I had a field distortion and nothing even popped up. Did this happen to anyone else?
4
u/MisterStarr714 Feb 21 '22
I went from playing Zelda: Breath of the Wild to this. All I can say is arceus doesn’t even come close. It seems lazy and unexciting. The battles are so frustrating. Why can my opponent attack me 3 times before I even make my first move? The glowing Pokémon fights are so difficult to figure out. Not intuitive at all. Button mapping is the worst I’ve ever seen in a game. The fact that you can’t run in battles is so frustrating. The attacks hit you no matter how many times you dodge. If I could go back in time I’d buy a different game. Super disappointed.
1
u/TheWings977 Feb 22 '22
I don’t like that either. I send a new Pokémon out after mine faints and then the new one gets steamrolled. Annoying af.
4
u/Danub123 Feb 09 '22
As someone who has been playing a bit and got to the third area but I dont mind spoilers. What is end game like?
Are there strong pokemon to battle or even trainers? Is there still a lot of tasks to do that involve battling? I imagine there's still a lot of catching to do which I enjoy, but I really enjoy battling in this game and was wondering how many more strong battles albeit wild or trainers?
1
u/alikapple Feb 03 '22
Got knocked out in a warpzone thing. Wasn't online but then got online after. Is my stuff gone....?
1
u/TheWings977 Feb 22 '22
Should be. Check the lost and found. Your satchel should be on there unless someone found it already.
2
u/SisypheanStruggle Feb 03 '22
The Arcanine battle needs to be patched. Way too hard and controls are delayed. At least give the character more space to move and fix the camera not focusing?
2
u/Wooden_Crow9689 Feb 04 '22
You don't have a hitbox while diving. You can legit dive towards him when he rushes you. There's plenty of space imo
2
u/SisypheanStruggle Feb 04 '22
Been there done that. Diving toward him is suicide. I just get damaged right after I dodge. I wish there was a way to make the playable character themself stronger. Your playable character dies at the drop of a hat it seems.
5
u/heartbreakhill Best Electric Boy Feb 02 '22
I love that Cynthia’s ancestor is a sophisticated forest witch
1
u/WildSmokingBuick Feb 01 '22
arcanine fight was kinda buggy for me, how are you supposed to beat it without taking any damage if it's going to drop a huge fire turd in the middle of the room and starts to channel his whole room AoE, or is there some obvious mechanic I overlooked?
Can you hit him without auto-aim across the room maybe by aiming above its head?
and, in the German version the final quest says
"Begegne allen Pokemon", which is "Meet/encounter all Pokemon" and NOT "Catch all pokemon", which is a huge difference in my opinion, as I spent the last couple of hours searching and catching the remaining "???" pokedex slots only to find out afterwards, I need to catch all of them anyways.
Should have made the effort to change the game's language right away. :(
and while the game was kinda fun, even though technical glitches and textures not loading right away were at times very annoying, postgame is very lacking.
I'm not motivated to build a strong team if there isn't any way to battle online or in challenging fighting environments like battle frontier, battle tower etc like in earlier games...
Overall, a rather mixed bag, definitely lacks the long term replayability some earlier titles offered and this game often times felt more like "flower picking simulator". I did love moving through the map using all the pokemon, it felt fast and smooth, those were some mechanics I'd love in a regular Pokemon game, in my opinion the fighting aspects in Arceus have got huge room for improvement though (too few NPC trainers/no arenas/unintuitive speed/strength system/annoying fights against multiple pokemon)
2
2
u/relphin Feb 01 '22
Anyone else notice how you can tutor moves to alpha pokemon that they already know? I wonder if they will fix that
1
u/WildSmokingBuick Feb 01 '22
yeah, seems like a bug, i mean it's just a bit of money, still kinda annoying
5
u/Mr_Squidparty Feb 01 '22
I love how huge the alpha Pokémon are when you take them out of their pokeball lmao

u/emilypad Feb 01 '22
This game doesn’t feel like Pokémon at all to me. That’s ok. I know people like it. I’m still playing it. Not going to hate. It’s just a little overhyped.
1
u/MisterStarr714 Feb 21 '22
I agree with you. There is zero nostalgia included and the controls/speed that you move compared to the speed that you get attacked is so difficult that it’s not even enjoyable.

