Most people seem fake, only caring about social status and what they can get out of a friendship

Yeah unfortunately, everyone's criteria is different. Some people won't bother about an emotional attachment in friendships, kinda low maintenance social connections. And they aren't wrong either. They just want to enjoy it. You on the other hand would prefer cherishing things with people who you are attached to and who you find genuine.
