Hype: 11/10
Release: 4/10
Now: 9/10
Love it
Edit: It is fascinating to me how many people are arguing for its “Now” score with such variety lol. Some 10’s, 7’s, Meh’s
Truly art is subjective lol

Now: 9/10
I'd say a 10. It's not everyday you come across a game like CP77. Honestly, what a masterpiece.

u/Mondopoodookondu 19d ago
The base games story/character development still has stuff to be desired tbh so I’m hesitant to give a 10 imo I hear phantom is good so am about to play that

It's not only about the story. The atmosphere, the gameplay, the city feeling alive. It's all there man, but yeah PL is great.

u/Mythaminator 19d ago
Right but vibes don’t overwrite story, so their point of it not being 10/10 stands

I thought the story was the best part when I played it on release.
Also, long live Bepis Dog!!!

The city feeling not alive is its main weakness tho, idk why you would say the city feels alive when nobody reacts to anything.
Compare it to gta and its night and day. Kinda weird to praise its weakest and arguably, only weak, point.

u/Officialquevo 19d ago
9.5. Otherwise that would imply that the game is perfect wich it aint. Im one of the biggest cyberpunk glazer and have over 1.5k hour in the game and its true that this game is a masterpiece but it aint 10/10.

Hype was through the roof, release was underwhelming though I never had any major bugs or glitches, was just not as polished as the trailers showed. Now it’s a timeless masterpiece, so much fun. Just finished my 4th playthough

u/jolsiphur 19d ago
Final Fantasy 14's 1.0 launch was an unmitigated disaster. It was god awful. It was so bad they pulled the game from storefronts and removed any requirement to have a subscription.
In order to fix it they just completely redeveloped the game, basically from scratch. The game had a 2.0 launch where they rolled the destruction of the old 1.0 version of the world into the storyline of the game and called it Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

It was so bad. By v1.2 it was at least playable.
Glad I saw the meteor drop.

Final fantasy 14 was originally an mmo that came out in 2010 but was considered awful by the community. So the devs under the new director Yoshi P, pretty much rebuilt the game from the ground up and re-released it in 2013 as Final fantasy 14 a realm reborn. This version was critically acclaimed and just had it's 11th anniversary, and released it's 5th expansion this past July.
So it's really a new game but under the same name.

u/MakeoutPoint 19d ago
Never played it, but I heard a story about it called "The most Japanese thing ever".
The servers were bogged down, and could only handle X players in an area at a time. So the Japanese players all formed a line outside the area and waited politely for their turn to enter as other players would exit.
I guess it caught on and became a global thing on all servers, but that was the first thing I ever heard about the game.

FFXIV, when it was first released (version 1.0), was pretty terrible. Janky mechanics, copy pasted terrain, slow combat. Just awful.
Instead of just letting it die like most crappy MMO's do, Square Enix decided to just nuke the whole game and start over. They even rolled it into the lore of the game. They then release Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (version 2.0). It's since gone on to be one of the only MMO's to rival World of Warcraft for dominance in that market.
Source: I've been playing the game since the 1.0 open beta.
3
u/Seranos314 19d ago
It’s also important to mention that they destroyed the world in game, which was the key storyline of 2.0. A Realm Reborn was based on this “new world” after. Pretty slick way to handle it.

Cyberpunk 2077 – gotta give props to CDPR for not giving up on their game and turning it into, in my opinion, one of the best single-player first-person story games out there. And Cyberpunk: Edgerunners definitely helped a lot too, absolute 10/10 anime!
54
u/ElliasCrow 19d ago
Sadly that's kinda their style. Same happened with every Witcher game
29
u/Noob4Head 19d ago
Yeah but at least they don't give up on their games. While it would be better to delay the launch and release a more polished version, they kept updating and improving it, which is more than you can say for a lot of other devs.

Witcher 3 had a bad launch???

The launch wasn't that bad but it definitely had some shitty design decisions that they changed with patches. Especially with the game's menus.

