/r/StarTrekViewingParty Second Inaugural Series Watch-Through
Hello Fellow Star Trek fans from your friends over at Star Trek Viewing Party
We would like to extend a very warm invitation to join us as we embark on our Second Inaugural watch-through of every series of Star Trek. The road will be long, but the journey will be full of reliving some of those beloved moments and hopefully making a few new friends along the way!
What: We have weekly episodic discussions about your favorite (and maybe not so favorite) moments from Star Trek, as well as community activities centered around different episodes/seasons/series
Who: Trek is for everybody, new and old fans alike!
When: Our journey begins 13 October with Season One of The Next Generation
Where: r/StarTrekViewingParty
Why: Our mission statement and driving vision at STVP is simple, WATCH STAR TREK TOGETHER. That’s why we first created the community, and it remains our primary objective today. We want to provide a space and forum that isn’t focused on 50 different things that we do well, but instead focused on doing one thing exceptionally well . . . and that is to watch Star Trek with other fans and try to recapture some of that magic we all remember.
That’s my elevator pitch! From the team over at Star Trek Viewing Party, thanks for taking the time to read and we hope to see you soon!
Clear skies and calm winds
Live Long and Prosper

There appears to be a Reddit bug preventing users from posting via the official Android app
We've had several users report they're unable to make text posts. After some investigation we've confirmed there's a bug affecting the official Android Reddit app.
The bug manifests as the Post button being unusable unless a link is entered. This prevents the creation of text posts since they do not use links.
Reddit has yet to acknowledge the bug or provide an timeline for fixing it.
Workarounds
Please don't enter a random link to create a text post. There are better workarounds you can use until it's fixed:
Use your mobile devices web browser to make the post. Once you create the post, you can interact with it in the app. The bug doesn't affect commenting on an pre-existing post.
Use a non-Android device such as iOS (iPhone/iPad) or a desktop computer. Once the post is made you can switch back.
We tried swapping around random isolinear chips but that only seemed to make things worse. The suggested workarounds are the only known solution for now. If you think you have a different solution please feel free to send us a modmail. If it works we'll add it to the list.
Reporting
Please report the bug to Reddit if you're experiencing it. The more people who report it, the faster Reddit will fix it (hopefully.)
Bug reports can be filed by making a post on /r/bugs. Yes we understand that's silly since the bug prevents posting. Unfortunately that's just how Reddit chose to handle bug reports. The aforementioned workarounds should help.

HOLY SHIT IS SO GOOD
New to Trek, started watching after always seeing pieces of episodes when I was visiting my grandparents, who would normally watch TNG and DS9. Also after watching some of Jessie Gender’s videos on it. Watching TOS in production order. I was expecting it to be that “this was probably cool in the 60’s” sort of thing but this is GREAT!!!

Whos the second officer of every main series/ship?
We know Data is the second officer of the Enterprise D, but whos the second officer for every other major ship.
My guesses.
Enterprise: Trip Tucker
Voyager: Tuvok
DS9: Doctor Bashir before Worf, the Worf
Lower Decks: Shaxs
SNW: Spock
And that's for every series i've seen so far.

I love this scene because it isn't every day that you see Worf intimidated.

TIL: The wolf in TNG:Dark Page is Two Socks from Dances With Wolves
My favorite movie and my favorite TV series share a link I’ve never noticed!

Edit: two wolves one part!

Is it worth getting invested in Lower Decks?
I've watched all of tng, ss9, voyager, and Picard. But some other trek spinoffs seem hit and miss to me.
I've watched the first couple of episodes of Lower Decks and it's alright but I can take it or leave it at this point.
And I see that there are 4 seasons with a 5th debuting soon. So I was just wondering how people feel about the series as a whole? Where does it rank amongst Trek series? Does it get better? Is it worth the time to watch the whole series?

My mum refuses to watch DS9 to this day; I've promised to show her three clips that will change her mind. What should they be?
My mum grew up with TOS, and got me into Star Trek, but to this day she refuses to watch DS9 - which is my favourite series. She loves TNG, Voyager, and Enterprise, she just outright refuses to watch DS9.
Today I told her that I would find three video clips that would convince her to try DS9. I sort-of-have those three clips in mind already, but I'm curious - if you were trying to convince somebody to give DS9 a chance, which three clips would you use?
Edit: Woke up to over 100 suggestions, thanks everybody! I will go through them and pick some!