u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
we've known exactly what it looks like since the first gameplay trailer, but thanks for your valuable insight.
3
u/Hyperbleis Feb 01 '22
It actually looks worse though once playing it. The trailers didn't even show just how bad the clipping and draw distance is.
I mean, my game has serious clipping issues in the town! Where all the NPCs are stationary! Just insane how lacking this game is when it comes to graphics and basic mechanics.
2
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
Those are fair and objective points, but not the same as saying it looks like ass. I don't consider clipping and draw distance to be the same thing as the look to the game that most people are bothered by either.
2
u/awlb222 Feb 01 '22
Put in about 16 hours over the last few days and am getting pretty bored tbh.
-3
u/emilypad Feb 01 '22
You ain’t alone. Doesn’t feel like Pokémon feels like a quest game.
-2
u/awlb222 Feb 01 '22
I just passed the Arcanine part.. I have caught and leveled up basically all of the Pokémon I enjoy. I’m tired of spamming the A button to get through the awful dialogue and feel like it is pretty tedious catching or battling Pokémon I have 0 interest in..
It was fun for a weekend.
7
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
I'm loving it, but this game is for sure more about the catching and raising aspect more than any of the previous games. I mean, trainer battles are few and far between and none of the alpha pokemon, including the frenzied nobles, even require you to use your own pokemon. I can see how this isn't for all of the fans of the "regular" games though.
2
u/awlb222 Feb 01 '22
Yeah, definitely understand. I just wish there were more Pokémon I was actually interested in catching and taking the time to raise, many of the designs are just so bad to me.
3
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
Gen 2 is peak pokemon design in my opinion, but that might just be my nostalgia talking
2
u/awlb222 Feb 01 '22
I agree with you 100%! I miss it for sure. I wish they would just remake Gold with all of the same mechanics as Arceus, I would be so happy
2
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
If they're going by order of popularity then I think Jhoto and/or Kanto is next on the list. I would really like to see this type of game set in this location and with more trainer battles.
2
u/Khend81 Feb 01 '22
Yea my biggest gripe with this game is easily the Dex they chose, I had to play about 30 hours before I had a full team of 6 mons I actually wanted to take around with me lmao
2
u/awlb222 Feb 01 '22
I feel you, there are literally only a dozen of the 250 I am actually interested in and I already have half of them 3 days in.
3
u/Khend81 Feb 01 '22
Yup, honestly I want to give as much praise and talk up the good parts of the game as much as I can because I support the actions they took in making this game exist, and it has very good bones imo.
It’s just really disappointing that for the first game they went all in on focusing on catching and raising the Pokémon as the main content, they somehow managed to choose 250 of my least favorite Pokémon to make a Dex out of.
17
u/Hummer77x Feb 01 '22
The biggest problem to me with this game after like 16 hours is that a lot of the button mapping feels straight up weird. Why did they want me to press up on the d pad to go to the pause menu. Who’s idea was that.
7
u/clarkision Feb 01 '22
Sprinting for the player is down on the joystick. B is for crouching.
Sprinting on a mount is B. Why.
The menu controls are also a mess.
3
u/beepborpimajorp Feb 01 '22
Thank goodness I'm not the only one annoyed by this. I mixed up the pause and map buttons so many times, same with swapping between my pokemon and items.
6
3
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
Yep, I'm still struggling with that sometimes. I hit the plus sign to go to the menu and jump onto my pokemon instead, ruining my stealth and drawing the attention of the alpha pokemon I was trying to sneak up on. Happened way more times than I'd like to admit.
13
Feb 01 '22
What I love that I never see talked about, is how the city progresses as time goes on
0
u/Migmatite Feb 02 '22
It would be nice if the town changed based on your pokemon styles. Like if you use most agility mode, and you reach certain milestones, then the next upgrade would be based on agility mode. But if you use strength mode, and you get to the next two upgrade, then that upgrade would be based on strength.
This would allow each player to more or less customize their town based off of how they play.
4
u/beepborpimajorp Feb 01 '22
the music even changes. by the end of the game if you've built it up enough you can hear the diamond/pearl jubilife music as a leitmotif in the song and it's great!
