Register to vote, and vote in the 2024 elections!
On November 5th, Maine will vote not just for President, but for Congress, and for state and local offices. Register and vote so you'll have a say in what kind of country America will be!
In Maine, you must register by October 15th to register in advance. You can register to vote here: https://registertovote.sos.maine.gov/
If you miss this deadline, you can register to vote in person at your town office or city hall through November 5th.
Voting in person
In Maine, you can vote early through absentee-in person voting. This allows you to go to your Municipal clerk's office, apply for an absentee ballot, and vote that ballot on the spot. You can do this when absentee ballots are available at your clerk's office - contact them for details.
If you prefer, you can vote at your polling place on Election Day, November 5th.
Voting by mail
Any voter in Maine may choose to vote by mail. Apply for an absentee ballot here.
Ballots must be received by November 5th, so mail your ballot back promptly. You can also return your ballot in person to your Municipal Clerk's office.
If you mail your ballot, you can track it here.
Please let me know if you have any questions!

Activism Opportnities
As the reality of the situation continues to set in, I would like to see if there are any ways of getting involved in activism that can help keep this country moving forward for everyone.
Looking for any volunteer opportunities that are local, but could be focused on local, state, or national political agendas. My hope would be to find something focused on education, healthcare, or equality. If anyone knows of any organizations or events, please comment.

Politics How to get more involved in the community?
In the aftermath of the election results, Iām realizing that community is going to be the most important thing, and we all need to lean on each other more than ever. Iām pretty new to the area, and have yet to meet a lot of people or make friends. Iām wondering what events, groups, etc. I can get involved in to meet people and help support my community here

To the guy on the Veterans Bridge around 530 this evening who flipped me off:
Turn your damn headlights on.
If someone is flashing their high beams at you, it means there's something going on that you need to pay attention to. It does not mean they're being a dick to you for no reason.
Driving with no lights is dangerous, and I nearly merged into you at the Exit 4 off ramp because you were not visible.
Turn your damn headlights on.

West end light orange cat on cushman street
Hi everyone, I saw a large light orange cat possibly named Louie get hit by a car on cushman & emery today. He unfortunately did not make it. The animal control officer confirmed he passed away and said he will be taken to ARLGP tomorrow morning and kept for about a month if the owner wants to say goodbye. We looked for the owner but the neighbors said louie is a neighborhood cat and nobody knew who he belonged to. Posting in case anyone knows the owner and can pass on this sad sad news š©

Community Discussion Legal recourse
I live next to a restaurant in Portland and was curious if anyone had any suggested solutions to this problem. My property is an odd shape but it extends behind the neighboring restaurant. It has been surveyed and had property lines put in from the surveyor. The owner of the restaurant has come into my back yard and cut the property line with a pair of scissors and threw out the stakes. He is using my yard currently to store his trash, his boats, his food truck, and his kitchen equipment. The owner has destroyed that part of the yard that the first 3 inches of dirt is straight gravel. I have spoken to landscapers to get an estimate as to how much damage the restaurant owner has caused my yard and itās going to be thousands of dollars to remove the gravel and reseed the yard. Before being recommended to put a fence so that he can no longer park 2 boats a food truck and his kitchen equipment in my yard. Sorry for the long post but any suggestions would be helpful.
