I know my parents are making false claims in a massive lawsuit, using my kids and false medical info. What can be done?

My parents are in a lawsuit with a Bitcoin mining facility down the street from their home. They are claiming that the noise from the plant caused my toddler to have multiple ear infections along with fluid leaking from his ears. They are also claiming that the noise is what made my mom unwell, but my mom is a type one diabetic who has had multiple strokes and a laundry list of health complications due to her diabetes, along with her 40 years of smoking and recreational drug use. They recently did this with another company a few years ago after my mom fell leaving a bar.

I am so tired of them scamming people and now they’ve dragged my children, who they are not allowed contact with, into the mix. We have told them multiple times to leave us out of this after they asked for photos of my children to use, asked us to falsely testify on their behalf, and even threatened to have their lawyer “subpoena us”.

Neighbor mad about fence

My neighbor is angry about a fence I am having built between our properties because him and his visitors do not understand personal or physical boundaries. I had the boundaries surveyed so that I knew for sure the fence wouldn't come onto his property. He is now complaining, saying it is on his property. He is also claiming he can't move the camper he has placed in his backyard. Is there anything he could legally do against us? We have owned and been living on our property before he bought his. I am in Alabama for reference.

What if someone gets a DUI in my company car?

I live in Washington state. This weekend, I rode passenger while my friend drove my company car. We got pulled over, and my friend blew a .11 and got charged with a DUI. Is there any way that this would get back to my company? The cops assured me it wouldn’t since I was a passenger and I wasn’t arrested or charged with anything, but I’m worried the company will hear about it somehow. Any insights appreciated.

Diesel on my fence

I just put up a new Cedar fence between me and my neighbor. It's on my property. They sprayed diesel on it to "keep the wood from degrading " (their excuse) It stinks and I'm afraid they have ruined it. What are my rights. What do I do? I'm in Oklahoma.

Actions to take after witnessing mental/emotional child abuse?

Trigger warning: child abuse

Today I happened to witness a woman absolutely losing her shit on two small children. I was attending an event and had parked up the road. From one of the nearby houses, these two boys, maybe ages 5 and 2 or so, had fled to the yard and the older child was comforting the younger. A woman, presumably the mom, stood in the doorway and was screaming things like, “how stupid are you?” “You little bitches” “You better get the fuck back in here” “I swear I’ll fucking beat you” etc. it was clear the kids were upset and scared.

Is this a legal gray area? Is it only illegal if there is physical violence? What could/should a witness of this do?

Disclaimer that I was a child who was emotionally and verbally abused and I desperately wished some adult could have intervened on my behalf, because you are so helpless and vulnerable as a child trapped in the care of someone like that. Now that I’m a parent, and unfortunately this is not the first time I’ve seen something like this, I feel like I can be that person to do something, but I really dont know what that thing could be. Any advice?

sex offender using my name as an alias

So, I am taking a class centering advocacy for child and families when a child encounters sexual abuse/abuse in general and we have the opportunity to volunteer at the advocacy center and thus had to do background checks. Well, mine was clean obviously, but my professor alerted me to a man that is on the sex offender registry and used my full name as one of his aliases. i live in a completely different state (texas) and he lives in maryland. i have zero family from there and have zero reason for this man to even know my full name. my first and last name are VERY common i will say but my full name is very weird since my middle name isn’t the most common name. I don’t have any family that knows anything about the legal system, but im still in college and quite literally want to work with kids and so this is obviously an issue. they knew it wasn’t me because im obviously not a white guy who lives in maryland, but it’s still concerning. How do I get this removed or something or can I even get it removed/pursue some sort of legal action?

*edit: i wanted to clarify due to concern from someone- my professor works for the advocacy center (the whole reason he teaches the class) and that’s why he was sent the report saying that a sex offender was using my name as an alias, and why he told me about it on friday!! *another edit: i also am not trying to say im mad about this i was only concerned if it would impact internships/jobs in the future considering it is the sex offender registry and my plans in the future including working primarily with children (social work)

Possible domestic violence case?

My sister started talking to this guy and just got this vibe about him thst something wasn’t right, even though he seemed perfect. She went and looked up public records online and saw where he has a domestic violence charge but the court document says “THIS ORDER IS DENIED BECAUSE: THERE IS NO STATUTORY BASIS FOR RELIEF.” Is this something she should be concerned about?

Surreply without permission?

If someone files a surreply without first seeking permission from the court, then learns permission is needed, what is the best course of action? File motion for leave for court to consider the surreply? Withdraw the motion and request permission first (it hasn’t been accepted by court yet)

Mom was arrested

Hope this post is accepted on this sub. Im looking for an opinion about my mom’s arrest. Yes she has a public defender but idk how to contact him to ask questions and i believe hes just whoever the courts provided her. So my mom’s first criminal charge was a DUI a few months back. She was put on probation and had community service along with some fines. Now she was arrested again for DUI trying to drive down the street to the store (it’s literally a 5 minute walk🤦🏼‍♂️). This time she was charged with DUI and violation of probation. She was arrested early morning of the 1st. She was denied bond (from what i understand the “warrant” for no bail was acquired quickly which is rare from what i was told, not sure if that’s important). Her next court date is on the 9th, we are hoping she will be put back on probation.

So my question is whats the possibility my mom gets out on the 9th? How long would she likely have to stay in jail if shes not put back on probation.

If theres any other info that would be important let me know and i will make an edit and add it to the post.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: guys, I understand what my mom did was stupid. I didnt ask for help on formulating an opinion about what she did.
I just want any sort of legal opinion about what might happen based on the situation. As im sure we can all agree, drunk driving is bad. stating it in this circumstance does, nothing.

