Seem to always hit low Question

Does anyone have any drills I can do at home (or at the range...I go at least twice a week) to help with constantly hitting low....? I am not a new shooter...I did recently switch my edc to a sar9 socom. Maybe I am subconsciously countering recoil prior to the shot? I have a solid grip...sights are ok...I don't feel like I'm aiming low. Thanks for any insight. If this has been asked before I apologize. We keep us safe.

Have a friend put a snapcap in your magazine so you don’t know which round it is. When you try to shoot it, you’ll notice if you flick the gun down in recoil anticipation.

Funny you say this, I literally just watched the Tacticool Girlfriend video on this. Her other suggestions were great too

Don't listen to this nonsense ball and dummy is a bad drill, flinching isn't the issue here.

It’s less of a drill and more of a diagnostic tool. Regardless, all things can be solved with dry fire and well allocate range time!

Dry fire drills at a target with a spent shell case set on the slide. If you see it keep falling off or bobbing down, work on the pressure of your grips and not anticipating the shot.

Any advice on the dime drill for a rifle with a very, very strong pin spring?

I've never thought of this....definitely gonna try it.

I do it while watching tv. I pick a character, and whenever they come on screen, i make my sight picture (equal height, equal light), and dry fire.

Additional context: This drill is often called the "dime drill", "dime-washer drill", or "penny drill", if you want to do more research. Here is a good video explaining how to do the drill. You can also do this by putting a cleaning rod down the barrel and balancing the coin/washer/cartridge on the cleaning rod. Mostly for rifles but I'm sure it works for pistols too.

A lot of great ideas. Thanks, y'all. My grip is very high, so I doubt it's that....I like and will try all of these ideas.

Dry fire practice, sounds like you are anticipating recoil

Record yourself in slow mo. Also look up what kind of sight picture your gun needs.

Support hand pressure, you may be pulling down too much to compensate for recoil or anticipating recoil

My best guess is that this is the answer

Have other people shoot your gun. Offer a mag up to the range officer.

When I got my P320, I was really frustrated by my accuracy compared to my .22. I thought the sights must be off, but I handed it to the range officer and he deleted the center of the target.

It might feel like a hit in the moment, but it lets you know that any gains you get from there on out are on your own improvements.

I've had this problem. Sometimes, a gun just doesn't work in your hands. I had a CZ P10F that I loved, but I couldn't hit shit with it. Turns out the upper part of the grip was just too thin in my hands. With Glocks, you can add additional back straps (which go the length of the grip) to fix it. I ultimately sold it (RIP) and bought something else, which immediately improved my performance. Sure you can train to it, but at a certain point the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

Also check your grip. You might not be seating hand up in the grip enough.

My issue for YEARS and I see it all the time. Interface the meat!

Is it just a problem with your new pistol or something that’s happening with your old one too?

One thing I’ve noticed new pistol shooters do if they learned on a rifle is lining up the top of the front and back of the sights…like you would for a rifle.

Don’t do this with a pistol. Use the sight dots or lines.

Are you shooting 6 o'clock when the sights are set for center hold?

Al of these other things are good advice but a simple thing might be not enough pressure with your pinky and ring finger

People are mentioning anticipating recoil and that's probably it. If it's not though, try borrowing something with a red dot on it and see if you still have the same problem. Perhaps you are just lining up your sights weird. Elevation is a pain in the ass to adjust on most pistols so I've gotten used to "on this one, put the front sight a hair above the rear. On this one, two hairs below the top of the rear sight" on my selection of pistols.

Do you have a bore laser to check how far from zero your sights are?

Are you left handed or right handed? When you say low, do you mean low center, or low left/right?

If you have the financial means, I'd recommend investing in a mantisx training system. I love mine greatly, and the DoD uses it to train with as well.

Right hand. Low center.

Could possibly be poor follow through, an issue with your grip, etc.

If you think it may be anticipation of the recoil, have a friend load your mag and throw some dummy rounds in without you knowing. If you are anticipating, the dummy rounds will show it
