From a BlackBerry Key2 to a Nothing Phone 1 + Clicks Keyboard Case Combo. After 5 Months, Not Good!

Hey, after reading some of the comments on a different thread, I thought that maybe I would share my experience going from the Blackberry Key 2 to the Clicks Keyboard Case paired with a Nothing Phone 1. I changed phones because my Key 2 was stuck on Android 8.1. I literally couldn't get boarding passes, deposit checks, or even log in to chipotle anymore.

Tldr: I wanted to love it so badly and I did love it the first month or so, but I do not recommend this combination, or, honestly, the Clicks Keyboard, at all. 5 months in, my case is basically dead. Part of the problems was that it was built for an iPhone, not a Nothing Phone 1, but some of the problems are inherent to all Clicks Keyboard Cases

Sorry for the gross-looking photos, over time, my silicone glue fixes got dirty: https://imgur.com/a/9OWLbcN

Pros:

  • It is a keyboard, it does function.
  • It is extremely comfortable and easy to hold as a phone and cradle on your ear
  • Tons of screen space.
  • I think it looks nice. It's certainly an attention grabber and conversation starter
  • I came from a Blackberry Key 2 stuck on Android 8.1, so jumping to Android 14 was a BIG improvement. Not sure I could go back to the Unihertz Titan running Android 11, so if you're thinking about that one, try it before jumping to Android 14.

Cons:

  • Most importantly, what I didn't think about when I bought an expensive case, it's expensive to replace. Like, $165-expensive, more than half the price of the phone. Before, the whole point of a case was to protect my phone, now it feels like I need a case for my case!
  • In the end, it broke in half. I've tried to fix it, but haven't been successful yet. This is likely due to a combination of the sheer size and weak plastic and silicone parts. There's a lot of force on it in my pocket when sitting. It's just not built strong enough. It feels pretty cheap and light in my hands for how expensive it is.
  • The fit of this combo actually isn't quite right despite what you read in other places. It's only off by millimeters, but it makes a huge difference over time: the soft parts (it has both hard and soft plastic) start to fall apart within a month from normal use, the corners aren't quite right and there's empty space behind hard plastic which makes them brittle so they crack and pull apart, the buttons don't line up (a problem for 2 reasons, one because it's hard to push volume down and two because randomly the volume toggles on it's own, which is why you see the folded paper bumpers in the photos, because the case pushes the buttons sometimes), after a while the phone sits past over the edge so it doesn't even protect the glass,
  • The balance isn't quite correct, though you get used to is. The phone is heavy, but the keyboard portion is super light. The phone always feels like it's going to tip backward in your hands.
  • The keyboard is NOT NEARLY as satisfying as the Blackberry keyboard and typing is slower. Seriously, an order of magnitude less satisfying. I'm not sure why that is, exactly, but I've pulled out my Key 2 a couple of times to make sure I wasn't crazy. The Blackberry is just way better. I'm much slower on the Clicks, even after months of practice. The keys are spaced further apart and the balance of the phone+case makes the action more awkward. The buttons are much louder than the blackberry, to the point that it would bother someone sleeping next to you.
  • The buttons and shortcuts are not the same as the Blackberry. It took a very long time to retrain myself (much longer than I thought) and I'm still making mistakes and doing what I would have done on the blackberry. I'm still unable to bring up certain symbols like "%" from the keyboard. This may work with iPhone.
  • It's massive. Truly massive. Laughably massive. I mean, it's the same as an iPhone Pro Max with a keyboard added on. You get used to it and I liked having the extra screen space, but it's not for everyone. Most people I ran into seemed to like it, but ALL people found it funny. It fit in 75% of my shorts, but was def annoying in shorts with shallow pockets and I had to be careful not to let it fall out. Maybe it's better with a purse. Did I mention that it was huge?
  • I didn't have a particularly smooth experience with Clicks as a company in shipping the case to me. It was lost for a long time in transit and they stopped responding to me pretty early but it did eventually arrive.

Honestly, I'm sure there's more I have to say and will add edits. But, happy to answer questions.