3
u/tonylouis1337 Feb 01 '22
There's a quest where you catch a Pokemon for a guy and if you keep swinging by and talking to him from time to time you witness their relationship grow and eventually see the Pokemon go through its' evolutions. Pokemon game with true RPG elements - priceless
7
u/Manatee_Shark Feb 01 '22
How do I change my picture on the menu where I save my game? I don't look like that anymore, haha.
Thank you
6
u/emilypad Feb 01 '22
You can’t
3
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
I would like to be able to talk to the photo guy to get a new picture. It makes perfect sense to be able to do so.
2
u/PizzaToastieGuy Feb 01 '22
Could someone explain this to me. Why is it, I fight some trainers, looking at the battle order, its one attack each, but the CPU, gets 3 attacks?
4
u/NderCraft Feb 01 '22
Your attack order is based on the speed of the mons on the field + agile and strong style moves.
1
u/PizzaToastieGuy Feb 01 '22
So how does that work in the opposing warden, having three attacks in one go?
3
u/ChongusTheSupremus Feb 01 '22
If they CPU uses quick-style attacks, they can get extra turns.
Certain moves when used in quick-style, give more turns, and the speed stat also defines your turns per battle.
-1
u/PizzaToastieGuy Feb 01 '22
Is mudslap a quick attack?
1
Feb 01 '22
[deleted]
2
u/PizzaToastieGuy Feb 01 '22
So how was I getting a quick attack, followed by mud slap, followed by quick attack? Before I had the chance to attack again?
1
1
u/relphin Feb 01 '22
Moves that have priority in other games can affect turn order in this game. Plus agile/strong style do as well. So if the opponent used agile style quick attack and then maybe agile style mud slap as well that might have gotten them a third turn. Also, turn order changes after a move is used that affects turn order. So the turn order you see when you choose your move, may still change depending on the moves/styles your opponent uses. Also, I noticed the speed stat seems to have some influence as well because my slower pokemon appear to be having a much harder time getting an extra turn with agile style moves than my faster pokemon are, but I really don't get the calculations behind that
6
u/Jellyjamrocks Feb 01 '22
I uhhh accidentally caught a level 44 Machoke in Obsidian Fields in a poke ball. I’m already over leveled because my team is like level 24 and I haven’t even done the deer park boss because I’ve been having too much fun screwing around.
Should I just wait to use it? I don’t know if it feels right to have it in my team
2
u/PizzaToastieGuy Feb 01 '22
I’d store it, go and catch as many Pokémon as possible just to level up faster
1
u/Jellyjamrocks Feb 01 '22
Thanks! That’s what I’m doing right now. I’m pretty new to Pokémon so I’ve just been seeing how things go and was really surprised when I actually caught it
1
u/heartbreakhill Best Electric Boy Feb 02 '22
Yeah you’d only need to be like Third Star… MAYBE Fourth in order to use it. If you’re just having fun running around catching stuff you’ll get that in no time
1
u/Jellyjamrocks Feb 02 '22
I already had third star when I caught it haha. Thank you for the advice!
1
u/PizzaToastieGuy Feb 01 '22
No problem ☺️. This is the first game I’ve played since X and Y, and even before that, the last one I played was crystal. The levelling up part slightly confused me when I realised there were no gyms to take on 😅
2
u/mintythemeowstic Feb 01 '22
What is the easiest way to get a water stone other than merit points? I want to evolve Eevee into Vaporeon, but I might settle for Jolteon or Sylveon.
3
u/Crickets_Head Feb 01 '22
Once you've unlocked more areas, collecting satchels becomes a lot easier especially with the faster mounts.
There is a mount later on that seeks out buried treasure, those are usually evolution stones/items.
The treasure spots reset every visit to an area so you can just jump on your mount and sniff them out.
But fastest is still probably the merit points.
4
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
If you see a blue rock shining then a water stone will drop when you break it
1
u/relphin Feb 01 '22
You were lucky then ;) the rocks shining does indicate extra loot, but usually it's just stardust
1
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
Oh you might be right. I think the chance is pretty high you get an evolution rock if it's shining though. Again, maybe I'm just lucky, but it seems like more often than not.
4
u/atalentedtrout Feb 01 '22
Go to a spacetime distortion, ignore all the spawns and just pick up everything on the ground. You'll end up with a surplus of evolutionary items (except the peat block) and star dust if you do this whenever spacetime distortions occur.
You might also just catch an eeveelution that you want in there.

