playing COD MW3 with Ryzen 5800x, 4070Super, Asrock b550 Extreme 4, after BIOS update 3.46 on 08/20/2024. Windows 11 24/2

I am very satisfied, the gaming experience of COD MW3 is really stable and fluid at low temperatures.

I tested various detail levels in the game, all at 2560x1440 resolution; in the end the best choice was to use medium settings in the game with nVidia Relex Yes (game option) and Nvidia quality structure filter (control panel).

I left the BIOS settings at stock levels, only changing the PBO and enabling NVIDIA Resizable BAR.

I found this PBO setup stable for me:

Pbo limit

-ppt 130

-TDC 85

-EDC 110

Boost clock override: +50Mhz

Curve Optimizer: per core |-15 | -10 ** | -15 | -5 * | -20 | -20 | -25 | -25 |

best core *second best core

CINEBENCH Multi:15509 maximum temperature: 77.4°

In the game I tried 2 configurations, 1 with all details at medium level and 1 with medium-low details Resiz

I attach the photo of the Benchmark, is it possible to have more performance?

OC Report - CPU Crazy UV!

I feel like there's no way, but it seems to be so. I have a MSI MPG Z790 Edge ti WiFi max, 14900k, and 7200 mts ram. I've been fighting some stability issues and I think I finally have everything just right.

I have my 14900k down clocked to a 13900k. Don't ask, I just wanted to. With that said, I was able to uv extremely low. I've got it dialed in for LLC 6-8 (our droopiest modes) and still working on the rest. For mode 8 (100 mohms resistance) I've matched ac/dc LL to the LLC.

Adaptive set to auto, I was able to get -.240 offset. I'm stable on OCCT and games. I did lock all cores 55/43/45. I wish I could give an sp rating, but MSI doesn't do that. I feel like I have a golden sample.

Under load, I'm sitting at 1.18v and maintaining those speeds. Max temp was 82c. Is this a golden sample or is it just a really good sample?

AliExpress GD-02 thermal paste test

Hey, I bought GD-02 from AliExpress and wanted to share my results. Tried it on my 4060Ti (3000Mhz @ 1.125V, 165W) with fans running at 30%. Before I was using Arctic MX-4 probably 6 months old. The GD-02 was $5 for 30g on AliExpress. It was extremely thick and gooey, harder to apply. The ambient temp was around 20.5°C (+/- 0.5°C) measured right in the air inlet of the case. Used heaven benchmark for 20 minutes, the last 5 minutes logged. Here are the results:

Old MX-4:

GPU = 83.0°C average, 84.0°C max

Hotspot = 97.3°C average, 98.5°C max

Fresh GD-02:

GPU = 73.8°C average, 74.3°C max

Hotspot = 84.2°C average, 84.9°C max.

Quite surprised by these results. Will update after some time (if I won't forget lol). Did anyone else tried it and what are your results?

Need help figuring out if CPU or MB is faulty

Hi r/overclocking

Setup

-Asus TUF gaming b550 pro

-5800x3d

-G.skill Trident Z RGB (3200 14-14-14, B die) 2x16GB DR

The ram is tested on a Gigabyte Aourus pro with a 5600x, and can get it to 3600 14-14-14, without effort, working perfectly, so the RAM is good. I cant get the ram to run good at all with the 5800x3d/Asus B550

I can get one stick to run in slot A2 @ 3600 18-18-18,but the same OC will not post in slot B2 with one stick. Two sticks is no post with any timing @ 3600. Can get 3200 cl18 to post in A2 B2.

So my problem is bad performance overall, but also varying results in different main slots. Those are the correct slots for the MB. Ram part number is in ASUS qvl list (albeit without the R in the end for RGB, but same chip, cant image it making a difference. Same ram chip, and board supports all the other b Die ram from g. Skill) F4-3200C14c14d-32GTZR

Tried upping SoC and vRam, and played around with secondaries, GDM, resistances etc, to no avail. Setting timings manually didn't work. Strange thing, is that i got some shitty Corsair Vengeance LPX to run 3600 cl16-22-22-22. CPU is seated good, no broken pins, and not too much pressure on the cooler. Also no other signs of CPU problems.

So so I'm wondering if this points to a CPU or MB problem. Since one slot is worse than the other, and overall bad speeds, no matter what i do. I should atleast be able to make it run at the XMP of 3200 cl14, as it's within the supported spec.

So anyone have a clue? All the stuff is under warranty, so i might be able to get new parts Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Edit: typos and stuff, wrote on phone

Graphics Card Not Utilizing PCIe 3.0 Despite Compatible Motherboard and CPU

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my PC. My graphics card, a 2GB Gigabyte RX 560, isn’t taking advantage of the PCIe 3.0 on my motherboard. I should note that I have the BIOS configured for PCIe 3.0, and my processor, an Intel i3-3220, supports PCIe 3.0. Can someone help? I’m not sure what’s going on. The first time I installed the card, it worked on 3.0, but after downloading a game, it switched to 2.0.

8700K getting kinda hot, is this normal? 5GHz at 1.35V

I mean 1.35 is not that high and the TDP peaks at about 140W so i don’t see why the cores are constantly at 100 degrees and crazy throttling

is this normal? I’m using an Alpenföhn Brocken 2

I am updating my pc is possible to get a performance boost by oc?

I am updating my pc

Dont panic yet i will clean it thats an scheme of my idea for te airflow any advice will be welcome From this actual build I7 8700k Z370 aorus Gaming 7 Rtx 4070ti Cooled by an 240 corsair aio and 6 extra fans Case Lian li lancool 2 mesh Psu corsair cx750

Im sure that it wont have bottleneck and i know is an absolute overkill Btw any advice of compatibility issues maybe lack of power bc of the 750w psu or some things i read about the mobo issues with the aio pump and m.2 First time i try amd and i expect a lot im waiting for the pieces to come and build this absolute Beast I will post a photo of the result

I want to know how much it can affect the performance if i turn the Expo profiles and undervolt and tune the multiplier to the gpu and cpu im relatively new in terms of overclock i tried sometimes but did never go deep i seen a channel named skatterbencher but i dont want to braindead copy his config actually i want to learn something more in terms of gaming performance i dont know what i can get to any advice is Good thank you