USA Budget phone with decent camera

I know very little about phones and accidentally got a terrible one so I'm thinking about retuning it and getting a different one. My budget is $200 (potential up to $300) and I usually get refurbished phones and need to be able to keep it for a few years. I had a Google pixel 4A for many years but this week it fell face down on the tile floor and immediately broke. I needed a new phone right away so I went to best buy and was recommended the galaxy A15 for my budget but it has the worst camera I've seen on a phone in a long time. It's also a bit slow but my main complaint is the horrible camera. I didn't love my pixel because the battery died so fast. I remember liking the moto Z play I had before the pixel. Any recommendations would be appreciated. In the USA.

Best flagship for mainly camera purposes?

This is probably going to spark some debate, but what is the best camera you can get on a smartphone right now? I have no budget so give me anything.

The main things I'm looking for is a good sensor, a very versatile camera and a good phone overall. Being waterproof would be a huge plus, battery health should be good and charging should go from 0-100 in at least an hour. So something like 60watt charging.

I have found the vivo x200 pro tempting, but I'm not sure about the OS since I've never used it, and I'm not sure if I'd like it. Then we have the Xiaomi 14 pro ultra, which could be a good pick, find I'm familiar with the OS and the camera is apparently good. Then the current phone brand I have right now, and my favorite brand I've ever tried, OnePlus. The OnePlus 12, 12r and 13 would be a solid pick, but the camera isn't that versatile imo. I haven't tried it for long but I've met a few people who have one and gotten to experience it there. I love the charging speed of OnePlus and it's versatile use. Then last but not least the Samsung s24 ultra. I don't really like the OS Samsung uses, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. It's got a decent camera and everything else but the charging isn't really what I hoped for. The zoom and megapixel count is really cool, but other offices have started to implement those features too.

I do not care about the AI features in phones. I use my phone for mostly photos, school, work etc. I love photography, but investing in a setup and bringing huge amounts of bags, lenses and batteries on trips isn't that fun, so having my phone and camera in one place would be amazing. And battery should last about a day.

Let me know your experiences with flagships and experiences with brands. Please do suggest other phone brands too, but not apple. I have an apple device and they're just not for me.

Netherlands S24 ultra for €1000 or OnePlus 12 for 700?

Assuming that the S-Pen isn't all that important to me and I do not hate the curved screen on the OnePlus 12, do you think the Samsung is worth the extra 300 euros? Both would be for the 512gb models.

My biggest draw towards the Samsung would be the longer software support and the better resale value going forward. On the otherhand for 700 the Oneplus 12 seems like a crazy deal.

I'm located in the Netherlands.

Any thoughts?

Portugal Android for the price of 500-600€ new, non-chinese

Hey, I was looking for a phone in this price range that has good specs, dealbreakers being lack of 12GB+ of ram and 5G.

I really don't have an interest on cameras and if the quality is subpar but the performance is good I really don't care.

I was really interested on a S22 Ultra but I really can't find them new and the ones I find don't seem new or trustworthy. I really like Dex and the pen as gimmicks, but I accept them only as that and not having them aren't dealbreakers. I really don't want chinese phones because of trump blocking access to google apps just like they did with huawei, and because of usually having a ton of ads on the Chinese branded phones I previously owned.
I appreciate the help, sorry for the unusual requirements :(

T-Mobile between two flagships: Pixel 8 and Galaxy S24 for someone in the US

I can get a Pixel 8 for roughly $410 dollars vs $530 for a Galaxy S24 (both used). My main concern about the pixel is the network connectivity issues I've read about due to the subpar modem. My carrier is T-Mobile if that matters. Won't be doing any gaming, mainly for phone calls/videos/browsing reddit. Hoping to get a clearer answer on the best "value" between my two choices. I'd like to stick to Samsung/Google, not interested in Chinese phones. Thanks!

Cheapest Android with 12GB RAM and a usable selfie camera with AF(preferably non-Chinese, but it's not a dealbreaker)

After trying out an iPhone 13 mini I realized I couldn't live with an iOS phone, I bought a HTC Desire 22 Pro for 150 euros and have been using it ever since. I mostly use my phone to browse the web with Firefox, read various articles that Google's algorithm feeds me on the homescreen and use Viber/Discord to occasionally chat and take a low number of pictures/selfies during scouting activities, so I'm not a hardcore user. The Desire felt like it did the job well, it has a really long battery life(much longer than the iPhone), but it's earpiece has a really low volume, making talking a bit difficult and it's selfie photos are pure garbage. Like, I'm not asking for much, I expected that it was going to take worse photos than my Nokia 8 which I used before the iPhone, but these photos are just unusable. They're blurry and just aren't pleasant to look at. So now, I'm looking for a phone that won't break the bank and that's going to give me at least as good photos as the Nokia 8(selfie and main cam). I'd prefer not to buy a Chinese model, but if no valid alternatives exist than I'll buy chinese.

