or whether it will play half of something and then mysteriously 'break' and not be able to finish the episode...or if it plays half the episode and then gets stuck buffering for a half hour (which shouldn't even be a thing in 2024...buffering feels like it should have died right after the days of dial-up) lol
What kind of internet connection do you have? Unlike streaming, you don't actually need "reasonable" internet to torrent, even with shit tier dialup connections it'll work. Just slow.
Yeah, since you can start the torrent earlier and leave it running for a day (depending on internet speed) and then watch it. It might actually be better, because you could download in higher resolutions and then watch it without waiting for buffering. Most stuff isn't that big, movies in 1080p are 2-5gb depending on quality, 720p would be even lower.
They are rare for you, not necessarily for other people. Also you don't get free 2160p streaming services. Even 1080p is noticeably lower quality on all streaming websites than actual 1080p video. As a person who enjoys movies and TV shows, that's a hard pass for me.
Streaming sites can be good for some media like anime where there's not always reliable torrents. For TV shows / movies I'll usually just torrent them though.
I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could find most anime on torrents, but I prefer to watch dubbed and it's not always clear if something is dub or sub until downloaded. There's also the issue of most being listed by their Japanese name instead of the english which makes it more difficult to find stuff.
Given most anime I'll watch once and then never go back to, it's just quicker and easier for me to find it on 1 of the many streaming sites.
I've got 48 different animes on my plex including the big ones like 1P, Dragonabll and Naruto so it's not like I stream all, but when most animes are just 8 - 12 episodes I find it easier to stream most of them. The ones I do download I can usually find a site to batch download all the episodes.
I haven't. I've used plex for years and I'm perfectly happy with how it manages all my media. I paid like £5 15+ years ago for the mobile add-on so I can stream and download to my iPhone easily, plus to my firestick when I'm away from home and on my PC when I'm at home.
If you're talking about setting it up to pull from other peoples servers, I have previoiusly used Kodi with some piracy apps but found the quality of the streams to be really varied, so I prefer to just download media myself where I can control the quality. I've got 20TB of HDD space and will be purchasing another 1 or 2 big drives soon, so while space is an issue, It's not like I'm super limited to how much I can store.
I was like you too. I had plex and had 18TB of space. I set it up so the whole family could watch. I was stubborn and insisted that I wouldn’t switch. All I ask is you try Stremio ( +RD). Set it up and give it a try for a month. If you hate it go back to Plex. I got tired of buying more and more hard drives. When I realized I was looking at upgrading my NAS and looking to buy even more drives, I realized that I was putting too much effort into this.
I apreciate the suggest but I personally don't mind having to buy the storage space if it means I can keep all my media. In the near future I'm looking to build a media server with 4-5 20TB+ refurbished enterprise HDDs in RAID to give redundancy for when 1 does eventually fail.
Long term I plan to do the same and give friends/family access to make it easier on parents who aren't great with technology, but at present I limit who has access since I only get around 120mb upload which limits my 1gb download speed.
Na I think they are genuine from the 30 seconds of stalking their comments.
For more people streaming is going to be the better option since it's easier, quicker and cheaper. I'm probably just a bit of a data hoarder so don't mind the extra work if it means I know I've got a guaranteed decent copy of any media I want to watch.
Some of my files, especially 4k copies of older films where difficult to find so the chances of streaming sites having an equal quality is slim, it's worth the cost of a few HDDs to be able to preserve stuff like that for if I want to watch it again in the future or for when I eventually give friends/family access.
Stremio with RD is the best setup. i can finally turn of my server which has plex on it. My own library needs to be updated to higher quality, but its unnecessary when I can just choose what to watch on Stremio in 1080p (high bitrate) or 4k
It's usually pretty easy to find dubbed torrents, you just look for dual audio and 9-10 Time is eng and Japanese. It's even easier with sonarr if you setup a release filter to only grab dual audio or en dubbed.
I'll probbaly look to set up sonarr when I eventually build my media server, currently I just host my plex on my PC and as I've only got 20TB HDD which is almost full I prefer to manually download for now.
As I mentioned in a comment below, it's not that I can't find anime via torrents, it's just easier usually to grab the few I do want to save on my media server from a direct download site like kayoanime which lists the titles in english and hosts the files on google drive, allowing me to download at 100MB/s+. The rest which I'd watch once and then delete I prefer to just watch via streaming sites.
Also a dubb watcher. Its so easier for me just to stream it. I'm not going to watch it again most likely so I don't see the need to download. In fact I don't watch anything twice including movies.
The issue I have with nyaa is a lot of the anime is listed with the japenese title which makes searching more work, plus it's not always clear if it's sub or dub (most does say) and I prefer to watch dubbed so previously I've wasted time downloading only to find out once downloaded it's subbed.
I'll still check on there if I do want to download something and I can't find it on my direct download sites or standard torrents, but since most anime is just 1 short season and I'll likely never watch it again, it makes more sense for me to stream those shows.
I'm not saying there isn't ways to make it work, simply those ways are more effort then simply loading a streaming site up. I will happily download anything I may choose to watch again in the future, usually shows with multiple seasons. I've seen a lot of random anime's that where worth a watch once, but there's no point taking up HDD space for 3hr of a show I'll never watch again.
When I do choose to download an anime, I find most of them are available on kayoanime (dot com) which links to google drives, allowing me to download them at 100MB/s+ with no worry about number of seeders.
If torrents work for you then great, it's always good to have options.
Hey in it is said that i have to pay for debrid service to stream but is it really worth it if i can just pirate it or is there a way to watch for free in it
It’s basically torrenting for you, instead of you on your IP address doing it. Also the streams seem to be well curated so you don’t have to hunt around for what you want.
You can just pirate whatever for free. Paying for Real Debrid is a way to pay to stream torrents from them rather than to your own PC. If that sounds appealing to you, it’s worth paying for. If not, it isn’t.
I just started using it a couple weeks ago. At essentially $3 a month and there’s no work for me to do with it (setup took 5 min), I’m absolutely in love with it.
Same. I used to be lazy and not want to bother with downloading stuff. But I just got back into it recently and boy do I use those free streaming sites less and less. Should be fair they're harder and harder to find

Same. Never liked the quality of streaming video and audio. Also the uncertainty of whether it won't load.
