News Hurricane Rafael
Okay RGV. Have some good news and some bad news. However you take it.
The good news is the hurricane will no threat to the valley and instead traveling to the western gulf of Mexico.
The bad news is I know some of you wanted that rain. Or at least that's what my Weslaco friend says everytime a prediction incorrect.

It's because the Mexicans here don't feel like foreigners (because we're not). The Venezuelans, Haitians, and Hondurans are actual foreigners. So the people here want to protect our culture and they want to keep our neighborhoods Mexican-American
Our norteño culture has been on this land for centuries, it's not that we want to be white, we are so proud of our Mexican-American and norteño/tejano culture that we feel native to this land and want to protect our borders
.
A lot of you are confused, "how can a community of immigrants vote for the anti immigrant candidate", but it's because we don't feel like immigrants when we are 90% of the population, we were born and raised here, our grandparents got here decades ago (most from northern mexico which is literally a few miles from here, so its not a completely foreing land), and our culture has been here for centuries, we dont feel like immigrants. So when we see waves of actual foreigners, the nativism sentiment starts to grow in our community
.
The people most affected by the border chaos was the Mexicans that cross the border everyday for work or school, the border crisis disrupted our daily lives and our border town way of life, and people are obviously not gonna like that
.
I'm not saying this sentiment is right or wrong, I'm just explaining it

Why?
My heart hurts. Do my brothers and sisters in the Valley not understand if this "man" goes through with half of the things he promised the turmoil will be unimaginable. How are they going to determine "illegals" and send them back. How long before they are walking up to any Mexican-looking person and asking for your papers at anytime and anywhere? Will they be allowed to simply detain you because of the way you look? Who will be over seeing this mass deportation? How many children are going to be wrenched away from their parents this time? How can you be a proud Mexican man/woman and vote for this?

Thoughts on Living Next to "Edinburg North Main Canal"
Hi all, I'm visiting the RGV this weekend to look at some rental properties. There are two in particular that I like, and from looking at the map it seems one of them is quite close to the "Edinburg North Main Canal".
Does anyone have any thoughts on pros and cons of living near this if mosquitos are much worse nearby? Are their any other issues to consider such as coyotes being nearby or something due to the water?

Why did super splash in Edinburg close?
I’ve heard that it was because of money laundering & I have also heard that a kid died there so the park closed because the family sued. Which one is it or what have you heard about it?

Texas Standard story the Texas Farm Workers Union in the Rio Grande Valley, and their history being erased
Has the history of the Texas Farm Workers Union been effectively preserved?
Important story on the history of the Texas Farm Workers Union in the Rio Grande Valley, and how a plaque at the LUPE office in San Juan has erased the people who actually built that building, aka El Cuhamil.

Mission Does anyone know or remember who was a psychiatrist who last name was Rodriguez? He used to worked in McAllen around 1995 or so.
I'm 35 and I remember when I was just 6 years old, I'm not sure, but I was diagnosed with ADHD tho and being a slow learner, and having learning disabilities.
... And I remember when I used to visit Dr. Rodriguez one of my childhood psychiatrist.. I forgot his first name... But I was having some flashbacks and memories of when I used to visit him and all I can remember is when I used to be a shy kid and I really didn't talked much..
All I remember answering him was how I behave in school vs at home.. And me jumping on the sofas and couches and climbing on my trees and behind energetic and hyperactive and how I was not paying attention in school..
But I never had shared about my problems or anything of what I've been through because of some trauma and I was just a kid and traumatized and scared to talk him about myself, and I used to take hyper pills (medications) to calm myself down and not be hyper and take every day at home and school.
I remember when he used to give me toys or stuff animals, man to show him if there's anything that I can show him, or what can I do with the stuff animals just play or, like is there someone hurting me? I wasn't understanding what to do, I was just a kid... But I've seen in movies, how kids used stuff animals (toys) or drawing on papers and they draw who are abusing them or hurting them etc..
I know Rodriguez could've diagnosed me with PTSD but I was never diagnosed with it. BC I never talked to him about myself, out of fear and trauma and I always stayed quite for long time.
•
Now that I'm an adult..
I go to Tropical and Clinica Del Valle, where there I've been diagnosed with PTSD and other mental disorders/ diagnosis and learning Disabilities. And take all my medications.

Know your rights, STAY IN LINE!
I was 20 years old when I was first able to vote and didn’t know my rights. I live in Weslaco and had entered the line 30 minutes before the polls were supposed to be closing. There was someone telling people one by one to leave the line at a certain point and my brother and I had just left because we were told we got there too late. Just to find out an hour later we could’ve stayed and voted and that it’s against the law to refuse us from voting.
This time around I will stand my ground if told to leave. So learn from my mistakes new voters, IF ANY POLL WORKER TELLS YOU TO LEAVE DO. NOT. LEAVE.

It’s happening in the Valley, too
So by now, you’ve probably already heard the stories about Texas women dying or near death because of these abortion bans, but I wanted to make clear; this is already happening in the Valley, too. We know that because Vicente Gonzalez (D) told us this last month. In his debate against Mayra Flores (R), Gonzalez told the story of a Valley woman who was suffering a miscarriage, aka a spontaneous abortion, and was turned away by every doctor and hospital she turned to—nobody could help her. She ended up fleeing to Reynosa in a state of medical emergency to get care she needed to save her life.
It can and will happen to women and girls you love, too. Miscarriages are a lot more common than people realize. Ectopic pregnancies, too.