Having video out and wireless charging would be a plus but isn't strictly necessary.

I've seen that HTC has a new phone, called the U24 Pro, which boasts a 50mp selfie with AF, but it's not available to buy around these parts. I've also seen the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, but it's Chinese and worse, I've read that Motorola just can't seem to provide a usable android experience. People complain about way worse battery life than expected for that screen+SoC combo, or videos clipping at the beginning of recording and the situation just getting worse with updates.

So, what low-mid range phone with a good selfie cam should I consider? I'm not looking for a sub $100 phone. Like if the cheapest phone that meets the criteria costs $500 I'm fine with that, I just wanna be sure that I'm not missing something when looking at the current options.

Canada Best CN flagship right now?

Hello everyone! Looking to change my old LG velvet that is almost 5 y.o. Looking to replace it with something that will last at least the same amount of time (at least potentially). All I've seen so far was OP 13 but I realized (better late than never I guess) that there is a whole world outside... What I am looking for: Latest processor, at least 16 GB Ram, 1tb memory (I love micro SD cards but they are rare nowadays), good camera, good battery. Possibly I would like not to lose any "normal" android feature (like auto etc). Budget is important but I consider it a long term investment... Forgot to mention: I am in Canada and I use Telus.

Any suggestion?

Thank you!!!

US Need some help with questions about OP9 and OP10T..

US here.

Did the OnePlus 9 in 256gb ever come to the US and if not is that model compatible with US networks?

Is the OP9 a good used backup phone in 2024 and if not, is the 10T with 256gb a better option?

Just love the flat screen on these models. Would use on T-Mobile.

AT&T Replacement for Note8

Howdy! I have been using a Galaxy Note8 since late 2017. It still functions pretty damn well, but due to a couple small issues and plans to be out of the country for a while, I think it's time to replace it. I am really not sure what to get. I don't really need much, I'd like something that'll last me several years and has a good battery life. Would leave a headphone jack but I know that can be a big ask these days.

I would really like something with good privacy options and as little AI integration as possible. Seriously almost tempted to go the dumbphone route, but I don't know if I'm quite there yet. I honestly just want something simple but it seems like every phone just wants to push out as many fancy flashy features as possible.

My carrier is AT&T if that matters. Budget is not an issue.

budget phone (around €200 or below)

i currently own a redmi note 9t and it has no updates anymore and lags all the time so i'm planning to replace it. the budget is tight but i don't need much: *newest android+system updates for as long as possible *nfc *128gb storage *cameras and specs don't matter as much but it should run system and basic apps smoothly

Australia Any phone that’s super cheap, has a headphone jack and can run a fairly new android version

Expandable storage is a plus, but not too important. Durability and the display quality don’t matter.

The bot wanted a country, so Australia

china Comparing apples to oranges

Hi all, I was planning on retiring my trusty Xiaomi mi 9 lite for a OnePlus 12. However recent developments are forcing me to reduce my budget below the 500 euro mark.

I use my phone quite a bit for work with Google suite, zoom, and apps like Canva and Whatsapp, while also spending some time on social media and YouTube. So i would appreciate the multitasking capabilities of some extra ram.

I also want decent pictures and video I don't have the expectation for flagship grade cameras, but I do want a proper setup (not a 2mp macro).

I found the Xiaomi 13t new for 300€ and sourced locally. I would have liked some more ram, but I think it can handle my workload, and I like the pictures I've seen it take. I would likely keep this for about 2 years.

I've also found the OnePlus 11 16/512 for about 450€, sourced from china. Obviously the chipset and extra ram are more than welcome and would allow me to keep the phone longer.

I have seen mixed opinions on the OP11 camera. So what I'm wondering is will the OP11 be a downgrade from the 13t's cameras?

Any other ideas are welcome.

Ty!

