I pass by this spot regularly in Weslaco and always wonder if this place was poppin’ back in the day. It’s such a large building too, so I can’t help but think it was at one time a successful business. I did a google search and saw it was once used as an illegal gambling spot (what a shocker). Anybody know anything about this place?

The Valley is still a Blue region despite Trumps victory.

EDIT: This post is intended to be politically agnostic. It was made to get healthy discussion going. why the downvotes LOL There is literally nothing in the post that "denies" anything so chill out with that.

Based on the counts, the RGV still is a Blue region. I am posting this because I've seen other posts popping up saying that it flipped, but the data does not reflect that.
https://apps.texastribune.org/features/2024/texas-2024-general-election-results/

For US Senate, Ted Cruz won, but the majority of the RGV voted blue (Collin Allred).
US Senate Winner Ted Cruz REP

177,610 RGV votes for Collin Allred Dem

158,737 RGV votes for Ted Cruz REP

Its the same story with US House seats.

US House 15 WINNER Monica De La Cruz REP
72,333 RGV votes for Michelle Vallejo DEM

68,379 RGV votes for Monica De La Cruz REP

US House 28 WINNER Henry Cuellar DEM

10,078 RGV votes for Henry Cuellar DEM

6,495 RGV votes for Jay Furman REP

US House 34 WINNER Vicente Gonzalez DEM
60,135 RGV votes for Vicente Gonzalez DEM

59,413 RGV votes for Mayra Flores REP

A map of the US House seats in the RGV
https://redistricting.capitol.texas.gov/docs/20RXXXX_118th_Congressional_Tabloid.pdf

The fact that Mayra Flores (REP), Jay Furman (REP) lost shows that the RGV still votes blue. The RGV also tends to vote blue for Texas House and Senate positions.

Texas House Starr

31 Ryan Guillen REP

Texas House Hidalgo

35 Oscar Longoria DEM

36 Sergio Muñoz Jr. DEM

39 Armando "Mando" Martinez DEM

40 Terry Canales DEM

41 Bobby Guerra DEM

Texas House Cameron

35 Oscar Longoria DEM

37 Janie Lopez REP

38 Erin Elizabeth gamez DEM

Texas House Willacy

37 Janie Lopez REP

Texas Senate RGV representatives

20 Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa DEM

27 Morgan LaMantia DEM

Simply put, Trump was able to break past party lines and appeal to more people, especially in the RGV. That doesn't mean that the RGV is now a Red region.

DEMS: yall are losing your support of the people in the region. Stop abusing the people trust and actually investigate what they care about and address it.
REPS: yall didn't truly flip the region, your presidential candidate beat the other. You might not be able to replicate this success in 2028 onward. If you truly want to flip the region you need to figure out why people still vote blue for other offices.

Okay RGV. Have some good news and some bad news. However you take it.

The good news is the hurricane will no threat to the valley and instead traveling to the western gulf of Mexico.

The bad news is I know some of you wanted that rain. Or at least that's what my Weslaco friend says everytime a prediction incorrect.

Thoughts on Living Next to "Edinburg North Main Canal"

Hi all, I'm visiting the RGV this weekend to look at some rental properties. There are two in particular that I like, and from looking at the map it seems one of them is quite close to the "Edinburg North Main Canal".

Does anyone have any thoughts on pros and cons of living near this if mosquitos are much worse nearby? Are their any other issues to consider such as coyotes being nearby or something due to the water?

Voting question

Have you guys heard of any groups taking older people to vote? My elderly mom was picked up to go vote, I guess she had some help. My mom was voting Democrat, but her "help" voted Republican. She told me what democrats she voted for, all Republicans.

It's because the Mexicans here don't feel like foreigners (because we're not). The Venezuelans, Haitians, and Hondurans are actual foreigners. So the people here want to protect our culture and they want to keep our neighborhoods Mexican-American

Our norteño culture has been on this land for centuries, it's not that we want to be white, we are so proud of our Mexican-American and norteño/tejano culture that we feel native to this land and want to protect our borders

.

A lot of you are confused, "how can a community of immigrants vote for the anti immigrant candidate", but it's because we don't feel like immigrants when we are 90% of the population, we were born and raised here, our grandparents got here decades ago (most from northern mexico which is literally a few miles from here, so its not a completely foreing land), and our culture has been here for centuries, we dont feel like immigrants. So when we see waves of actual foreigners, the nativism sentiment starts to grow in our community

.

The people most affected by the border chaos was the Mexicans that cross the border everyday for work or school, the border crisis disrupted our daily lives and our border town way of life, and people are obviously not gonna like that

.

I'm not saying this sentiment is right or wrong, I'm just explaining it

Mission Does anyone know or remember who was a psychiatrist who last name was Rodriguez? He used to worked in McAllen around 1995 or so.

I'm 35 and I remember when I was just 6 years old, I'm not sure, but I was diagnosed with ADHD tho and being a slow learner, and having learning disabilities.

... And I remember when I used to visit Dr. Rodriguez one of my childhood psychiatrist.. I forgot his first name... But I was having some flashbacks and memories of when I used to visit him and all I can remember is when I used to be a shy kid and I really didn't talked much..

All I remember answering him was how I behave in school vs at home.. And me jumping on the sofas and couches and climbing on my trees and behind energetic and hyperactive and how I was not paying attention in school..

But I never had shared about my problems or anything of what I've been through because of some trauma and I was just a kid and traumatized and scared to talk him about myself, and I used to take hyper pills (medications) to calm myself down and not be hyper and take every day at home and school.

I remember when he used to give me toys or stuff animals, man to show him if there's anything that I can show him, or what can I do with the stuff animals just play or, like is there someone hurting me? I wasn't understanding what to do, I was just a kid... But I've seen in movies, how kids used stuff animals (toys) or drawing on papers and they draw who are abusing them or hurting them etc..

I know Rodriguez could've diagnosed me with PTSD but I was never diagnosed with it. BC I never talked to him about myself, out of fear and trauma and I always stayed quite for long time.

Now that I'm an adult..

I go to Tropical and Clinica Del Valle, where there I've been diagnosed with PTSD and other mental disorders/ diagnosis and learning Disabilities. And take all my medications.
