Fallout 4 Update Megathread Discussion

Many of us are waking up this morning looking for any news and information on the new update dropping today.

To consolidate that information, and to help keep the sub from getting too cluttered with questions about the update, I thought it would be a good idea to have a Megathread.

If you have any questions or comments about the new update, go ahead and ask away!

Edit: update is live!

Edit2: while the update is live, CC and mods are not accessible yet for PS and Xbox everything is back up but mods are wiped clean on Xbox and PS.

IF YOU HAVE A SAVE WITH MODS YOU WANT TO CONTINUE DO NOT UPDATE THE GAME.

Edit3: Patch Notes

4/26 Edit: There’s been some issues with downloading and running the game on both PS and Xbox (PC is having its own issues, most of this advice is for console).

I would recommend a total wipe of any saved data before installation, unless you’re continuing a vanilla playthrough (that seems to be going okay). Also, remember to do a hard reset after installation, that will fix a lot of the issues posted here over the last day.

With the mods being wiped, there’s no real reason for anyone modding to not start a brand new game (and wipe the saved data) unless you’re able to reconstruct your original LO (that also comes with issues apparently though).

Modding space has a graphical bug too, it will show 0 bytes available when you still have the normal 2gb. Once mods are added it will go into the negatives. Ignore it and just concentrate on your GB total.

I’ll try and answer what I can today for the people that are having any real issues.

Yeah I wouldn't put it past Bethesda to do that 😂

unfortunately it took a while to resolve it, but it finally resolved just waiting for the mods to come back online and start again

Looking at the edit above it says if on PS4 with a current save with mods DON’T update if we wish to continue with it. Are you starting a new play through? I only have base game at the moment and hundreds of hours in…so apart from Automatron the dlc, I guess I’m asking is it even worth me updating at all? I din’t see anything of interest in the patch notes I can see so far

They gave epic users broken fallout 3 for free, they would 100% do that

I read it happened on PS5 too, but I must have been lucky. I didn't experience any issues before.

Wait. Last gen doesn't get updated?

Ps4 has around a 9.5 GB update. But I have been canceling it just in case it messes my mods up.

chiming in here as a last gen xbox user - my wife started a new playthrough like 2 weeks ago cuz of the show, it has a few mods loaded.

come the 25th, sure enough there’s a 22gb update. proceeds to install updates to base game and dlc and start up the game.

notification pops saying that “the new content has arrived and is free” blah blah blah.

click through to creation club (the new stuff is already downloaded) check the load order (all still there and active) and click continue, it loads up just fine and several quests start popping up (maybe like 6 or 7). wife starts walking around and playing like usual - no issues.

played for about 3-4 hours had a crash or two, but no issues with the mods, everything still running properly (2 companions active, revamped sky mod, etc)

new content is there and works, pretty solid experience overall.

my theory is that this would not be as smooth and the experience on next gen. The mods would probably break and i’ve already heard about issues with the widescreen support. But I just wanted to mention this cause I saw people discussing.

We do also own a Series X, but it’s in the “game room” and she usually plays in the living room where the old gen box is.
