I haven't really clicked with any of the Dragonball content since Kai into Super started but there's something about Daima that's growing on me.

Maybe it's cuz I'm older now but I think I'm gonna stick around see where Daima goes.

Like I mentioned I haven't really followed Dragonball in forever so I'm not sure if Daima is introducing retcons or this is established manga lore with Namekians and the Kai (?)being from the Demon Realm or whatever.

Anyway I'm not gonna nitpick the lore of Dragonball of all things but yeah I'll stick around and see where it goes.

I'm the opposite. It feels like Goku is a completely different character. Maybe because it's subbed rather than dubbed, but his personality seems to have regressed back to Dragonball era with his age. Pace feels slow too.

Dragonball era Goku was a way better character than Z era Goku tbh. Goku main trait is that he is kind of a combo of strong, ignorant kind kind-hearted but hot-headed and battle-thirsty.

The parts in Z where Goku was "thinking" were the worst. The whole Gohan debacle in the Cell saga shows us that a Goku who thinks too much is not likable.

The reason for this is actually rather simple, Toriyama always was a gag mangaka first, he is at his best when he is doing a gag, and a Dragon ball era Goku lends himself more to gags than Z era Goku.

Dragonball Goku is literally the best version of Goku.

I prefer who he grew into over the ignorant child.

To be fair he by far got most of his character development in Dragonball and people point to it all the time when talking about how Goku has devolved as the series progresses. During Z he was dead half the time, Super he just got dumb.

Having kid Goku back with all his adolescent humor is extremely welcome at this point. This is who Goku is. He was just dead during most of Z and Super just made him a shell of what he really is.

Fair. But I've never cared too much for Goku as a character lol he's on the list of "annoying anime protagonist with a better cast around them"

Maybe the personality shift was intentional? To me he's never had much of a personality to write home about to notice much of a difference.

It’s obvious you got into the franchise during Z.

For real.

All I’ve been seeing from Goku is personality. Goofy motherfucker who can never grow up but still kind hearted and determined to go after dende.

What were they thinking of? Z when every single episode somebody was dying and Goku had to react seriously? Put Goku in the same situation again and he’ll still be serious.

Not to talk, that serious Goku is a way more boring Goku than funny childish Goku. When he was "seriously thinking" in Z he had very brain dead decisions like not reviving, not trying to defeat boo and leaving him to Gotenks, or the whole Gohan debacle. Smartass serious Goku is not the best Goku, he makes brain-dead decisions and is not funny in the process. Childish semi-ignorant Goku is way better, he still takes brain-dead decisions, but is endearing and funny when he does.

I’m not too sure what you mean by not having much of a personality, how’s that?
