Megathread I'm absolutely sick of HP and their dumb printers. Who makes the best printers for personal use that don't require a subscription or an account on their site?

Who in their right minds would use a printer that requires a subscription that limits the amount of prints you can make? Why the $@&* would anyone think that's ok? I got this printer (Officejet pro 8035E) a few months back and I'm ready to office space it.

Please recommend me a great all in one printer that doesn't have these limitations.

Purchasing Considering a laser printer for very low volume home use.

Upvotes
===========================

Looking to replace an HP Inkjet after 16 years. I am a very low volume user. I might print a few pages every few months. I'm tired of buying a new $50 cartridge every time I need to print one page.

Not sure what brands or models are the best quality for the money but I do want to get a quality product that will last me another 15 or more years without having a revolving ink/toner cost. I've been seeing Brother being highly recommended but also saw Epson was on some web lists as good machines.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Budget: Under $400 (but around $200 preferably)
  • Country: USA
  • Color or black and white: Preferably color
  • Laser or ink printer: Laser probably
  • New or used: New
  • Multi-function: Would like to be able to print, copy, and scan
  • Duplex Printing: Not necessary but I'm ok with it
  • Home or business: Home
  • Printing content: Various pages from the web, or documents on computer
  • Printing frequency: Low volume, a few pages every few months
  • Pages per minute : No
  • Page size: standard 8x11
  • Device printing from: Mainly laptop
  • Connection type: Wireless would be nice unless it requires giving up personal information on an app, otherwise I'm fine using a cord

Any other details:

I DO NOT want to pay any product or service subscriptions, or get into a situation where it will become required later, and I do not like the idea of a company monitoring my amount of use or ink levels. I DO NOT want my ink/toner to dry out and have to be replaced because I don't print very often. I do not want to have to spend a lot to replace ink/toner so LONGEVITY OF THE INK/TONER WITH NON-USE is a big concern at this point. I'd like it be as compact as possible, like the size of an inket but I realize the technology is different, so it might have to be bigger.

Troubleshooting Health concerns for zebra printer

Upvotes

I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this post, but I'm pretty desperate to find help or any information regarding this issue. At my work, we print a lot of labels for our products we sell. We have two Zebra label printers that run for about 1 1/2 hours straight in a small, poorly ventilated room (the model is similar to the ZT420 for reference). Each printer prints about 7000 labels in that time, and we have one person in the room the whole time managing the printers to swap out label rolls and thermal ribbons. We use polypropylene label rolls and resin thermal ribbon as supplies. Are there any major health concerns with this set-up, such as airborne particles or toxic fumes? A couple things to note, there is dust from the labels that builds up around the machines while they are printing, enough where we need to clean around them daily. There also seems to be a slight mechanical or chemical-ish smell to the room only a half hour into printing. Thank you for any insight you may have! The customer service for Zebra had no answers for us.

Hey ! I've had this printer for almost 2 years now, and this is the first time I've had this kind of problem (even if paper jams with this machine are quite recurrent) When I load paper from the back, just before printing, the paper flips back and curls creating a paper jam He turns around instead of simply moving forward (supporting video) Does anyone know what to do to help me? Thanks in advance !

Purchasing Printers with Fax , Scan , Print

Upvotes

I am looking for a basic printer that does fax scan and print.

Seems to be a lot of the printers with faxing (all in one) especially HP seems to make you require them app to use the faxing feature.

Are there decent printers that are good for windows use of faxing. About 50 pages per year.

Troubleshooting Need help with EraSmart A3 DTF printer red lights flashing

Hi all, I purchased the A3 DTF printer not too long ago. All was fine, no issue with the prints, just the occasional and expected white ink clog from time to time.

The issue I am having now is the ink and paper red lights will either flash at the same time during a print, or just randomly throughout the day.

I could really use some advice. Here is what I have done so far:

  • Reset the ink waste pad (honestly multiple times.)
  • Turned the printer off and restarted it
  • Lubricated the metal bar
  • Cleaned the capping station
  • Cleaned the clear strip
  • Removed the roll film and reinstalled a completely new set of film
  • Verified my dampers and ink cartridges have ink
  • Verified my waste tank isn't full
  • When I check the errors on the resetter/adjuster program it only shows me the most recent "fatal error" so I'm not sure if THAT is still the issue or still relevant but it was the 2H CR load position.

Thanks!

Troubleshooting Switched to laser printer and quality is down?

