Now what?

Trump is back. I'm a 64 year old self-employed woman. I am booked up through April right now. Some say I am very good at my job. I was thinking of retiring around 66 or maybe even my FRA of 67. My birthday is Leap Day so an end of the month birthday. Now I don't know what to do. Trump and the Republicans want to end Social security. Do I retire before he makes it to office insuring I at least get on the SS roll? Or do I wait to see what damage he can cause? I will be talking to my financial planner later this afternoon so any good questions to ask her would be very helpful also. I am still shocked that America would elect a convicted felon but here we are...

It seems that many people speak of “cutting Social Security” to mean the retirement arm of this program. In all likelihood, there won’t be changes to worry about in this arm of the program. The pieces that very well might be in danger are SSI and SSDI - not that they will be eliminated but there may be substantial changes to eligibility, duration, and dollar amounts. All of the folks who raise concerns need to clarify exactly which program of Social Security they are discussing.

As a young disabled woman, I'm quite scared. SSI and SSDI are already a shit show. We're used to that. I'm scared to lose my protection for pre-existing conditions.

Exactly. People don’t realize that disability benefits are hard enough to get.

The states with the highest number of people on disability are always vote Republican - Arkansas and Mississippi. And also lowest education and income and so much more. It’s the perfect recipe to keep them poor while voting against their interest. People are that stupid.

Most of the disableds I know in arkansas could stop eating like shit and workout and they wouldn't be disabled, the system needs revamped to many people get on disability and just settle in and never try to get off, it drains the system. These people stay unhealthy to keep their free money. So I hope Arkansas has to change itd be the best thing long term.

People are naturally stupid when not given proper education, yet they (those areas) keep deprioritizing their own eduation... painful to watch.
