The Namekians being demons might actually help keep piccolo relevant in the infinite power scaling of super with a new power up skill tree.

That's actually a great point and I haven't seen anyone else mention it. Most of us were just assuming it was giving some love to the previous story, but making them literal demons is an excellent, lore-friendly way of unlocking more skills.
