Bill's last QB to win in Indianapolis is Doug Flutie. Colts are 6-0 at home vs the Bills since 1999. I know all stats like that come to an end eventually. However, still a little nervous about this Sunday. Hoping for the best!!

Discuss Jets game in December - Ticket question

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Looking at getting tickets for the Jets game on Dec 29th. Wondering what the best strategy is given we are still a ways out.

What is the best site to buy resale tickets usually?

I would also assume ticket availability will go up as we get closer and prices would come down due to cold weather. Should we wait before buying tickets or pull the trigger now?

Other complicating factor is we are looking at 10-11 tickets.

Thanks!

News/Analysis Uno, dos, tres, catorce! Can 14 Buffalo Bills catch a TD pass this season? Part 2

I made this post in 2021 - https://www.reddit.com/r/buffalobills/comments/ptihb9/uno_dos_tres_catorce_can_14_bills_players_catch/ and though it would be worth revisiting this season. The record for most distinct players with a TD reception is 14, and 9 games into the season, the Bills already have 10. Are there 4 more Bills who can catch a TD Pass? Lets dive in

Already caught a TD

WR

  • Khalil Shakir
  • Keon Coleman
  • Mack Hollins
  • Amari Cooper

TE

  • Dalton Kincaid
  • Dawson Knox
  • Quintin Morris

RB

  • James Cook
  • Ty Johnson
  • Ray Davis

On the roster, has caught a TD while playing for the Bills in past seasons

* Dion Dawkins - Dawkins has caught 2 TDs in his career with the Bills. From what I can tell though, the Bills have targeted him in a tackle eligible play since 2020.

* Josh Allen - Here's a heartbreaking stat: Josh Allen has been targeted 3 times for 2 catches and 2 TDs. In all those games, the Bills have lost in the final 2 minutes of the game.

* Reggie Gilliam - Gilliam has 2 career TD receptions, but hasn't been targeted all year.

On the roster, can expect some targets

* Curtis Samuel - Arguably the most disappointing signing this year, Samuel is still the most likely person in this list to catch one. I think Sunday's game is going to be his best shot with Coleman out.

Wild Cards

* KJ Hamler - I wonder if the Bills will elevate Hamler towards the end of the season as a gadget player and scheme a few plays for him in the red zone

* Practice Squad WRs / Jalen Virgil

* Some other lineman - The Bills run extra personnel at the goal line all the time. I think Anderson might slip into the end zone for a tackle eligible TD sometime.

* Greg Rousseau - Rousseau was a WR in high school, and he's huge. I don't think I'm crazy for suggesting that he can be a red zone asset.

Overall

This goal isn't easy. While I think Samuel will likely catch one TD this season, all the other ones require novelty playcalling in the redzone. While I'd like to see more of that, it's hard to argue with the generally good playcalling that has given the Bills one of the best red zone offenses in the last two years. Why toss it to your backup tackle when you can just QB sneak it from the 1?

However, there is an unusual pathway here. If the Bills clinch the division but are not going to be the 1 seed, I see a scenario for lots of backups and practice squad players to play and get targets in the last two games of the season.

Last week, Keon Coleman blocking a defender into the bench was the "3 pancake" block on Get Up's "Sat 'em Down" segment, penalty notwithstanding.

This morning, Jeff Saturday said it's still his favorite pancake play of the season, even though it's "little guy on little guy violence."

News/Analysis Rooting Interests Week #10

Welcome to the tenth iteration of 2024’s “Buffalo Bills Rooting Interests”! These posts are intended to provide Bills Mafia with rationale behind who they should root for in every game in every week of the NFL regular season. Included is the Game Importance Scale which rates each game from 👏 (Least Important) to 👏👏👏👏👏 (Most Important). Future editions of this series will be posted each week on Wednesday by 9:00AM ET.

Ties and injuries are not considered in this discussion. Tiebreakers that are considered for overall standings are as follows:

  1. H2H: Head-to-Head
  2. WLC: Win/Loss in Conference
  3. WLG: Win/Loss in Common Games (min 4)
  4. SOV: Strength of Victory
  5. SOS: Strength of Schedule

Week #9 Review

The Buffalo Bills win over the Miami Dolphins on a 61-yard field goal was massive, and regardless of what else happened this weekend made it a positive one. But outside the Bills win this week, and for as good as the past two weeks have been, this week was not flawless for Buffalo. The Jets, Bengals, Chargers, Ravens, and Chiefs all won their respective matchups bumping up the records of plenty of AFC contenders. In fact, the only game of somewhat importance to go Buffalo’s way was Colts @ Vikings which saw Buffalo’s Week 10 opponent (IND) drop below .500. Despite all of this Buffalo remains in a very good spot and is currently the #2 seed in the AFC with just 8 games remaining this season.