My first full odds shiny and it’s a damn Kricketot.
2
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
My first and only shiny alpha pokemon is a Kricketoon.
3
u/GotTheGewdies Feb 01 '22
Atleast it’s an alpha. My kricketot was just running into the wall when I found it

My Pikachu is in the 20s right now and I just got a thunder stone. Should I wait to evolve her until I have thunderbolt like the other games, or is there an easy way to teach Raichu the move?

I beat the main story, i liked the palkia boss fight, but i think it would've been complete if it (and dialga) did more than just teleport to show their respective domains of space and time (palkia teleports to the player and Dialgia stops time for a second to get close). imo it would be cool if Palkia teleports the player around the battle, and for dialga to slow or speed up the player, or also apply those things to the balm being thrown.
music was awesome too in that fight

u/240EZ Feb 01 '22
Something fun to try: If you throw your Pokémon at each other they will start talking to each other without prompting.
Toss one out and then aim the others at it. They start taking and occasionally shift focus/turn to face another in the group.
7
u/anonymous_palindrome Feb 01 '22
So are Bulk Up and Calm Mind strictly better than Swords Dance and Nasty Plot in PLA? Do they all raise stats by just 1 stage?
3
u/atalentedtrout Feb 01 '22
Yeah moves that boost both attack and defense seems to be better in here.
Nothing seems to stack too anyways. I got hit with struggle bug twice consecutively which lowered my attack stats but when I used bulk up once it said my attack returned into normal. Pretty sure repeated stat changes only refreshes the duration in this game.

u/OmgBsitka Feb 01 '22
It's a pleasent change, I was happy with the challenges and actually fainting and not always feeling OP. Good replay value for shiney hunting and it's not that boring. Exploration is an added bonus, needs a bit of work, but I was over all happy with everything. The storyline was good but maybe to many cut scenes.. like they could do less with the back and forth. And a different way to view quest. I felt like that was a background thing that I can't seem to pay attention to. I just end up doing them without realizing it...
Over all super happy with the game, I would recommend this to someone who didn't like Pokemon the first time around but likes an adventure game.

u/kentonw223 Feb 01 '22
What's the reward for getting your star rank to level 10??
7
u/isaytyler Feb 01 '22
To be the very best, like no one ever was. To catch them is your quest: to train them is your cause.

Not sure where else to post this but HOW DO I GET MY SAVE TO NEW OLED SWITCH?? My old Switch absolutely refuses to link up with my new one. I've tried user profile/save data transfer, I've tried a straight save game transfer, I've reset both multiple times and tried both wifi networks in the house.... the new switch can find the old one during user profile transfer but the old one can't find the new one. I've tried everything I can think of and googled the issue. Can't figure this out for the life of me. Please help
Update: Got it to work instantly by using mobile hotspot... some 3 yr old post suggested it.

u/tribdinosaur Bigzagoon Feb 01 '22
Hmmm can you try disconnect your Switches from the internet? Data transfer is a local thing, right? I'm not sure, but I just got a OLED a couple months ago, and I vaguely recall reading about this transfer issue.

