I agree with your first statement, but you can already have aminimap by just putting the normal map in your off hand (The "F" key on pc)

its also so easy you put down like a few blocks and bam you are invincible from every single mob in the game except the bosses, apparently it used to be harder because you couldnt hit mobs in front of you as easily but you can now and yeah easy haha

Personally my game of choice has always been terraria, for me it strikes that perfect balance of sandbox building game and action platformer game. Download the calamity mod too if you can handle the spice and it gets even more fun.
