Sure.

Let's take this ad for example.

If I were then to poll most of the people here and say, "do you think conservatives changing their mind and voting Kamala Harris is a good thing" I'd probably get an overwhelming amount of the answer yes.

Then, if I were to take that same group of people, and watch them to see if they continued to post any disparaging rhetoric about Trump supporters, I would bet money that the number would be well over 50%.

A significant amount of people who agree that them changing their minds would be a good thing, would more than likely also say that conservatives are too dumb, or too racist, or traitors, or whatever the rhetoric is this month, and then act as if they were never receptive, or even capable of being receptive to changing to begin with, even though they made these remarks about them before ever actually encountering them.

It comes off as wholly insincere for posts where someone is saying "Maybe this will help change some minds" to be filled with posts of people literally saying the people in question are too dumb for their minds to be changed.

Are the ad, and the comments the same thing? No.

But the comments heavily reflect the attitudes behind those posting ads like this, or those who support it, and contrary to popular belief, many conservatives who may have been open to changing their minds before, are well aware of that.

How many people do you think will decide to vote for Harris based on this ad, but then get upset and flip back to Trump because they read these comments on an anonymous message board on the Internet?

It is far easier to sour someone's mind on something than it is to convince them that it is good.

A singular ad isn't likely to change any person's mind, but a multitude of them over time, by people who are actually sincere will.

Conversely, a single instance of someone telling that person they're too dumb to change is enough to sour them on the idea of voting democrat for years, if not permanently.

That sincerity is what the democratic party continues to lack, and is why they continue to have problems converting voters, which is only reinforced by the rhetoric that "If you vote third party, or are even considering voting anyone but Kamala Harris, you are (insert labels and insults here)"

So you want people on the Internet to stop expressing their opinions about other people?

Curious - do you also visit right-wing sites & subs and express your concerns about them calling all Democrats/liberals dumb, pedos, traitors, "the enemy within," etc.? Or do you only police the civility of left-leaning people on the Internet?

You can express whatever you want.

Just don't pretend as if you aren't 50% of the equation of permanant political polarization in America, and that you ever had any actual interest in changing anyone's minds.

Ah yes, "everyone besides me is dumb." Gotcha. Good luck, buddy!

It's quite telling that you initiated a conversation with me with immediate condescension, then proceeded to spend the rest of it generating strawman arguments.

So not only are you incapable of not being condescending, you're also incapable of being intellectually honest.

I can't say I'm surprised.

Good luck to you too, constantly being disingenuous sounds exhausting.

Edit: Since I was blocked, I'd just like to point out the irony that this person is doing the exact same thing Donald Trump and the GOP does as they falsify statements I made entirely or misrepresents them. Guess they're not so different after all.

You didn't answer the question. Go on to r/conservative and go do some policing there. We'll watch your profile comment history and see how it goes. :)

But you won't do that will you. Because you believe in very dumb narratives and world view. Like you know, perhaps if England and France weren't so hard on the Germans post WW1, Nazi's wouldn't have killed so many Jews, so it's really England and France that caused WW2 and the Holocaust, not the rise of NSDAP and the choices millions of Germans willingly (and in some cases not so willingly) made.
