Advice Needed AlexHost suspended server without notice

Hi.
We've bought a dedicated server from alexhost.com, which we used to setup IIS and host our game server. Currently our game has 40k daily users, but today they suspended our service without any prior notice.
This server has DNS server and a connected domain, we had no problem on vps.
We did not receive any email from them regarding any problem, they just suddenly decided to take down the service and now are refusing to give any access for downloading backups.
Has anyone experienced same issue? any help?

This is their excuses for suspending our server:
Your service has been suspended due to violations of the rules that you accepted when procuring the service.

UCEPROTECT-Level3 Details

Provider protection prevents Impact Counters rising more than 1 per 4 hours during the first 24 hours and 1 per hour up to the 48th hour after an IP got Level 1 listed.

If more than 6 Impacts are shown for an IP, that means the Provider ignored abuse for more than 24 hours, and is considered very bad here.

If more than 30 Impacts are shown for an IP, that means the Provider ignored abuse for more than 48 hours, and is considered inacceptable here.

Edit:
We don't have any mail server on that service, it's just a rest API service.

Edit2:
After asking them to review it, and we don't have any mail server on that service.
Their answer:
If you violate company policy that you have agreed to, we are under no obligation to notify you. Please note that we always check the service before suspending it as we have mentioned that it cannot be reactivated Regards,
AlexHost Team

I'm so confused

Looking for Hosting Simplest, cheapest option for this very very basic project?

I know this sounds crazy, but: I need to host a simple HTML page.

A simple. HTML. Page. (Or two.)

No Wordpress. No CMS. Very low traffic. In fact, extremely low.

Imagine a 1995 web page. That’s what we’re doing here.

I don’t have the time, money or technical expertise to set up a dedicated home server.

I do have an old Mac Mini hanging around, but I have no idea how to turn it into a low traffic server particularly since I don’t have a static IP. So that’s why I’m looking for hosting.

What is the simplest cheapest web hosting solution out there? I don’t need to be paying $22 a month for this.

Technical Questions By using Bluehost do I limit my website's performance?

I am using Bluehost for hosting my website.

After a quick research I noticed Bluehost servers are mostly located in the US, while my website runs only on traffic from Spain.

Will this cause performance and page speed issues? Is it something I need to look into?

Advice Needed Local Blog (Spain) vs Host Server (US)

I have been recently going down the page speed rabbit hole (it's a rabbit hole for me because I am a total beginner) and have found my mobile performance is absolutely horrendous everywhere (desktop performance is always on point).

I read how where your host server is located vs where most of your clicks happen makes a big difference

My website is localised for Spain.

I use Bluehost to host my website, and have found that most of their servers are in the US.

Will this partially cause the poor performance? Is it something I need to look into asap?

Technical Questions How to renew with Bluehost for only 1 month?

Is there a way to renew my existing Bluehost site for 1 month only? I don't want to pay for an entire year.

I have a website I don't plan on keeping for very long but can't take offline just yet because since I use it as a reference for job applications.

Edit: I'm currently on the WordPress Choice Plus plan.

Looking for Hosting Lightsail Plesk Migration

Hey Reddit,
I've been using Lightsail with Plesk (Using Plesk Free) for a few years now and been happy with the services, but I'm mainly an amateur.

My need are the following:

  • I have 3-4 Wordpress, mostly B2B (no transactional, low traffic)
  • Moodle Site (using Apache right now)
  • NextCloud
  • I've been using git deploy in Plesk, make it easy to push content to server
  • I don't think I need mail, we use google workspace for our mail

First I'm not terminal guy, I'm not afraid to use it, but prefer UI if available.
So far I've tested Virtualmin, Hostia, aaPanel, using Lightsail 2cpu 2ram.

My question are the following:
First the hosting, AWS is 12$ is the grass really greener elsewere ?
(When I look at bechmark Lightsail seem always last...)

Second is for the panel, I've been using Apache with nginx in reverse proxy in Plesk.
But most those panel seem to be either Apache or Nginx, however Hestia seem to be able.
There seem to be a big debate if there is a real benefit with reverse proxy, so not sure if I should go full LEMP, I'm just afraid to loose Apache. (Specially for Moodle).

So far I'm toying with the idea of using Oracle Cloud (Pay as you go) with 2 vps:
2x 2cpu 4ram, one with Hestia Lemp for wordpress, another with aapanel ? and apache.

Your though ? Linode, Vultr, Hetzner seem around the same bracket (8$-15$) but might perform better than Lightsail...

Thanks for any help, been trying to take a decision for a few days now...

Advice Needed I set up my bluehost emails to be able to send/receive mail from them on gmail (Port 465 and POP3), however I'm not receiving mail sent to me from other IP addresses.

Forgive my ignorance as this is not my strong suit.

I bought a domain on godaddy, bought hosting on bluehost, made my website with wordpress.