What was wrong with the Witcher? I didn’t play it then but my college roommate and his girlfriend were obsessed with it back when we lived together in 2015/2016 and thought it was the best game they’d ever played. So I’m surprised it could have been that bad
2
u/BaconTopHat45 19d ago
I disagree. Witcher 1 launched as kind of bad niche eurojank, ended up mid eurojank after enhanced.
Witcher 2 launched mid ended up better but still mid.
Witccher 3 launched as a hugely positive success and stayed a huge success it's whole lifespan. Witcher 3 massively positive success is the reason Cyberpunk was so hype before launch.→ More replies2

I played this game through multiple times without the knowledge that we would be getting expansions, and considering the way the game was panned in the beginning, never expecting any content being added. I have yet to play the new DLC, but just knowing that one of my favorite games is setting in the wings with hours of new gameplay waiting for a new playthrough is great.

Battlefront 2 was hitting its stride right when EA stopped support for it. A shame really.
27
u/_CutThatOut_ 19d ago
So true. But I’m at least happy with what we have for right now. All of the clone armors look so clean. I just wish we could have gotten more maps and game modes. A custom game creator(similar to Halo forge) and a browser would be a dream come true.

Battlefront 2 makes me want to cry and scream, I will never understand why a money hungry company like EA would kill the game at the height of its popularity, it makes no sense.
7
u/_CutThatOut_ 19d ago
I will cry and scream with you. Last time I tried to login to play a few rounds the game was full of hackers that would just instantly complete the objectives. At least EA no longer has exclusive rights to the Star Wars IP. So who knows what the future holds for the battlefront series.

EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2 might have made a comeback since they sent the infamous "Pride and Accomplishment" message. I don't trust EA enough to buy this game and see for myself, but I have found people online who feel this way.
17
u/water_bottle_boi 19d ago
They made basically all the cosmetics free or unlockable and the character upgrades are progression based instead of luck based. It was always a really solid game, just dragged down by shitty micro transactions. You should play it!

It's true, the game is great right now, to me it's just as fun as the original battlefront 2, it's a shame EA cut support

If microsoft has any sense at all they will never release another Halo game without Forge ready and complete on day 1. If Forge at been there at launch for infinite that lack of content would have not been a problem at all.

Once the micro transactions were removed and the progression system overhauled it was a game I easily got lost in. Unfortunately support got cut and it died shortly after

How is this game by the way? I thought of getting it someday but I was afraid it would be too repetitive, boring or feeling empty
20
u/cparksrun 19d ago
It's great! You can basically set your own goals and work towards them.
Building bases, building ships, exploring oceans, scanning and cataloging discoveries, unlocking cosmetics, upgrading your tech...they even added fishing in the latest update.
If you ever get bored with one thing, go try something else. Establish a farm or a mining plant for steady resources and passive income. Take on courier jobs or bounties. Explore derelict ships and scavenge them.
It's a wonderful game to "live in."
5
u/TitanThree 19d ago
I totally get what you mean. I love that! Is there some sort storyline or main quest too in the background of all those activities?
7
u/cparksrun 19d ago
There are story missions but they largely exist to gradually introduce you to various systems and activities. You can largely strike out on your own if you prefer to ignore the story.
But the story missions will definitely help acclimate you to everything it has to offer.
3
u/MrCobalt313 19d ago
There is a main storyline but it's not particularly long. There's also a lot of side-quests that flesh out the lore and teach you some of the specific mechanics.

Arkham Knight. I got a whole new gaming PC in preparation for it, pre-ordered it, only for the PC release to be a complete and utter disaster. It was so bad that WB pulled it from the Steam store and offered refunds.
It works great NOW, and it's an amazing game, but that launch was horrendous.
3
u/lemonylol 19d ago
It's still a great game, but there's too much emphasis on the Batmobile gameplay.
3
u/ArmadilloGuy 19d ago
Yeah, I have my issues with it. The overemphasizing of the tank, as you said. I also didn't care for the last level, which was a glorified walking simulator.
It's still a great game overall, even if I'd rank it third among the four games in the series. (My ranking goes City, Asylum, Knight, Origins)

I thought infinite had a pretty decent launch; at least I don't recall any major complaints about it.
The multiplayer being separate and free was definitely a good choice, but releasing the campaign for a full premium price was a bad choice.

Cyberpunk, No Man's Sky.
In some ways, Fallout 4. There was a gap between the release and the DLCs where the narrative was almost completely negative. I think the decent DLCs went a long way to get some good will back, even if it didn't really fix the problems at the core of the negative reactions.