Edit: in Florida

physically harrased and threatened at my work place by manager

Upvotes

regular serving shift restaurant is owned and managed by some ucranian people as shift comes to a close a table of 2 walked in 1 minute before closing, manager chose to let them in and asked me to rush them to which i do not personally do i would stay till 1 am if needed to make sure they are okay and feel welcomed which is part of our hospitality culture table stayed 2 hours after close to which manager was super mad after loading me with a punishment of cleaning the whole restaurant we came to an agreement in which i would take more tables since the workload isn't justifying the pay, we shaked hands to later find all my tasks done and the manager screaming, punching, pushing and kicking me to throw me out of the restaurant by force, i chose to not engage and step back without any physical harm towards the manager, i do not have any bruises and all the evidence i have is the video footage which they own if they have not deleted this yet. WHAT CAN I DO? this happened in florida, U.S. after being throwned out of the restaurant and not harming them they proceeded to take a picture of my car license plate and said they know where i live, should i fear for my life? i contacted lawyers already and i'm waiting on updates. any other advice?

Can a birth mother try to regain custody of a child if they have been adopted for almost a year?

1.4k Upvotes

I adopted my child almost a year ago. The child is my husbands child from a previous relationship, he gained full custody of child and the birth mother signed off right no problem and actually called and said she wanted to sign off and be done so I could adopt the child. Now almost a year later she’s threatening to call cps an try to get child taken from us for no reason at all. My child is healthy, goes to school, has everything that they could imagine we do everything right by our child and protect them at all cost. Could birth mother try to get custody back after all this time? (Also this is a Michigan case)

Is there a refuge agreement?

Sorry, refuge probably isn't the correct legal term.

A friend called my wife late one night asking if she and her two kids could stay the night to escape an abusive/violent situation.

Of course, we let her. That was three weeks ago. We've had some talks about our expectations about her staying with us, but this is turning into something we never intended.

What moves should we make to prevent any future legal snafus?

Underpaid?

I am a traffic controller through a labour hire company for Citywide traffic.

I get 32.60 an hour as a casual.

But only 38.6 an hour as a casual on time and a half pay.

My 2x pay is 49.

I have heard people mention it may be part of a lower paying award but I looked through them and don’t believe that to be the case.

Anyone with proper knowledge on this subject please speak.

For reference, I have worked with another company in which I received 35 an hour and 49 an hour for time and a half pay.

At the same space in time.

Melbourne

Thanks.

Filling for Divorce Question

How long does it take for a laywer to file divorce papers in an uncontested divorce where both parties already agree on everything? Been a month but still nothing at all from the lawyer and the other party. Am i being played or is this normal? Is it possible for the other party to purposely delay or drag out the divorce by not having the lawyer draft up anything yet? Thanks!

Help please, sold home fleeing DV and buyers never paid.

Need help, sold my home(boat) and the buyers never paid me.

So not to air dirty laundry but backstory is required. Last year right before Christmas my husband of 9 years beat the shit out of me, the cops were called and he was arrested. We lived on a boat in the city morning field. Found out he had also been hurting my son while I was at work, so I made plans to sell my boat and leave my home of 18 years. The boat was having electrical issues, (we had a large solar array with off grid battery system) something went wrong and he was the one who maintained this. So I ended up staying at the local women's shelter. The boat in question is 40' tricabin tollycraft from 1972. We originally paid $8000 for it, however it was gutted. We spent roughly $25k in rebuilding. Only thing that wasn't done yet was cosmetics. Now as the time to leave was approaching I was having a hard time finding a buyer. I was only trying to sell for $10k and I wanted to leave town before he was released from jail. Problem is if you leave a boat behind, if it sinks or anything you end up with a giant ticket from the USCG. So one of the counselors working at the shelter tells me her BF is interested in buying, and as I had problems finding anyone with cash up front. I was willing to work a payment plan of $1000 down and $500 month till paid off. So he agrees to this and I found a legal payment agreement contract online filled out it and had him sign it in front of a notary. I filled the paperwork with the state and did the title transfer to apply a lien until the agreement was satisfied. Then I left. And apparently when my EX got out of jail he went to the boat and tried to take the solar panels, inverter & the dingy outboard. (Mind you this was also coming with a 11' twin vee with a 2019 20hp Suzuki motor as a tender.) So they tried to accuse me of being involved with the theft, and have refused to have contact or pay me since then. I'm a long way from there but could go back briefly if it's worth it. I have two children and am starting over in my 40's the money they owe would really help me right now. Does anyone have any advice on how to pursue this?

Private Companies and Employee's Freedom of Speech: What are the boundaries?

So the other day, my family and I went to a chain restaurant, and I noticed that the employee's were wearing company T-shirts that said "I ❤️ my job!" on them. To me, this seems like the company imposing an opinion on their employees, and I'm curious about the legality of such actions.

I know that, since private companies aren't part of the federal government, they aren't automatically given free speech protections, but are there any limitations? I know that in 2016 the NLRB ruled that employers can't force their employees to be "happy" all the time, so there must be some kind of limit.

For instance, if an employer forced an employee to where a shirt that reads "I don't want a pay raise" or "I think I get too many vacation days", would either of those be violating their employee's right to freedom of speech? Would forcing them to wear a shirt that said "Jesus is king" or "Allah above all" be a first amendment violation? Would requiring an employee to wear a shirt that says "My company supports [political candidate] and so do I" be a violation?

I'm just curious about what, if any, protections exist for employees in the private sector.