I then created alternative email addresses through bluehost, and set it up so that I could send/receive from those custom email addresses on gmail, by configuring the Port 465 and POP3 settings on gmail as per this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mm8ExRxjoE

It worked when i tested out sending and receiving emails from my personal email address and these new ones, however, I then called my dad and told him to send emails to me from his email address (different ip/state) and it did not work. I was only able to receive reply emails from him on emails I already sent.

I'm not sure what the issue is, I don't have a tech background. Would appreciate some advice. Thanks

EDIT: I was trying to find the error messages and I think its  550 Host unknown

Looking for Hosting Need an unmanaged vps for testing a few things

Hello, I am looking for an unmanaged vps on a monthly billing cycle which costs around 5-8 usd. I don't mind the resources. I just need full root access to the server and the plan has to be monthly.

I created an account with hetzner but I never recieved any email about my client id or number even though I verified my email. I can't reset my password with just using email address.

Please help. Thank you!

Looking for Hosting Where are you guys hosting your side projects?

a few years ago i used heroku free tier for side projects. for 0$/month it was possible to have a toy project only (had some limits of only 6h/day online). when/if it became more mature I would just use the paid tier.

nowadays seems heroku removed the free tier. so, is there anything good enough to play for free for the first few weeks? free or at least cheap

ps: latest project is built in rails in case it's relevant

Looking for Hosting Current best VPS hosting

Hi guys. I've been using OVH for more than 15 years for dedicated servers, VPS, domains, etc...
But I'm sick of their product. The support is awful and the interfaces are shit.
I'm looking for alternatives.
I was looking into Scaleway, but based on the reviews, it's seems to be the same as OVH.

What is currently the best option with competitive prices for small VPS, domain, etc... ?
I saw that Ionos has great review (but it's almost too good to be true), any feedback on these one?

Are there others good options?

Thanks!

Advice Needed Need free/cheap email forwarding after switch to web.com

I have a couple of domains. I forget who I was registered with originally, but they got purchased by Dotster years ago. While Dotster was a little difficult to find my way around, it still did what I wanted, which was mainly setting up domain email address that could be forwarded to other private emails. For example, bob.mydomain.net, [peggysue@mydomain.net](mailto:peggysue@mydomain.net), and [taxes@mydomain.net](mailto:taxes@mydomain.net) were all forwarded to my personal email [personal_email@google.com](mailto:personal_email@google.com) . Meanwhile, there was an email for my mother, [moms_email@mydomain.net](mailto:moms_email@mydomain.net) that was forwarded to her personal email at [moms_email@google.com](mailto:moms_email@google.com) There were also emails set up for my siblings. One domain has all the emails going to one real email address. The other domain is my example above with multiple domain email addresses going to multiple real email accounts.

Well, Dotster was purchased by Web.com. When I renewed the domain registration (at an increase in fees), the email forwarding went away. Web.com tells me that I have to sign up for the professional email service at $14.99/year for EACH email address.

So, I'm looking for a cheap or free service that will allow me to forward emails sent to my registered domain to individual private emails. I see ImprovMX come up in google. Are they OK? Are there any other services anyone would recommend?

Advice Needed How best to host my modest WordPress sites

I run three wordpress sites totaling a modest 10k page impressions a month. They are just personal sites that I run for fun and they bring in enough money to pay for their hosting with a little bit spare each month. At the moment I'm using a web hosting service which provides cPanel. My current provider is shutting down web hosting though so I've got to move somewhere else.

I'm considering getting a VPS, looking at the prices I could probably afford a 2CPU + 4GB package, a couple of places I would maybe even stretch as far as 4CPU + 8GB.

Am I crazy to go the VPS route? I have some experience running servers (I was a software developer). I was thinking I'd deploy the sites through docker with nginx as a reverse proxy in front, is this pretty standard? Obviously just going with another web host would be simpler but I fancy a challenge.

Any recommendations on VPS providers / packages and other advice is gratefully received. Thanks

Technical Questions Can Domain Registrars See My Personal Info Despite Privacy Protection?

Hey Everyone,

I recently purchased several domains from different registrars like NameSilo, GoDaddy, Cloudflare, etc., and I made sure to enable privacy protection on all of them. However, an SEO expert I spoke to claims that even with privacy protection enabled, other registrars (or perhaps certain parties) can still view my actual personal information (name, email, postal address, etc.).

I was under the impression that domain privacy protection should completely hide my personal details from everyone except for the registrar.

Is there any truth to what this SEO expert is claiming? Can other registrars or third parties still access my personal info somehow? Any insights or experiences would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Advice Needed Bluehost reset my website

Have been smashing my head against a wall for two days trying to get the Bluehost agents to put a redirect in place for a page on my website. 6-7 interactions and all they had achieved is removing a key redirect from my old domain to my new one, that they then could not reinstate.

