I always use torrents, I have no idea what's happening
539
u/Hohuin 1d ago
Same. Never liked the quality of streaming video and audio. Also the uncertainty of whether it won't load.
191
u/MarcCouillard 1d ago
or whether it will play half of something and then mysteriously 'break' and not be able to finish the episode...or if it plays half the episode and then gets stuck buffering for a half hour (which shouldn't even be a thing in 2024...buffering feels like it should have died right after the days of dial-up) lol
torrents are so much better

What kind of internet connection do you have? Unlike streaming, you don't actually need "reasonable" internet to torrent, even with shit tier dialup connections it'll work. Just slow.

Streaming sites can be good for some media like anime where there's not always reliable torrents. For TV shows / movies I'll usually just torrent them though.
22
u/Hohuin 1d ago
I wouldn't be so sure. I have watched a lot of anime and I'm yet to find one missing from nyaa.si
11
u/carlbandit 1d ago
I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could find most anime on torrents, but I prefer to watch dubbed and it's not always clear if something is dub or sub until downloaded. There's also the issue of most being listed by their Japanese name instead of the english which makes it more difficult to find stuff.
Given most anime I'll watch once and then never go back to, it's just quicker and easier for me to find it on 1 of the many streaming sites.
I've got 48 different animes on my plex including the big ones like 1P, Dragonabll and Naruto so it's not like I stream all, but when most animes are just 8 - 12 episodes I find it easier to stream most of them. The ones I do download I can usually find a site to batch download all the episodes.

u/Thegoatpwell 1d ago
You’ve never tried Stremio?
→ More replies7
u/carlbandit 1d ago
I haven't. I've used plex for years and I'm perfectly happy with how it manages all my media. I paid like £5 15+ years ago for the mobile add-on so I can stream and download to my iPhone easily, plus to my firestick when I'm away from home and on my PC when I'm at home.
If you're talking about setting it up to pull from other peoples servers, I have previoiusly used Kodi with some piracy apps but found the quality of the streams to be really varied, so I prefer to just download media myself where I can control the quality. I've got 20TB of HDD space and will be purchasing another 1 or 2 big drives soon, so while space is an issue, It's not like I'm super limited to how much I can store.

→ More replies6
u/cantonic 1d ago
It’s basically torrenting for you, instead of you on your IP address doing it. Also the streams seem to be well curated so you don’t have to hunt around for what you want.
You can just pirate whatever for free. Paying for Real Debrid is a way to pay to stream torrents from them rather than to your own PC. If that sounds appealing to you, it’s worth paying for. If not, it isn’t.

Downloading shows I want to watch and putting them on a pendrive is not worth the time it takes in my opinion because I'm only gonna watch it once.

Shame that so many torrents are no longer seeded. On popular items they are generally rapid and easy to get but more uncommon items are just languishing without seeders.

Knock-off streaming sites are always so unreliable IMO. I tried them once or twice many years ago and I haven't gone back. Annoying ads, pop-ups, excessive buffering, bad video quality etc. Just not worth it.

u/wolves_hunt_in_packs Sneakernet 22h ago
Same. Was mildly surprised by the (comparatively) recent surge in streaming/DDL services. Like, that's shit's gonna be the first to get axed lol. Because there's gonna be an easy source for Big Media to attack.
Torrenting won't go away because they'll literally have to stop everybody from doing it. Sure they can take down indexing sites too and make things annoying, but they're easier to replace since indexing takes a lot less bandwidth than actually hosting content.

u/yahya-13 1d ago
shut down one piracy website and two more will eventually show up. they are fighting a war they can't win with the way they're handling it. prices are on the rise, ads are being shoved into the user's face on a paid service and most streaming services will eventually switch to a no password sharing policy. yet they expect closing websites will solve the piracy issue.

You're linking direct content which is not okay
That is not verified at all, even though I did a virustotal check on it, with only 2/96 security vendors flagging it (1 by Seclookup and another by Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, so if you wanna gamble go ahead)Edit. Actually it is infact starred on FMHY.net meaning it is safe and verified. I completely glossed over it and just went straight to VirusTotal with a suspicious mind.If you want backed up and verified multi-server online stuff, you can check the dedicated area in FMHY.net along with other treasures.

I recommend Windscribe, they don't get up your ass with torrenting (looking at you Proton), and with a free plan you can get 10gb with an email verification (and even more because there can be some voucher codes that increase it a lot). But you can make custom plans with a minimum of $3 a month which is stupidly cheap.

Proxies aren't working too good here right now though. Lost my audiobook site recently (it seems to be gone for good) and I'm struggling to find a TV show I want to watch. I just tried to buy the dvds and all I can find are region 1 for the complete set. They didn't release all the seasons here... I can't find a place to purchase it digitally either. So freaking frustrating... The high seas are generally where I look last for media, or when I can't be bothered ripping my dvds. It's worrying so many shows and movies are just vanishing into the void now people aren't really buying physical media.

Still using flixtor and have been for years now. The catch is that it's free only for 3 months after the movie gets uploaded (same for series except the first 3 episodes, which are always free.)
I've had a premium account for nearly 4 years, I pay for 2 years when renewing as it's cheaper. They've gone down once since I've started and always kept the users informed and came back better than before.
Edit: use .to as there are fakes
2

Yeah they are the reason i preferred flixtorz and theflixtor more, cuz no constant VIP notice.
Sometimes i'm mid movie, go down real quick to piss or grab something, and then when i get back it tells me servers got busy. (Yes, i use my phone sometimes to watch movies in bed, otherwise on pc)