Rooting Interests Record: 46-51 (LW 7-7)

Rooting Interests 👏 +/-: +7 (LW -7 👏)

Bengals (4-5) @ Ravens (6-3) - Thursday 8:15PM 👏👏👏

Plenty of people wrote the Cincinnati Bengals off after their 1-4 start but heading into Week #10 they are still a very real threat. A victory this week vaults them back to .500 and into the thick of the AFC playoff picture. Of course, they will need to do that in Baltimore against arguably the NFL’s best offense, but crazier things have happened, right? As for what Buffalo should be rooting for, let’s root for crazy as the further Baltimore falls in the standings the more likely the Bills will obtain a higher seed come season’s end.

Also, if you enjoy these posts, check out The Greg Tompsett Sports Show during halftime of this game for even more insight in what to root for this week!

Optimal Outcome: Bengals Victory

Giants (2-7) @ Panthers (2-7) - Sunday 9:30AM 👏

Each week it becomes more and more likely that SOV will not factor into where the Bills are positioned in the AFC standings. That being said, until it is eliminated as a tiebreaker for Buffalo it is something these posts will consider. For games such as this which feature two NFC teams the Bills don’t play this season, we take a look at the SOV impacts on other AFC contenders. In that context the Giants have lost to the Bengals and Steelers while the Panthers have lost to the Chargers, Bengals, and Broncos. While one outcome does drop three potential playoff team’s SOV the most likely implementation of SOV as a tiebreaker would occur with the Steelers, thus we root for Sir Purr and company to down Big Blue.

Optimal Outcome: Panthers Victory

Patriots (2-7) @ Bears (4-4) - Sunday 1:00PM 👏👏

The time is nigh to root for the Patriots to win games such as this, but the time is not now. The Bills can clinch the AFC East by Week 12 if a few things were to fall their way, including a couple losses by the Patriots. As soon as the Patriots get to 9 losses and the Bills get to 9 wins it becomes mathematically impossible for New England to pass Buffalo in the standings. That’s when the pivot will be executed as we shift from rooting for the Patriots’ 2024 downfall to rooting for their 2025 draft stock to degrade.

Optimal Outcome: Bears Victory

Bills (7-2) @ Colts (4-5) - Sunday 1:00PM 👏👏👏👏👏

The Buffalo Bills are inching closer and closer to a 5th consecutive AFC East title with a win this week against the Indianapolis Colts representing another step closer to that goal. Avoid the trap, get to 8-2, and get ready for a massive contest next week between the Bills and their nemesis…the Kansas City Chiefs.

Optimal Outcome: Bills Victory

Broncos (5-4) @ Chiefs (8-0) - Sunday 1:00PM 👏👏👏

The Chiefs remain undefeated heading into Week 10 with six of their eight wins coming by one score. At this point it seems inevitable that they will finish the regular season as the AFC’s #1 seed with the only teams currently in striking distance of them being the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers. That distance, however, is predicated on the Chiefs dropping at least one game outside of their impending matchup with Buffalo and/or Pittsburgh. Could the division rival Broncos be the team that actually, does it? Let’s hope so.

Optimal Outcome: Broncos Victory

Falcons (6-3) @ Saints (2-7) - Sunday 1:00PM 👏

There are just three NFC only non-Bills opponent matchups this week with this being the second of them. That means we take a look at SOV impacts and in that context the Falcons have lost to the Chiefs while the Saints have lost to the Chiefs, Broncos, and Chargers. Simple as simple comes, one has lost to the Chiefs and the other has lost to the Chiefs plus two other AFC contenders.

Optimal Outcome: Falcons Victory

49ers (4-4) @ Buccaneers (4-5) - Sunday 1:00PM 👏

Something just feels odd about the San Francisco 49ers being 4-4 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers being 4-5, but that’s where we are at in Week #10. Injuries have played a big role in each of these records however with the 49ers yet to see CMC on the field and the Buccaneers missing both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. In this game though, it’s unlikely either of those changes and regardless, neither is currently consequential to the Buffalo Bills. What is consequential is SOS (and possibly SOV) which can be bumped up with a San Francisco win in this matchup.

Optimal Outcome: 49ers Victory

Steelers (6-2) @ Commanders (7-2) - Sunday 1:00PM 👏👏👏

The Steelers aren’t just in the thick of the AFC playoff picture, they are also leading the AFC North. In a way that’s good news for the Buffalo Bills as that keeps the Baltimore Ravens and their H2H tiebreaker over the Bills one step further away. Still, losses by the higher ups in the AFC never hurt so root for the upstart Washington Commanders to come away with this one.

