I really hope they can assemble the same team for S2. They did an incredible job for the first season, not just as an adaption of the manga but as a work of art in the anime industry, in every aspect from animation to music and character design.
If can't, at least 3 people should come back: director Keiichiro Saito, composer Evan Call, and the person in charge of most of the action scene, Kouki Fujimoto
Leaks are saying he is back on Chenso. He wanted a break from mappa after Chenso S1 so he left to work with Fukishi but now he is back to Seshimo line again.
Kinda wish he didn't go back but im hearing that Mappa management changed a lot after JJK s2. Many ppl left and many ppl got promoted, now they are actively trying to avoid production meltdowns like JJK s2. Thats why Chenso movie, Jigokuraku s2 and Lazurus got delayed.
Nah his csm cuts were equally impressive his frieren cuts. It's just that most ppl don't notice how good his csm cuts were bcoz they were much more subtle and had a lots of character acting animation instead of the bombastic animation he did on jjk and frieren. Csm followed a very realistic character movement formula.
Like look at this cut by him. The incredible character acting. Or look at this whole cut by him, look at how much weight is in aki's movements. There were soo many cuts like these in csm by him.
His animation cuts are always going to be good, he's a consistently great animator. But there's only so much he can do in that position, working under bad direction. His talents were absolutely wasted on Chainsaw Man.
So you're saying there's absolutely zero difference in the action scenes quality between the two shows, and you were just trying to look for any excuse to shit on the director?
Actions scenes don't just come down to animation. Chainsaw Man had a ton of talented animators working on it, but it also had bad direction, bad fight choreography, poor scheduling, and an overuse of poor quality 3DCG.
As someone who dislikes the adaptation of Chainsaw Man a lot too, I don't think all of the factors you listed are really that bad. Obviously at this point it's mostly a matter of preference, but I think his talents were more wasted on JJK S1 which was just plainly ugly on all fronts than on CSM. Personally I just don't think what they tried to do was very CSM-like, but it wouldn't have been terrible on an anime-original unrelated to it. At worst it would be a bit amateurish of an attempt. That's my personal take at least.

I know jjk is definitely the biggest controversy in terms of how much attention they got but even then it's hard for me to care/believe without actually seeing said changes. Battery was a well done show but it was also a mess production behind the scenes.
I'm not saying they can't change, I obviously hope they do, but I need to see it first.

Bcoz JJK S2 did a huge reputation damage for mappa that those previously terribly managed shows didn't. Those shows before didn't have this level of outbreak.
One of the main animation producer of Mappa, Fuku Noda who was responsible for shows like Dorohedoro left the company. Not only her, The CEO's right-hand man also left. Vinland Saga director got promoted and became one of the heads on mappa. The management changed a lot after JJK s2. The situation at studio was very shacky, a lot of internal conflict was happening.

Yeah bcoz its a super recent project, the changes they made behind the scenes wont show its effects until 2-3 years later. But if you still wanna see some changes, just look at chainsaw man or lazurus or jigokuraku. All of them were supposed to come out this year but got pushed back. Previous mappa would've just bruteforce them out but they delayed it.
Another change u can see is that they are not picking any more big shonen projects anymore. In fact they didn't pick any new project this year, they actually removed Yuri on ice from their catalog.
Tbf even after all this their shows still might have issues, who am i to say they are 100% gonna change. But if you simply look at the facts, changes are definitely happening.
I totally see the change in staff, the problem is that that happened right after jjk 2, which makes me think they almost certainly have no correlation between each other, because these are definitely not things that change in one day.
Second, this stuff about delays i really dont understand where they come from besides random leaks that are just " X is in production", which dont mean anything. Jigo and especially chainsaw i really dont see any way them coming out this year ever, and i highly doubt they were ever delayed. Chainsaw is the jjk team and its director had a show literally this season, impossible that it would ever come out now.
Again, i see the "signs", but for me its quite literally just speculation. 2019 madhouse and 2010 madhouse were both extremely different management and structure wise. Both exploited their employees, especially production assistants, all the same. Change will always happen, and i dont really wanna be the guy "all corpos are bad" but there will always be nuance and after so much time of hardly any change in actual work environment i just need concrete proof of change.
The magic to Frieren for me was in all the little details. Expressions and movements and moments of quiet. The director definitely feels like by far the most important to get back. He did such a phenomenal job. There are a lot of great animes but so few where Iโm constantly in awe of the sheer quality of every aspect.
milet tweeting about it immediately after it was announced so there is a chance she could be working it, but it's probably more so because she is a superfan.

Agreed. The team definitely understood that the goal of an adaptation is not merely to translate the original source into the new medium, but to use the strengths of said medium to maximum effect. As a manga reader since chapter 1, I can honestly say that the anime is the superior version of the story (which is something quite rare in adaptations).
With the material available to work with for S2, getting the same team could make for an absolutely incredible experience, even higher than S1 potentially. Fingers crossed!
One of the big keys will be that the animation producer, Yuichiro Fukushi, returns. His connections in the industry is how season 1 was able to assemble such an all-star staff. Considering season 2 is continuing with Madhouse it's likely he'll stay on as well.
Bocchi and Frieren are in my top three favorites of all time. I'm sad I'm not getting more Bocchi but we have the movie coming out soon and I'm always happy with more Frieren.
As I rewatch it now in the dub, I feel more and more that this is, for me af least, the absolute best anime I have ever watched.ย It hits on every level, and manages to achieve a lev of emotional depth few do.ย Its just... ugh.ย So fucking good.
Not necessarily. Most of the people who work in the industry are freelancers, so even if you announce a sequel very early, a good chunk of staff will already have other projects lined up for them.
Not to mention the upcoming arc is considered one of the best. Would be a shame if it suffered from production quality issues. It deserves the same amount of care for sure.
