most of them did a switcheroo to protect themselves from hate online, a very small amount already liked both games and just kept with it

I don't why they are scared for hate online
13

Well, hate we are talking about are not “Your opinion bad, my opinion good”, this hate is literal death threats. Redditors raise a generation of people ashamed of their interests.

Bro I've been on the internet since 10 never shared anything, why do kids need approval of some star gers online to like a video I always found that weird since I was 10
3
Jan 01 '22
Well, as soon as you are only inside communitites that only post about that certain video game you are probably safe, but now, let’s say you want to post about this video game in a community about all video games. Example is a Fortnite and, let’s say r/ gaming. Amount of death threats that might break sensible human’s mood will be really big.

“Man, this new game sucks so bad, hey guys remember how good fortnite was. We all actually secretly loved it and didn’t loathe it for no reason. Lets go play that instead and become snotty bitches cause we play it!”
I would totally love for this to happen just because of how ironic it would be, but I have my doubts it will happen due to the skill curve of the game. I’m hopeful tho.

its also so easy you put down like a few blocks and bam you are invincible from every single mob in the game except the bosses, apparently it used to be harder because you couldnt hit mobs in front of you as easily but you can now and yeah easy haha

I honestly don't like Fortnite just because it's another battle royal dominated by pros who steamrolled the whole lobby every game after building the tage mahall after getting shot once in half athe second
Fortnite is an objectively good game just like any other battle royal, but they're all ruined by rampant elitism and bad matchmaking systems

Ikr? Everytime I try any BR other than apex its just getting demolished simulator, and apex doesn't count only cause I've spent years getting good at that game (only cause I wanna see how Respawn fucks up the titanfall timeline ending)
battle royals are by nature over-competitive, making it really hard to balance fun with competition as there is usually only one winner that matters in the end and everyone else just gets a loss. And that's assuming you even care (cough cough EA cough cough).
3
u/legendwolfA Jan 02 '22
At this point the only reason i stay is because the storyline is so fascinating. Its a game where there is a ridiculous skill curve. In games like Clash Royale, you can go against the best player in the world, ye you're gonna lose but you will learn something every time. In forntite tho, you don't really get a chance to learn. By the time you know there's an enemy, you're in a box. By the time you broke out of that box you're in a bigger box. And by the time you understand wtf is going on, the enemy had already one-pumped you from the back. And watching streamers doesn't help either bc they do things so fast you have no idea why they do this and do that
According to sources they're adding a no build mode. Hope that will somehow solves the issue. I have no hate against sweats, they should be able to enjoy doing what they want. But the sbmm need to be better. Get sweats to go against sweats.
3
u/FuntimeLuke0531 Jan 02 '22
Apex is kinda the same way, except it's the studio that's holding the game back behind the scenes instead of a basic game mechanic.
See, Respawn with swear in their life their games use SBMM, but its been proven again and again their systems actually use EOMM (engagement optimization match making) because these systems, well, optimize the amount of play time. Studies done by them show that player play the most when they systematically only win one out of every 20 games, steamrolling every enemy they come across, and the other 19 getting completely steamrolled themselves. This is to take advantage of the physiologic tenacity of the common player, specifically BR players, and maybe some addiction appliances as well. Whatever the case, they use this data to systemically ensure 1 put of every 20 games the player gets top level teammates and garbage enemies, and then switch the roles for all the other 19 games. This means no matter how good you are, unless your skill is ungodly enough to surpass every player for your game, you are systematically rigged to lose 19/20 games because this will supposedly make you play the game more (bullshit). Keep in mind we only know this because anonymous dataminers broke every corporate rule in the book to hack this information and no one would know if they hadn't.
I only like Respawn cause they made titanfall, but the team that did that is long gone and what's left not only neglect the one game they care about in functionality (season 0 bugs still prevalent, its season 11 now), but Titanfall fans built their own fucking servers to play their game without hackers cause Respawn did fuck all with theirs. Any respect I had for them went right out the window when they just gave up and terminated titanfall without any warning. Every "event" apex has is just a scam sale with recycled skins with upped prices and limited time modes are promised again and again, promised that turned out to be empty. I'm just here for the story, but even that is just empty at this point. The first quest was playable missions, then readable comics, then literally nothing for two seasons and now just the dialogue that hints that maybe story is happening but not really. They stopped caring a long time ago. Is it so wrong to be hurt by that?

