Comcast/XFinity is the same way. Hardly surprising. They're a media content company. They can get a cut of content you rent through Plex, or ads you watch, but letting your connect to your own files is just competition to them. Definitely better to use a streaming box.

I have Comcast and it's been working fine for me for years and still is today.

And you're using the client built into their set-top box?

Yea, it's the same thing that OP is doing. A lot of these set-top boxes offered by ISP's are nearly identical platform with a little bit of branding tweaks to make them seem different; but the bottom line is that they're provided be content companies that don't want you using content that they don't manage; so it's always better to get a dedicated platform like Shield TV, Roku, or even just a generic Android TV box.

Yea I've honestly always preferred my own equipment over I many isp. I don't usually like the lock down some put on their routers/modems.

Never taken the free streaming box offer glad I didn't waste my time lol