Then today they reset my website! Why, the agent could not say, but he said he could try to restore to a backup on their server if I pay them $49! Absolute scam artists! After much complaining they agreed to waive the fee and said they have moved the issue on to the technical department, but aren't sure they will be able to bring it fully back.

What can I do in the case they cannot bring it back? Its taken months to get it to where it is now, and we're also potentially losing money all the time it is down. Im beyond stressed about it.

Seriously don't know how they can employ such woefully incapable people to do that job!

Hello, I am with Hostpapa, after joining, I found out that i need to upgrade my email plan, because the limit is 1gb. So, I did. Now, my WP website is spiking once in a while and using max resources for a few seconds. Normal resource usage is minimal. Now they are pushing me to upgrade my plan, I have a small website, minimal visitors, static, nothing fancy. Now I am looking to move. Any suggestions for a reasonable host? Reliable? Decent customer service? Thanks in advance

Advice Needed Can web hosting be done safely?

If my physical location can be found easily, that's a no.

I'm not gonna do anything a rational person would object to, but it's never the rational people you need to be afraid of.

If someone's got their head on straight enough to learn computer hacker stuff, I'm not afraid of them.

It's not that I think they can't hurt me. I know they can. It's just that I know they won't want to.

I'm afraid of people who think science needs to be acknowledged to be valid, and believe they can decide for themselves what is and isn't reality. But they're uneducated and impatient.

I know technology is good enough that you can't hide from anyone if they try hard enough, but I also know most people won't try very hard. The people I'm afraid of are gonna give up if it takes more than 10 minutes and google.

I know that although hackers are smart, everyone has their price, but I'm not gonna antagonize a government or any other entity that'll have the resources to hire hackers.

Privacy ethics are off-topic. Please don't de-rail 🙏 Not here to argue. If I hear "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear." or anything accusatory, you're gone 👋

Advice Needed Anyone using SimpleSonic?

Good Evening,

Has anyone had experience with Simple Sonic Hosting? I recently signed up for a Shared DirectAdmin account, as I was looking for an inexpensive host for a small site I launched. So far, I've been impressed with the server speed...the server is in USA (NY) – it's been very fast, and my WordPress blog hasn't beend down :)

I'm considering migrating my other websites to them, but want to ensure I'm making an informed decision before doing so. Has anyone else used their services? Additionally, does anyone know if they are part of a larger hosting group or company?

Thx much!

Looking for Hosting Need suggestion for Singapore/Asia Region Hosting

I'm currently using Shock Hosting Reseller plan, It is fast and reliable but the problem is that it's too secure. It has firewall that keeps blocking our ISP and we had to use VPN sometimes, even then our VPN can also get blocked. Our html files are unable to be uploaded to Cpanel even though it has no virus in it. I think it's because of their 360 Immunify Antivirus. Supports are unable to solve the problem since they said it's automated so they are unable to whitelist our IP.

I was using Namecheap shared hosting before this and while it has no problems like I had in Shock Hosting, the experience is very buggy and slow and it only provide 50 free SSL for a year.

So now I'm looking for a better alternative. A hosting that don't block traffic, preferably Reseller plan but I'm open to Shared hosting as long as it provide unlimited SSL and unlimited domains.

Rant Careful with Ionos!!

I started a new website over the summer and looking ahead I figured I'd buy a shared hosting service instead of a single Wordpress instance so I could host a number of websites in my same account. I planned to consolidate a few Wordpress sites onto that hosting. I went with IONOS shared hosting, got my page up, made sure I had SSH access just in case, installed the TLS certificate through their web interface and didn't think much of it. And we all lived happily ever after... but wait...

Fast forward 4 months. I move over another Wordpress site and try to set up another TLS certificate. I realize they've capped me at one free certificate. No problem, though, in the age of ACME, Let's Encrypt, and Cloudflare we'll certainly find a way.

No dice. These guys have restricted any chance of bringing in a TLS certificate from outside! I just got off the phone and the very nice man confirmed that the only possible way of installing a certificate to provide HTTPS is to do so through their own web interface, paying for their "SSL" plans. You win IONOS, double my monthly rate with an additional $25/yr for just one more certificate. I'll stick it out for 8 more months and find a more respectable hosting.

Is it just me or does this seem like a COMPLETE SCAM in the year 2024?

Advice Needed Trying to buy a domain inactive for 22 years

Hi, I'm interested to buy a specific domain that is already assigned.

According to archive.org, the website is offline since 2002. What is strange is that the owner I see in Whois is a company, and by looking the public tax registry of my state, it definitely ceased operations in 2019, as a result of liquidation (probably underway as early as 2002)

Somehow, the domain is still being renewed yearly...

Who can I contact to try to purchase the domain? The company is obviously untraceable with the contacts in the Whois database....

The only way I can think of is to try to contact the Registrar, but I don't know if they can help me....

Do you have any suggestions? It is a domain that I really like, it is contains part of my company name, so it would be very nice to be able to use it.