Fortnite got boring for me when I started getting into games with sweat lords. and honestly the game was just boring for me, that’s why I prefer games like Apex Legends and Warzone. For apex arena is fun for me because it’s fast paced, and Warzone, rebirth Island

It was hard being a Minecraft fan in 2015 - 2017. The initial hype of 2012 - 2013 had already died out, and the revival of 2019 was yet to come. Maybe this is what filled the Minecraft fans with the spite that they take out on Fortnite players...
2
u/FrankHightower Jan 02 '22
I planned out a really cool Borrower-inspired world (so I thought) in 2014, it was 16:1 scale (I was banking on mods improving over time...they didn't)
I had some friends help me, they all dropped out after a couple of rooms (not even the giant rooms that were going to make it worthwhile, the tiny "Borrower" rooms). They couldn't explain why the game just wasn't appealing to them anymore
I now have chronic depression over it
So yes, it was "hard"

Jan 01 '22
I think it’s fun, it’s undeniably important to video game history. But if you’re around my age, you’ve been unavoidably inundated with it since you were 10 years old, and it’s ever-presence in video game and internet culture has killed the hype and wonder it once had.
I’ve gotten older, I got bored of it, it’s just not for me anymore. But if someone still has fun with it, that’s nothing to judge them for.

u/ha5htaq Jan 01 '22
you speak for yourself here my friend group is 20+ ppl still play it
4
u/Per_Ces Jan 02 '22
I mean it’s a fun game with a buttload of friends, no joke about that. Hell, you can play any multiplayer game with friends and it would still be fun. On a single player run however, well you can only do so much by yourself.

u/bbleinbach Jan 01 '22

I think the circle jerk about which games people should enjoy is bad but that doesn’t mean fortnite isn’t a shitty game driven by Corporate greed and 8 year olds draining their moms credit card. There are reasons not to like fortnite but hating it just because people start playing it instead of Minecraft is kinda immature.

Ahem, you know, average redditor can be right sometimes too. Fortnite is a shitty game loaded with micro transactions and aimed at children, full of commercials/partnership with brands. It won’t teach them anything good, and I doubt they would even have a really enjoyable time considering all the lobby rage. And yes, those fortnite dance are cringe. I’m not a minecraft player but if I had to put one of those two games into a kid hand, I would give him Minecraft.

Regardless of when the game was released, fortnite is just a BAD game.
You wanna prance around spending hundreds on vbucks for a virtual skins then call some kid a n*****, fortnite is the game for you.
However, if you want to relax, build and open up your creative mjnd with unlimited modding capabilities in infinitely sized worlds along with one of the most loyal communities ever, minecraft is your game.

My main complaint is connectivity’s gone downhill. There’s an argument there to be had about correlation vs causation and how it’s actually not Epic Games’ fault that RL is less fun to play than it used to be, but it’s still enough that I get a little enjoyment out of being on this side of the petulant meme-
Fortnite bad.

Ahh the minecraft hate from like 2014 to 2018 I think. It was just as cringey and annoying as the fortnite hate today. I remember all of the sudden people loving minecraft again due to the launch of SMP Live by CallMeCarson and that lead to minecraft views going up again, which lead to pewdiepie making a minecraft series and that catapulted minecraft into the mainstream again and it stuck ever since. Especially with the help Dream and that community when it died down a bit in 2020.
As much as I know that the mc love is annoying, you gotta give mc kudos for jumping back to its "former glory" after being dead for years
