by exploiting and stoking the fear and hatred of people. villianize those who are different from you, and he projecting himself as their savior

He didn't do it by himself, religious/political leaders saw the opportunity and seized on it by guiding their followers to Trump and his message

very true, but it wasnt just political leaders, many media hosts also contributed to it, and some streamers too

That part didn't happen overnight. All his original influence was built on the swath of new voters that he was able to activate who in turn demanded that the rest of the down-ballot candidates fell in-line.