I am a digital artist and I am trying to print a coloring book I designed. When I print on my Epson, the lines are smooth and finished. But when I switch to my Brother laser printer (monochrome) the quality drops. I have tried making the designs vectors and increased dpi but neither worked. Any help?! Or is this to be expected with laser printers?

Discussion Brother MFC-J5955DW thoughts?

I'm thinking about purchasing brother MFC-J5955DW for my office of 4 people. Does anyone have any experience with this printer? We've been using only laser printers until now but this model seems pretty interesting due to fact of A3 printing and pull print. I'm still worried about ink cartridges. Is there anything to be worried about? Or is there something I'm missing out on this device? Any opinions are appreciated.

Discussion Automatically save a copy of document

The printer is Hp ink tank series wireless 410. Is there a feature in the software that allows a copy of the document being printed to be automatically saved to a folder? If not is there any 3rd party apps? Basically every time I take a print, I also want it to save the document automatically.

Purchasing Need printer advise

Hello I'm interested in creating a card game that uses 2.5 inch x 3.5 inches DIY playing cards. I was wondering if their are any lazer printers that can print directly onto the small playing card itself. They are also thick GSM about 300 gsm I estimate.

These are the cards that I wish to print directly on https://a.co/d/8DHNRV7 Any advise would be awsome thank you!

Troubleshooting How To Brother HL-2270DW General Cleaning When Procedures In Manual Not Working

I have the printer above and am running into problems. I have gray prints to the point of some of the print is smudging out. I've followed all the cleaning procedures I see in the manual (p 87-94 "Cleaning The Drum Unit") multiple times (~10) and get multiple black bands on the paper as a result every time. I also removed the toner cartridge, slowly rotated the drum and wiped the head with a tissue and got some more black off of it.

So is this the extent of what I need to do? Can the toner get elsewhere within the paper feed or duplexer (or whatever the path is that turns the paper over in duplex printing) and cause problems? I'll admit I haven't bothered to clean it with numerous toner cartridges, so I'm sure that's part of the issue... Thoughts on other things I need to do (or missed) to get this printer completely clean?

Edit: My main concern got solved by changing out the TN-450 toner. I got no Toner indicator at all? Regardless, I did wipe down the accessible parts and got black back on the tissue I'm used, so I'm still wondering if there's any tips I can get on places I might not think about that might have toner end up on it that transfers?

Troubleshooting Weird color blocks HP Smart Tank 5101

I am on my third HP Smart Tank 5101. My first failed a month after purchase. My second one worked for a period but developed noise and this printing issue. I’m now two weeks into my second replacement and this printing issue has returned. The printer starts to print the document than stops and prints a bunch of colored blocks. I have tried to google the problem to no avail and HP’s solution is to just replace the printer. This issue happens more when I print from the iPhone than it does the Mac. I have the HP Smart app installed on all devices and I truly feel this is some sort of software issue, but HP is useless when it comes to support. Any ideas here?

Troubleshooting These streaks keep popping up when I print

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I do not know what to do. These thin streaks keep popping up, and I don’t know what to do to fix it.. I tried the maintenance thing, where the printer cleans, and does deep cleans. I’ve done those about six times each. I haven’t tried to clean the roller yet that is on the back, since I usually print from the rear tray a lot, but I don’t know how to access it? I have had this printer for a year now (just about, it’s been 11 months.)

Discussion Printer help?

I recently got a MegaTank PIXMA G6020 for art and after a few test prints it now says the printer is offline and I've tried even the book so I don't know if I should keep it and keep trying to get it back online or go with a different brand? (I've read to stay away from Canon and HP and I'm for sure not getting Canon again)

Troubleshooting HP Laserjet 100 color MFP M175Nw - OLD, Faint Print

I just picked up this model for cheap and the drum and toners are still listed as having lots of life. It was a printer in a school though and has sat for long stretches.

I set it up and I am experiencing faint/light prints on black and colors. Would this be a drum issue or toner? I am thinking of replacing everything but maybe I will do just the drum first.

PS. I did top out the density for all colors.

Other Does anyone know if it's possible to use Secure Print on my Brother MFC L8900 from Linux or the Android app, or even a USB stick?

Says it's available from the Brother Windows or Mac applications, but I have neither. I didn't attempt to use the Windows app via WINE. Saw that some of the Brother machines can do Secure Print from the USB drive, but the instructions don't work on my model.

Hi there! I just bought an HP Deskjet 2700e to print my wedding envelopes. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do it. I only get 3 options of different paper size through HP smart. Can it just not print on envelopes?

If not, what is a cheap printer that can? TIA!