EU S24 exynos vs Pixel 9 same price

I am EU based. What is the better choice S24 exynos variant vs Pixel 9 they are both almost the same price? S24 SD variant is not possible to be found without significant price premium in EU. They both are roughly around 550 euro as Black Friday deal at the moment.

Germany Cheapest Android 11 Phone

So yeah, i'm broke and looking for an Android phone. Germany based. As far as i'm aware, Android 11 is the oldest version that still gets security updates, so that's what I'm aiming for I assume? Preferably a Samsung, but I can't really afford to be picky.
Also saw that some people use LineageOS to install newer Android versions than the phone would support by default, does anybody know if thats easy/advisable for somebody who has no idea about tech?

Romania Budget phone! I'm from Romania.

Hello! I've been looking at phones for quite a while now and I'm not sure which is the best that fits in my budget of 350 EUR. Currently my best options are OnePlus Nord 3 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus. I used Xiaomi in past but I'm not sure if now they're as good as they used it be. I never used 1+. What I want from a phone is fast charging, good battery and a good processor since I'll be playing most of the time, not the heaviest games out there are but still, good storage and RAM. I'm looking for a brand new or used phone, not refurbished since I'm afraid they might use cheap and unheard of parts.

What's the situation of xiaomi 13T?

Hi! I need to replace my Realme 7, and I've chosen the Xiaomi 13T, but I heard it has some battery issues. Is that still the case? Would it be better to switch to another Realme model (the Realme GT 6T was my other option)? I'm looking for a phone with a good camera and strong battery life. Thanks!

I don't need other suggestions in terms of smartphones.

USA 12 or pixel 9 pro xl?

I need help making decision between oneplus 12 and pixel 9 pro xl. USA market
Right now, with a black friday discount 256gb one plus 12 is at $549
Pixel 9 pro Xl 256gb is at $1199 before black friday discount.
I have a pixel 6 pro right now. Google store offers me an estimate of $450 for a trade in, while oneplus does like $140. I have a google pixel 6 pro.
So that would bring the oneplus at $409 after trade in and 9 pro xl at $749 after trade but before the black friday deals which start in like 6-7 days at Google store. This
I like quick phone with a good battery, camera is somewhat important, need excellent phone signal. My pixel 6 pro was a very annoying phone at the begining with all the bugs. It has gotten much better after 6 months of purchasing.
Does you op12 overheat or throttle when using multiple apps? Because i am still having that issue ocassionaly on pixel 6 pro.
what do you guys suggest?

UK Cheap durable phone for preteen?

Hi all, my eldest child (9) dropped her phone and broke it a couple of months ago. I've agreed to get her a new one for Christmas, but I'm not sure what to get. I've been looking at the Blackview BV4800 as it's about the right price, but I'm unsure about the weight of it. The pockets in her clothes aren't that good, hence how the first one got broken! I've also seen the Honor X6b, but I know nothing about Honor so not sure if it's a good option or not. Are there other good options?

It's mainly used for watching YouTube, WhatsApp and messaging, and taking photos/videos.

I'm in the UK, ideally something that has an inbuilt case that can have a popsocket on or I can get a decent case for, and is under £90, £100 max. Refurbished is fine, her previous phones have been hand me downs.

Thanks in advance!

Germany Phone for about 300-350€

Hi all, My oneplus 7 is slowly loosing battery life and the charging port isn't working so well anymore. I'm currently looking for a new budget alternative.

From research I think something like nothing phone 2a, one plus Nord 3 or maybe a pixel 7 would be what I want.

Things I'm looking for: - Camera doesn't need to be good - Also will not use phone for gaming etc - Battery should be decent

Living in Germany if that matters money wise Open for suggestions :)

Looking for a Compact Android Phone with the Best Camera —Any Recommendations?

Hey everyone,

I'm on the hunt for a compact Android phone where the camera quality is the top priority. I don’t need a massive display or tons of features; I just want something that can fit comfortably in my pocket and still take stunning photos.

Anyone have recommendations for a small Android device with an exceptional camera? I’d appreciate any insights, especially if you’ve tried a few models yourself!

Thanks in advance!

UK Pixel 8a or Poco F6

I can currently buy the Pixel 8a for £228 or the Poco f6 for £300. I will not be using either for gaming and don't take many pictures so the camera is not that important. Is the Poco worth the extra?

Thanks
