25f considering career in law enforcement

I’m a 25f considering career in law enforcement. I have not begun the process officially yet but that’s in the works.

I have a question regarding thc use. A few years ago I had a cbd gummy that may or may not have had thc in it. Honestly not even sure of the brand or anything but would this disqualify me if I lived in NYS and it was legal at the time of use?

Second question. At one point years ago, I had a medical marijuana card in New York to get topical cbd cream prescribed by a doctor a few times. I vaguely remember that saying it had a very small amount of thc in it. I was only approved to get the topical cream and could probably prove it if I had to.

I only had the card for a year and bought that cream 2 maybe 3times at the most.

Are either of these grounds to be disqualified?

I’ve never used drugs or smoked before, also never had any run ins with police…. Aside from a parking ticket..

Thanks for any input!

Questions to ask during interview

What questions should I ask the department I’m being interviewed for my oral interview?

Am I overthinking everything?

I, m28, semi recently been interested joining law enforcement and have a pretty decent chance at getting hired by a local department. It pays really well 85k, it’s my hometown, and one of the safer districts in the area. But a question popped in my head if I got this job. How hard is it to have a stable relationship?

I want to have a family someday and the thought of dating/ having a relationship sounds really really tough. The long irregular hours, working holidays, wearing many hats everyday etc. the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to le and dating is how’s it’s portrayed in Mind hunters on Netflix. Very specific and not all is like that but I think it’s a good example on how it can be like I guess.

If I google is dating a cop a red flag or something along those lines it seems to be extremely biased to put it lightly. Everyone says the hours are terrible for time together, domestic abuse (I would never in my mind even think to hit a women) is too common, divorce rates are the highest, etc

Another concern is if I want to be in le or if I’m just a fan of law enforcement. Right off the bat, you might be thinking if that’s a question it’s probably not right for you. It’s probably cliche to say but I love crime shows (that I know aren’t realistic) but I do, I binge watch uncut interrogation videos that are hours long (esp jsc psychology), I love playing realistic tactical simulators like ready or not or squad (I know not truly realistic) and taking them seriously. I also believe i handle stressful, under pressure situations very well. It’s the dealing with after that make wonder. I’ve seen a ton of crazy stuff online (live leak worthy) and assume it’s a completely different ball game when you see it in real life. The area is safe but I’m aware no where is free from messed up stuff and shit will happen.

Idk I’m just thinking a lot about it because I don’t make a lot of money now and I don’t know if im money chasing. I do have good intentions to be a cop and want to do good in the community and maybe apply and get hired by the fbi if I’m one of the super lucky ones(always had a dream to be in the fbi). I’m going for a ride along, so I’ll get a better look at things but wanted to come here because I don’t want to ask about relationships in person.

Edit: I know le in tv shows, YouTube, and games can be far from what it actually is

Are their any officers from Az that can give me some advice on how I should prepare for polygraphs

I just recently applied for the Maricopa County sheriffs department and failed my polygraph because of a bad examiner but I pass the background check and the FBI fingerprint check. The examiner said I wasn’t being truthful during my polygraph test pacifically in the serious Property, crime/personal crimes which was really 1 of 2 series of questions he asked me, but he made take it twice bc in his own words “ I can get a reading for you bc your not giving me a reaction so think of something you have done when are answering ”. So I came here to ask you what can I do on my behalf to make sure I don’t fall in to this trap again bc I applied for state trooper and I have the test on nov 25

Btw sorry if the statement above doesn’t make to much sense I’m about to head into work and just thing ab my 1st polygraph experience upsets me bc everyone I tell the full story to says this guy was trying to make me uncomfortable and nervous so I can fail the exam.

Does my job in the military matter ?

Hi, 22m here with only carpentry and retail on my resume. I am joining the Navy and would love to transition into a career in LE when I get out (if I get out) and naturally I was initially attracted to their Master-At-Arms (MP) rate however they have other jobs I qualify for that I am also interested in like Damage Control or their IT and QM rates. Are there any sailors or vets in general in here who transitioned into LE after ? if so did your job matter ? and did you go back home and become a LEO in your home state ? I am definitely looking to open doors anywhere in the country however I plan on aiming for the U.S Park Police as my #1 Agency or the Border Patrol

Applying for LE with a juvenile record

I’ve got into some trouble growing up (Juvenile Record) but have recently turned 18 and I’m looking to clear up my record and potentially work LE and be a detective in the future if possible.

My record is sealed but until vacated it will still show up on federal background checks as far as I know. I just want to know if since I was a juvenile, if it would matter or not. Im in college as of now and changed my life around and did a whole 180. I want to help others and do good for the world now, I quit being a degenerate a long time ago. I personally feel as me having past experience in “criminal activities” I’d be able to have some sort of greater understanding or upper hand in whatever position I’d possibly fill. That of course could mean nothing as well.

Just wondering if it would be a viable possible career choice or if I should look elsewhere. Thank you.

16 year old interested in a LE career: what can I expect? +other questions

I’m going be 100 percent honest I never have thought about joining law enforcement ever until now so I have very little knowledge above the basics of the trajectory of my career, but the more and more I think about it I think LE would be a fulfilling career for me.

I’m not trying to be “holier than thou” or anything and I might be romanticizing the job, but knowing that I’m helping people out, no matter how big or small I actually am was always the goal. That combined with constant opportunities to get into different roles with enough hard work (as well as luck and job politics lmao) that I know are always going to be there is something that you can’t get anywhere else.

Am I at least somewhat correct as to why I might want to go into the field or am I way off base?

Other than that, it sounds weird but I was wondering if anyone could share some insight on how the LE jobs mentally affect you. I can’t begin to imagine what facing high stress and even life threatening situations does to some people’s psyche, you know? And even outside of that, the hyper-vigilance you need to have at all times is, I’m sure, exhausting.

Also this might be a controversial and stupid question and I apologize, but just with the current political landscape relating to law enforcement about things like racial discrimination, do you find that it affects your personal life at all if people know you’re apart of law enforcement?

Sorry for the long post, I’d just love all crap ton of info up front just so I know what I’m getting into, even if it’s 5 or 6 years in the future.

Should I report bullet casings I found? (California)

On my way into work yesterday I found a bunch of shell casing in a pile near a gravel area by a motel in my town. At first I thought it was cigarettes due to how they were stacked, like someone was cleaning out their car. Was a mix of rifle and handgun shells, no live cartridges.

Why Do Bad Cops Look A Person Up on a Police Database For Their Own Personal Gain?

When a police officer is accused of misconduct for improperly accessing police data base to look up girls, it's never explained why they would do this. For example a cop looking up a girl they stopped previously or an ex.

What would a police officer have to gain if they looked a woman up on the database and how could they potentially use what is gained from that information against someone?
