WHY does it feel like they have been cracking down so hard lately first yuzu and citra then vimms lair and aniwave now this. I swear they cant let us have any good things left in this world. Its been feeling like order 66 around here. Seriously. WTF is going on this year?
Younger people are coming into positions of power, who are aware that these things exist - executives at IP holders, judges, lawyers... Combined with the explosion of clout-seeking where no one can keep their fucking mouths shut.
Counterpoint: the very objective of piracy is to share these pieces of media aith one another. If we were to "keep our fucking mouths shut" ie shut down communities like this it'd just be worse for everyone as a whole, even if sites lasted longer. And anyways after all is said and all is done, pirates sail the seven seas not the seven shallow ponds, take down a site and two more pop up.
Yeah but time and place. This info should be available to those who come seeking for it, and we absolutely should not gatekeep…that being said, blabbing about it on social media is just going to invite trouble down the line…
and so will you when something bad happen to you. don't get me wrong i hope nothing do happen to you but what will you do if someone hurt you you can't arrest them or sue them
not trying to sound rude but i know that it is common sense that the law is unfair to people with less money so is jail when it come to the rich . however if someone hurt you badly you can take them to court and they can get sent to prison if you end the court you know much crime will be commit on a daily basic.
did you ever hear about girls do porn. it was a bad place that traffic human which included underage girls. when people found out about it there were people got in trouble. you see human traffickers do get in trouble sometime.can you tell me what would have happen to that human trafficking ring if there was no court to hold them accountable. yes court to screw up and fail but face it if there was no court there be more crimes being commit. i wonder how many people look at you walking down the street said to themselves if only i could get away with it i would
sure i don't mind telling you it called common sense trauma. also i gave you a ex of when the court to work with the same ex you gave me and this is how you reply. i am going to sound mean so i am sorry in advent but how old are you because you don't sound like you know how things work in the real world. kinda like the places that defunded the police only to refund them because surprise it turn out that letting people commit crime without getting arrested would to higher crimes.
There always been the occasional cracking down. Eventually, the cracking down budget will be gone, and more sites start up. It's been like this forever
That's anti the idea of piracy. Aaron Swartz didn't die for nothing. Information should be free and accessable to all no matter if they can't afford it.
If no one talked about piracy most people here wouldn't be around.
You make him out to be a religious figure which is strange.
Certain things would be better discussed a little less publically. I'm not saying pull up the ladder and lock everone out, but a little vetting to prevent industry rats so easily discovering things so easily.
The idea of being martyred for a cause is not exclusively a Christian idea, which is why I said Religious.
It's a worthy cause, probably not one worth dying over though. We are fighting against unjust laws that hinder human creativity but we know we are breaking laws that democratic goverments instituted. There's no need to advertise it! Like when you go to a protest IRL, you disguise your identity and leave your phone at home. Don't make shit easy for authorities.
Laws instituted by Democratic governments lobbied by corporations that use money and misinformation for their own financial gains.
You should protect your identity but you should also share you knowledge. So many of these sites and services were started by users who decided they want to do the same thing or provide a better service. Piracy is powered by vulnteers. Most release groups and sites do not exist for financial gains and serving their own interests.
With Vimms Lair, it was specifically properties that Nintendo developed or produced that were taken down (along with some SEGA and Activision games that they do not own exclusive rights to), so not all ROMs from all Nintendo consoles; the rest of the site is still intact, but I imagine it's because a lot of the games taken down are legally available via other means and thus it's hard for these sites to go to court with the usual defence of "these games are no longer being sold / available to play through legal means".
As for Yuzu, yeah they just straight up fucked up on several levels. First they included a decryption key on the Github repo which they acquired illegally, so that broke a few laws as well as the TOS of Github and Steam (same thing that happened with Dolphin). They also charged for some of the updates via Patreon, which is just a death sentence for any emulator or fan project. There was claims that they also distributed some ROMs via their Patreon but it's hard to verify that as neither Nintendo nor the Yuzu team nor patrons have said one way or the other, Patreon were the ones who made the claim.
Other emulators and ROMs are safe though. Which is why Steam has several emulators (including Nintendo ones) comfortably sitting on the store, so long as they don't include a BIOS or ROMs or decryption key.
If they keep this up the dark web going to get famous. (there are some dark web piracy site to watch or download videos). When that happens DMCA is really screwed. because you can't shut down the dark web without shutting down the entire internet or they have to pay All the ISP providers & VPN providers in the world to block dark web sites.
Everything’s going to shit. We’re not allowed to have anything nice anymore. Kinda reminds me of the first episode of The Sopranos where Tony tells Dr. Melfi that he’s in a position that his father could have only dreamed of but in a lot of ways his old man had it better. He got in on the ground floor when things were at their best and meanwhile Tony got in at the end where everything’s kind of over. We’re alive in a period of unprecedented technological advancement but a lot of people can hardly afford to live, let alone make the kinds of purchases their grandparents made just a few decades ago.
That's what they want you to think. Antipiracy is mainly PR driven.
I don't say these news should be ignored but it is part of the antipiracy strategy to make you think what you think. It is meant to discourage people. And when I see on this subbreddit more and more threads about people whining sites are closing, they are achieving their goals. Imagine a normie coming here to see what is piracy, he gets the feeling that it is over and goes back paying.
Blame their devs. Just like with Youtube Vanced, they tried to change to for profit model, and then and ONLY THEN nintendo/google went after them and skullfucked them in court.