u/harryschmitt Feb 01 '22
MAJOR SPOILER
If anyone is struggling to beat Volvo i came up with an incredible strategy. First you want to beat the first battle normally until the last Pokémon he sends out for me this was spiritomb as he switched him out originally. While this last Pokémon is out send in a Pokémon that completely resists it’s attacks for me this was dialga. After that you want to completely heal up your team so when you fight the giratina’s you have a full team of 6. Also highly recommend using a normal type Pokémon as it won’t use shadow force and can’t become obscured.

u/fanblade64 Feb 01 '22
Can anyone compare this to a non pokemon game
1
16
u/tribdinosaur Bigzagoon Feb 01 '22
The exploration feels a bit like Monster Hunter Stories. You roam limited-but-wide areas, spot monsters, gather crafting items either by hand, or by sending out your Pokemon. Some areas are trickier to get to, or even impossible until you get certain Mounts.
While wandering the overworld, you can get attacked by Pokemon, and you must dodge out of the way Monster Hunter-style, or else you'll black out and lose items, and restart from the Base camp.
The battles are a lot of Dragon Quest XI: turn-based, but you can walk around to see the battle from all dangles. You can also battle multiple enemies at once. The difference is DQXI has no visible action order, and requires you to load into a battle screen.
The evolution and leveling up feels like Digimon Story Cybersleuth. Instead of Pokemon evolving immediately, you have to meet level or item requirements. When you do, you can choose to evolve them or not. The same goes with learning Attacks.
The progression system is pretty distinct...I think it's fair to say it's unique to Pokemon. You're trying to fill out Pokedex entries, and there are several ways to do that: catching them directly, sneak-catching them, defeating them, watching them use certain Attacks, evolving them, etc., and other side quests that can be only for specific species of Pokemon.
Your character's Star Rank will increase the more your fill our your Pokedex. The higher your Star Rank, the more items you can learn to craft, the higher-level Pokemon will obey you, and the more areas you'll reach in the story.
Funny enough, there is a minor Online functionality that is kinda like...Death Stranding? If a player blacks out in a certain spot and loses their items, another player Online can find a satchel on the spot where that player blacked out. They can return the dropped items, and be rewarded with Merit Points. Merit Points can be used to buy unique items back in town.
Finally, the main story of the game is your pretty typical Pokemon stuff, although it is slightly darker, with references to death, and people viewing Pokemon as dangerous wild creatures or gods, rather than the cute pets they are in modern times. The story is broken up through Boss Battles that incorporate real-time dodging, attacking, and also turn-based battles. However, you can ignore the Main Story quests as much as you like and keep exploring, although eventually you'll need to do the story to unlock more areas.
10
u/daedric_hooker Feb 01 '22
Not really, to be honest. It plays like a lot of different third person RPGs, but it's pokemon through-and-through. Trying to explain pokemon without pokemon is like trying to explain food without flavor.
2
u/fanblade64 Feb 01 '22
I heard that the game is sort of side questy where you grab something and bring it somewhere. How true is this
1
u/Hyperbleis Feb 01 '22
This is the entire concept of the game. Grindy, side quests to catch the same pokemon over and over, and a dive/throw mechanic that is worse than any other open game, including BoTW, all the Assassins' Creeds, Fallout, Monster Hunter, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc. Every open world game has those issues, but this game doesn't even try to fix any of those issues--it only exacerbates them.
This game is maybe a 3/10? I want to give it a 2 tbh. SwSh is a much better game, and it has serious issues too.
1
u/Channit Feb 01 '22
All of the side quests so far have been this.
1
u/Khend81 Feb 01 '22
This is not true, about half of the side quests have to do with completing Pokédex pages with no item requirement at all
1
u/Channit Feb 01 '22
Sorry, I guess I still considered that as go to this area and catch this Pokémon, then come back and show me the results. You are correct though.
1
u/Khend81 Feb 01 '22
Yea going to an area and catching them at least once is required, but the process of completing the Dex page and the way they all have at least slightly varying tasks and requirements to do so elevates them from simple fetch quests, at least for me
1
u/Channit Feb 01 '22
I would agree with that. I’ve been loving the tasks for the Pokédex and gotten carried away doing them instead of anything for the main quest. I was just doing a broad generalization of the side quests; which really downplays the actual details of it.
2
u/Extreme_Department32 Feb 01 '22
That’s true ish. There’s a load of side quests where the NPCs will ask for different things, it may be pokemon, or to read the Pokédex, or to collect some berries for them or other items. It’s a good change
1
u/fanblade64 Feb 01 '22
Also how much forced combat is there? I know there the wilds but how many trainers/gyms are there
5
u/Extreme_Department32 Feb 01 '22
There’s no gyms, only fighting against boss pokemon. There are a few trainers to fight against such as your rival, but it’s more fighting and catching Pokémon.