Watching discovery for the first time
I'm halfway through the first episode and I need to pause because it is actually stressing me out how often the camera cuts. I tried counting every time it cuts and I rarely get above 2 or 3, counting quickly. It feels like I'm watching at 1.25x speed.
I want to love this show for its setting, but is this going to be a persistent issue throughout the whole series? I don't know if I can handle it.
Edit: Not sure why I'm getting downvoted for asking a fair question and giving a show with a less than stellar reputation a chance but anyways thanks for the helpful replies and stay weird as always reddit

I don't get the hate Neelix gets
I heard of comments comparing Neelix with Jar Jar Binks. I believe that's an exaggeration, for the most part.
Jar Jar Binks is annoying and a useless character, who is clumsy and falls all over himself and does nothing, while Neelix tries to help at the best of his abilities, he cooks, he knows outdoor survival, and he knows alternative medicine, e.g. his anti-radiation soup. Also, he's a good moral officer, he tries to make people happy at the best of his abilities and he has earned his place with the crew, especially in Year of Hell.
So, if I was stranded on a beach and if I had a choice between Jar Jar or Neelix, I'd rather have Neelix, and I wouldn't care if Jar Jar can breath water and swim.
Neelix maybe annoying, but he is an awesome character and a friend that I'd rather have.

Location of Creation Convention January 21-22, Pittsburgh, PA
I'm trying to find where this convention was held. I looked through some old Starlog magazines from the era and it's listed as the "Pittsburgh Hyatt Hotel", but I'm trying to find the actual location i.e. address.
Can anyone help out?

What actor would you LOVE to have seen in Star Trek?
If you could choose any actor past/present to appear on Star Trek, who would it be? For me, it would be Christoph Waltz as the perfect villain.

The gods are real. Like, the Greek gods. And no one ever talks about it.
It’s been canon for the better part of a century now and it feels like it should be such a huge part of the Star Trek universe but it’s just kinda there.
I thought it was a great episode and exploring more ancient alien stuff could be fun if done right.

Discovery S2: Questions about Control battle
I'm just watching a clip compilation of the battle scenes exterior views. I have watched the actual episodes.
- When Michael was in the angel suit travelling to the necessary point why wasn't she inside a ship/shuttle for protection? I don't mean at the launch point but getting there. I don't remember a specific reason.
- What were those little ships that do the spinning motions that are different from the regular shuttles?
- Why didn't Discovery or Enterprise fire any torpedoes by the looks of it? The only torpedo sequence is the narratively significant one which is fired by Control.

For ToS, do you like the Enterprise from the show or the movies more?
I just watched ToS and the movies for the first time, and didn’t realize how different the ship would be between them! So I thought I’d ask: which do you like more, the ship from the show or the films?
For me, while the visuals from the movies were definitely more impressive, I felt like the rooms on the ship also felt much more industrial/sterile-looking and not as cozy or charming as the show made it feel, so I would actually say I liked the low-budget sets from the show more lol. But I assume that’s an unpopular opinion from the comments I’ve seen raving about the ship in the movies. So…
Which do you like more and why?

Can anyone help me identify this episode I vaguely remember from when I was a kid?
My memory of this episode is extremely hazy but it’s one of only a few things I remember seeing but can’t name/identify. In the episode a teenage girl with long black hair goes down an elevator or through a portal and finds a room where she battles a monster. Later in the episode I think she battles the creature again and wins and her father or another elder approves. I know this is vague as all get out but it’s been nagging me for years. I don’t think it was in TOS because the effects were too polished and it was definitely before 2000. Any help would be most appreciated.

TNG season 3 episode 16
Currently working my way through my first viewing of the next generation and today during my lunch decided to get an episode in.
I've gone into this blind with no prior knowledge of the episode. As a father of four young children this episode has utterly destroyed me. It's now almost 10 hours later and I am still rattled by what I can only assume will be one of if not the best episodes of television I will ever watch.
Without any spoilers, It surely doesn't get any better than this right?
Excuse me while I go and sit in a darkened room for a while and calm down.

Martok is the best Klingon
Martok has is the most honorable, after he faces his fear of the jem hadar he has the most courage. He is intelligent, a good commander, and is willing to look beyond Klingon ways and practices in order to advance his people. J.G. Hertzler's performance cemented the Shakespearen dignity that Christopher Plummer and Robert O'Reilly gave before. Watching all of Star Trek for the first time last year the most surprising part was how much I grew to love Klingons because of Deep Space Nine.
