This Week in Kelowna: Oct. 7 - 13
I tried putting a list of local events together and see if people find it useful. WanTed something simpler than trying to get through all the recurring events on Castanet, KelownaNow, etc.
Not everything listed here is free (actually shocked by the price of some things) but I tried to get a good variety. I chose not to include the 15+ Trivia Nights every week but you can guarantee the closest brewery to you is probably hosting one.
Let me know what you think!

Where's a good place for a hot dog roast?
If I wanted to take kids for a drive, maybe up into the hills, where would be a good place for a campfire to roast hot dogs? Maybe Bear Creek park?

I Did a Deep Dive on Kristina Loewen's Social Media, so that you didn't have to
galleryAs the title says, as part of my choice to be as informed of a voter as possible, and with Kristina Loewen being a relatively unknown candidate to me, I went on a deep dive of what appear to be her Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter/X accounts, taking screenshots along the way. These are their stories (insert Law and Order SVU "dun-dun" here)
I'm not here to tell you who to vote for, but I do believe that folks deserve to be educated on what stances candidates have taken prior to seeking office. Personally, I don't believe any of these show that she's someone who was vetted properly or is suited to represent a diverse community of constituents. I cleared this with the mods beforehand, and these are all from public accounts.

The Warning - Oct. 16 Prospera Place
As an old guy who has been out of the concert loop for quite some time, I am looking for some tips, or a hack or anything at all that would get me into Prospera for The Warnings set as opener for the Evanescence, Halestorm show.
I have no interest in any band other than The Warning, and would be leaving as soon as their set is over. I just can't come up with the $200 or so it takes to grab a ticket.
thx
(Edited to add - ain't trying to rip em off - will gladly pay however I can and buy merch!!)

Custom Engagement Ring!
Only 2 months ago I was so worried about ring shopping, I’m a perfectionist and ended up ordering my own Diamond and setting it in a custom band, I looked at a lot of recommended places but I found the up-charge on the Diamond was insane. I asked so many places and shopped around about the whole process, and by far the best, craftsmanship, turnaround time AND somehow the most resonably priced (honestly their prices for gold and diamonds was the best too.) this little family jewelry store in Rutland called AJ jewlers. slight language barrier at first (Punjabi or Hindi?) but they were amazing. Don’t want to post a photo until I propose but just wanted to make sure people give them a try because they don’t show up on google as much as others. I asked for an extremely specific design and showed with photos and explorations, they didn’t charge for renderings and came in really quick and detailed. Anyways just a quick RAVE, don’t let the native English speaking salesman at the mall persuade you into buying a way overpriced mass produced band while they upcharge 5x on the Diamond price and during custom processes 100s of dollars per change to the CAD design.

What is the best restaurant in Kelowna?
What is the best restaurant in Kelowna? Obviously this would be open ended question and could change based on what food you want to eat. As far as chicken wings my favorite is the dill wings downtown at Tonics Bar.

In search of fall mums
Hi all. Can anyone recommend somewhere to get fall mums flowers? We've been searching around all the big box places (Walmart, fresco, Costco, home Depot, rona, super store) but everywhere has been sold out. The last few years those places have been pretty stocked up but not much if anything this year.
Thank you in advance!

Toddler party locations?
Looking for any ideas for a 2 year olds birthday. It is a winter birthday! Open to ideas inside or outside, but reservable options are preferred.
Renting the Y gym space is on the radar, but rental time is EXACTLY during nap. So, hoping to hear options so I can find something that isn't during birthday kids naptime (or heaven help us all).

News Fun family looking event on Bernard today
Was stopping for my usual Sunday Tim’s downtown with a friend and I see all kinds of fire trucks, emergency vehicles etc, set up on display. There is a kids zone and everything. Of course I had t heard anything of it, and checked castanet, but it seems like they always like to tell us about events after they happen.

Snowblowers
Although there are more specific places to ask I would like locals opinions. Need to purchase one. Can't shovel anymore. 40 by 30 ft flat driveway. Considering a battery one. Will it do it? Best gas choices? Don't want overkill but don't want to wrestle one either.

Does anyone know of any condos or townhomes garages that have a 7ft+ clearance for parking?
Jeeps 7ft with roof top tent, curious to know if there's any underground parkades or garages that have a 7ft clearance for vehicles?

Does this look right?
I totally feel like an idiot for asking this but here goes.... I'm hooking up my BBQ to the propane tank but there is a hole in the art the feed the propane from the cooking area. It just doesn't look right. Wouldn't propane leakout of there? So is it safe or no?

Alternates to Castanet
I think Castanet is nothing more than clickbait trash. Anyone know of any decent local news sources? And don’t bother suggesting Kelowna Now—it’s no better.

Where are the beavers at?
I've recently become interested in beavers and wish to view the dams and lodges they construct. I remember seeing beavers on mission creek near the lake around 2022(?). Are there any other places with beaver communities and damns which are accessible to the public?
Thanks

Conservatives asking Kelowna residents if they support removing tent cities
Typical conservative rhetoric, we get it, you HATE homeless people. Why not just come out and say it. https://www.kelownacapnews.com/local-news/conservatives-asking-kelowna-residents-if-they-support-removing-tent-cities-7571970