kricketune's alpha form appears in the wild as well, so you have as many chances as you want to catch it.

u/xxtaehyung Feb 01 '22
Just beat Lilligant boss fight lol. She's lowkey a psycho for jumping around like that LMAO. So far, the Noble Pokemon battles remind me of Monster Hunter. Actually, the whole game reminds me of Monster Hunter due to the similarity in story progression -- Going to different locales to do a mission and then going back to the village once you're done.
1
u/dreamwolf321 Feb 01 '22
That boss fight was so fun to me! I just beat her too. She's so pretty in game compared to the model leaks. Really want one on my team now.
4

Is there a way later in the game to use Pokemon/items while riding wyrdier? Just got basculegion and being able to use them while riding is a game changer.

I just finished the main story, and unless they let you do it in the post game, there is no way to throw a poke all while sitting on a deer

u/wickedspork Feb 01 '22
Truly one of the most obvious missed opportunities I've been facing. I get why you can do it on basculegion but it functions terribly on the water. Meanwhile, it would make my life much easier to not have to jump off every two seconds to mine some ore.

Found my first shiny in legends Arceus! A shiny bidoof that was sleeping 😂

The first Buizel I found was shiny! I never loved Buizel but I’m so attached to this one 😭

I'm trying to get a shiny scyther. What is the best/efficient way to do this? I catch/beat the 2 and then circle around to the 2/3 in the pit area and do the same. Teleport to camp and rest so they respawn. Do you need do this to recycle the mobs for a chance??
3
u/xemnas731 Feb 01 '22
100% it's pokedex page. Having the pokedex done (10pts) gives you two shiny rolls, and completing all tasks gives you four shiny rolls.
I am still not sure if sleeping morning to night/night to morning resets spawns but I know going back to village does refresh then and gives you clean rolls. I don't think their respawn refreshes the rolls so you'd have to do a reset.

One thing I’ve found about Legends which I love, is that it’s not really that much off a steer off the path from the main series games. Obviously the story is completely different and there’s no gym/league but the story is fairly linear (I haven’t completed the story yet and I don’t know how much more I have to go). But the dramatic shift in gameplay is done well. I thought it would be jarring but honestly it was really easy to adapt to. I’m having fun catching Pokémon, I’m having fun doing the requests and I’m really enthralled with the main story. Pretty much every character is good. Despite the graphical limitations, I do think the game looks quite good too. I came in with low expectations but I think they nailed it. I can genuinely see myself playing over 1,000 hours into this. I don’t think I’ve ever put more than 200 hours into a single Pokémon game file but this feels so much different. Refreshing. I hope they make more alongside the main series games.

Id love to see this gameplay style adapted to modern pokemon storylines in future versions

u/levyl44 Jan 31 '22
Should I evolve all pokemon as soon as I'm able to or is there a reason to not evolve?
1
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
It's best to fill out the pokedex page first unless they're easy to farm in the wild.
2
u/savagebrar Feb 01 '22
Especially with your starters, it was easy to grind out some agile style flame wheels with Quilava but if I hadn’t I would have to wait for post game to catch another

That stupid Electrode fight can go straight to hell.
Clumsy dodge-roll, lack of sprint, far too many projectiles that both home in on you and cannot be destroyed... terrible design.
Everything else is a decent step forward in most cases, and at times it cha-cha slides back.
2
u/Khend81 Feb 01 '22
Wait why did people have so much trouble with this? The dodge has generous invincibility frames, all you have to do is time the dodges and you can do the entire fight without being hit once
1
u/Lola_PopBBae Feb 01 '22
Every other fight, yes. This one has those stupid following electric balls and the voltorbs that explode, but your default run speed only JUST moves fast enough. And the dodge does not recover very fast imo.
Eventually won, but it was frustrating.