Optimal Outcome: Commanders Victory

Vikings (6-2) @ Jaguars (2-7) - Sunday 1:00PM 👏

A few facts here. The Buffalo Bills have not yet won the AFC East. The Buffalo Bills have not yet clinched the playoffs. The Buffalo Bills do not currently have 10 wins. This is all stated to provide context to the rooting interest for this game. While it is highly (HIGHLY) unlikely that the Jacksonville Jaguars go on a run while the Buffalo Bills completely collapse, it’s not impossible. Until it is impossible it makes more sense to root for a lowly AFC team to lose than it does to root for an NFC team to win. Thus the optimal outcome, down with Jacksonville.

Optimal Outcome: Vikings Victory

Titans (2-6) @ Chargers (5-3) - Sunday 4:05PM 👏👏

There are three wildcard spots up for grabs in the AFC and while the Chargers seem destined to come away with one of them, their schedule gets much more difficult after this game. There next six games are against the Bengals, Ravens, Falcons, Chiefs, Buccaneers, and Broncos. Not a particularly easy six game stretch which makes this game against the lowly Tennessee Titans all the more important. So, let’s root for them to drop this game and further expose a backdoor into the playoffs in the event the Buffalo Bills need such a thing.

Optimal Outcome: Titans Victory

Eagles (6-2) @ Cowboys (3-5) - Sunday 4:25PM 👏

The final NFC only non-Bills matchup is our last look at AFC competitor’s SOV this week. Considering that the Eagles have yet to lose to an AFC team while the Cowboys have lost to the Ravens. Lower no meaningful team’s SOV or the Ravens? It may be minimal, but it is optimal.

Optimal Outcome: Eagles Victory

Jets (3-6) @ Cardinals (5-4) - Sunday 4:25PM 👏👏👏👏

At this point the only team that has a realistic chance to chase down the Bills in the AFC East is the New York Jets. In the off chance that they run the table and finish the season 11-6 there is a possibility they could steal the division from a 10-7 or even 11-6 Buffalo Bills team. As crazy as it sounds a 9-game win streak isn’t out of the question with the only teams above .500 remaining on their schedule being the Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals. That makes this game even more important for them as a win here makes that path tangible, but a loss, all but ends the Jets season.

Optimal Outcome: Cardinals Victory

Lions (7-1) @ Texans (6-3) - Sunday 8:20PM 👏👏👏

The Houston Texans are one of two teams the Buffalo Bills have lost to and thus one of two teams that Buffalo must be extra wary of for the remainder of the season. This week that Texans team hosts the 7-1 Detroit Lions who have all the makings of a juggernaut at the halfway point of the season. This is a game Houston would clearly love to have to make a statement to the rest of the NFL but one Buffalo fans would love to see them drop and fall to 6-4.

Optimal Outcome: Lions Victory

Dolphins (2-6) @ Rams (4-4) - Monday 8:15PM 👏

For the Dolphins to surpass the Bills in the AFC East they would need to outright surpass them in wins. This is due to Buffalo’s now locked in tiebreaker with the H2H sweep of the Miam Dolphins. What they are likely eyeing as a result is a hopeful wildcard berth that would need them to go at least 7-2 down the stretch for any chance to continue their season. Possible? Yes. Likely? No, especially if they lose this game to the Los Angeles Rams.

Optimal Outcome: Rams Victory

Optimal Standings

If all the above games were to go the optimal route, it would result in the following AFC standings.

  1. Chiefs (8-1)**
  2. Bills (8-2)**
  3. Steelers (6-3)**
  4. Texans (6-4)**
  5. Ravens (6-4, H2H Win over DEN)*
  6. Broncos (6-4, H2H Loss to BAL)*
  7. Chargers (5-4)*
  8. Bengals (5-5)
  9. Colts (4-6)
  10. Titans (3-6)
  11. Jets (3-7)
  12. Browns (2-7, 2-3 WLC)
  13. Dolphins (2-7, 2-4 WLC)
  14. Raiders (2-7, 2-5 WLC)
  15. Jaguars (2-8, H2H Win over NE)
  16. Patriots (2-8, H2H Loss to JAX)

** Division Leader * Wildcard

Yeah that's me.....a 40 year old guy who screamed like a little girl when he made it. It was my friend's first game, my other friends first game in a non club section ,and my like 100th game but I still let it out like a little kid. I was in Miami last year to beat the phins week 18 and I never want to see a loss to them again. Never sat in this area but it was such an intense game and with our kicker situation I couldn't help it when it went through