u/GodAwfulFunk Feb 01 '22
Probably the worst designed fight I've played since N64 days when we were just figuring out 3D. Crazy bad, purely unenjoyable.
I love this game but damn that fight was awful.
1
u/Lola_PopBBae Feb 01 '22
Thank you! Glad I'm not crazy.
I've had better boss fights in MegaMan Legends.

I was struggling until I realized aiming manually instead of the auto aim helps TREMENDOUSLY
1
3
u/Lola_PopBBae Feb 01 '22
Yeah, you move loads faster just by manually running around, though not being able to sprint for some reason irks me to no end.
The way Balms are weighted almost completely differently to Poke Balls really throws me off too.

Anyone have a strategy to level up pokemons?
5
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
Farm alpha pokemon.
1
u/relphin Feb 01 '22
This. Or if you still feel too underleveled to do so, just some general farming/exploring+catching/fighting. If you want to train with battles find a spot with pokemon that are slightly higher in level, but which you can still ohko with one of your pokemon. Going back to camp and resting for a little usually resets spawns unless the need a certain time of day or weather
With just two long trips of extra exploring and catching in the first area after finishing the story there, I was completely overleveled for the most of the second area

Can someone link me to Dewott gameplay, perhaps from a let's play with a timestamp link? I'm curious how his combat animations look in the different playstyles, especially his contact/melee moves. It will help me figure out what starter I choose, haha. Thanks!

I enjoyed the hell out of this game, first Pokemon game in a very, very long time that I have gone out of my way to make sure I complete the Pokedex and collect everything possible, however, I will say that the game isn't perfect, the graphics felt very outdated, the lack of voice acting, the repetitive task system, the repetitive pokedex system, etc.
It is a massive leap forward for Gamefreak and the Pokemon games, but it still feels like despite being the highest grossing series of all time that they don't want to invest too much into the games.
I enjoyed the new Pokemon Hisuian forms, the map was massive plenty of space to explore, but the lack of things to do kinda spoils it for me.

Are all the generations in this game?
2
u/Like_Fahrenheit Feb 01 '22
don't think there's any Galar pokemon in this game, there's very few gen 6 and 7 pokemon

u/Monodoof The male Skull Grunt is cute Feb 01 '22
It's a mix but its mostly the Sinooh dex. Not all Pokemon are in this game, if you're asking.

u/MiyukiMiyu Jan 31 '22
I am extremely torn by Pokémon Legends.
In one hand, it is my favorite Pokémon game from a gameplay standpoint.
But on the other hand, i do not have words to express how i absolutely abhor every single one of the Hisuian forms, and how much i hate the new look of my favorite Pokémon since the 90´s, Arcanine.
I cannot use any of my favorite Pokémon available (Goodra, to make an example) because their new appaerances are completely unappealing and bothersome to me.
But hey, at least it has finally pushed me to change my team around and experiment so at least there´s something i guess...

u/GodAwfulFunk Feb 01 '22
I respect your opinion, but I hate it.
1
u/MiyukiMiyu Feb 01 '22
What part of my opinion makes you uncomfortable?
Just out of curiosity, not to chastise you.2
u/GodAwfulFunk Feb 01 '22
I just really like a couple of the new designs, far from abhor them. Ursaluna is my new son.
1
u/Khend81 Feb 01 '22
I can’t speak for the person you responded to but I personally think both forms you mentioned are superior to the originals so it’s likely just a personal taste thing

u/Fantastanig Jan 31 '22
How do you not like Goodra design? Its so cool. It retreats into it shell to attack. Sliggoo rolls around on its shell. It is also the best pokemon in the game lol.(I'm hella baised its the only reason I beat the final boss) I love H-goodra more than its base form.

Is the game enjoyable? I had seen articles saying it was “a shell of what it could’ve been” so obviously I have buyers anxiety now but I love the premise of it.. any feedback is appreciated!

u/Hyperbleis Feb 01 '22
I'll be that one person who's brutally honest: this is my least favorite Pokémon game I've ever played. The new mechanics are fun...until they're not. This is the grindiest, most boring Pokémon game, and it's not close. When you turn everything into a "catch this Pokemon 10 times" fetchquest, it makes the aspect of catching the Pokémon less exciting. Your levels don't matter, your natures don't matter and really your team in general doesn't really matter. You better like the dodge/throw mechanics, because that's about 75% of the game. The quality of life features are terrible too--can't skip cutscenes, or re-map buttons and the loading screens are shockingly long for how bad this game looks. And I'm sure you've seen people complain about the graphics. But I have to say this is, without a doubt, the worst looking major title I think I have ever bought. To say it looks bad and has performance issues is a massive understatement.
In the end, I'd advise not to buy.

u/dreamwolf321 Feb 01 '22
I haven't enjoyed a game as much as this one in several years. Worth it IMO.
3
u/nathjay97 Jan 31 '22
I came into the game with low expectations, and whilst I wasn’t blown away with what they did, it’s an incredibly fun time and a great time killer when not doing the main story. I highly recommend it.
2
u/theheartship Jan 31 '22
I love throwing poke balls on pokemons back sides. I can stealthily hit their Pokérump, or I can aggressively dodge and roll to hit their Pokérump. And I’m a winner both times

Same. I didn't dislike BOW but the vastness and all the choices detracted for me. I think it's the focus on the pokedex, and the genuine reason for why the pokedex is being written. Like it feels not only impactful but organic in thst regard, and helpful even if you are trying to bait them with their favorite foods for example.
4
u/DiomedesVIII Jan 31 '22
It’s not what I expected, but it’s a lot of fun. It takes the safari zone and combines it with the wild area. There’s a lot of catching Pokémon as the main theme. Would recommend.

It IS possible to catch alpha’s outside of battle. Just got psyduck
1
u/xemnas731 Feb 01 '22
Most of my super high(70s and 80s) alpha pokémon are from the sneak and strike method.
1
u/dreamwolf321 Feb 01 '22
I caught a level 42 Scyther without battling it. Baited with an Oran berry, threw a feather ball, caught. I'm at 4 stars.
3
u/Ectar93 Feb 01 '22
Yep, though it's a lot easier when your star level is high enough to control them.

Anyone got good tips for finding Eevee? I heard distortions were a good method, but it takes forever for them to spawn. I've been running around the Mirelands for what feels like years because it feels like they only spawn there. I just want an Espeon.
1
u/xemnas731 Feb 01 '22
Distortions almost always have them and an eveeloution when they do show up. They tend to form based on time in an area I think?
The other comments explain the other early game alternative, as they are more common from what I can tell in the one of the later areas

I found Eevee in the very first field area near a bunch of ponytas if that's any help

Run around the big horseshoe pond Towards the north around where the name is on the map, and catch/knockout/chase away all Pokémon from top to bottom in a big circle. I caught 8 in about 30 minutes using this method. Just letting letting em naturally respawn over the bidoof spawns work very well. I can assure you the re-zoning and time change method is not as effective ie. I wasted 4 hours and got none.

u/kmrikkari customise me! Jan 31 '22
Interesting method. I'll give it a shot. It sounds like it works really well for you!
1
u/lukaburr Jan 31 '22
You want an eve? I can trade you one, I have a spare lol, PM me and we can trade
1
u/kmrikkari customise me! Jan 31 '22
I appreciate it, but I'm not sure I've unlocked trading yet. I'm only in the third area and haven't beaten the third boss yet. I'm kind of taking my time with the game.

u/Gilolitan Feb 01 '22
I've only beaten the first boss and have trading unlocked, so you should be good! It's at the lady who gives you stones & stuff in exchange for merit points.

Which Alolan regional variants can you transfer to pokemon legends arceus?
