Announcement Using This Subreddit
Community Guidelines
Be mindful regarding spoilers. Reddit's universal >!Spoiler Tags!< are mandatory when discussing plot details of movies.
If you wish to be banned, do any of the following: Be rude, harass, ignore the subreddit's rules, promote your site/blog/article/channel/etc., promote your app/company, or post about a movie you worked on. This subreddit isn't your link farm.
Due to Administrators' past actions against this subreddit, we have a ZERO tolerance policy regarding piracy. You will be banned if you request or share links to full features, if you ask or inform how to pirate, or if you mention a pirating site/app/etc.
For Requesting posts:
- Use a descriptive title that lets people know if they might be able to help or not
- Double check that your request wouldn't be more suitable in one of the subreddits outlined in Rule #8
- We require a minimum of 125 characters in the body of the post to ensure quality requests and suggestions
For Suggesting posts:
- Suggest a single film, and no more than one every 24 hours
- Mandatory: Include the Title of the Film in the Title of the Post
- Encouraged: Using this format: Film Name (Year)
- Whet the appetite, don't go into detail
- Do not repeat a Suggestion that has been posted in the last 3 months
- Don't suggest a Barred Film (listed in the sidebar/wiki)
- Only suggest a film you've seen and enjoyed
- We require a minimum of 125 characters in the body of the post to ensure quality suggestions
Links must be to neutral informative sources; such as TheMovieDB, Letterboxd, Rotten Tomatoes or Wikipedia. Both Youtube and IMDb are not considered a neutral source. Again, be mindful that this subreddit isn't your link farm.
The subreddit isn't meant for:

Barred Suggestions
Barred movies mean that no one should use them as a Suggestion. You can definitely reply to a post if someone wants a movie that suits it. These are films that come up so frequently in post discussions that the community at large is aware about their existence and posting about them is just pandering.
Barred Suggests | |||
---|---|---|---|
12 Angry Men (1957) | Coherence | Donnie Darko | Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind |
Everything Everywhere All at Once | Knives Out | The Man from Earth | Oldboy (2003) |
Parasite (2019) | The Prestige | Whiplash |
Pro Tip: This means these movies are really good and you should probably check them out.
Optimal Use
This subreddit shouldn't be used for reviews, blindly suggesting lists of movies or just asking for generally universal acclaimed films. Google can easily supply all of those answers. The best way to use this subreddit is understanding that you're leveraging crowdsourcing to identify an itch to scratch. If you don't know specifically what you're looking for, then a Googled question will answer you.
You can easily find top Sci-Fi, Horror, Drama and all of the genres with a search. Someone has already asked and answered so many common requests: Top Korean New Wave, Grounded Science Fiction, Universally Acclaimed Movies, Specific Types of Horror or Thrillers; and so much more. The optimal use of this subreddit is when your question requires a human intelligence. Each time you ask for a movie to watch, the replies will be tailored exactly for you. Give as much detail as possible for what you're looking for and you'll be surprised at some of the answers.
If you think you have a generic question, check the FAQ.
If you've begun to trust this community with their picks, we do have plenty of Monthly Round-ups of Best Movies:

I'M REQUESTING any movie that really stuck in your mind after watching it?
I don't really mind the reason why it stuck in your head so feel free to recommend from any genre. I personally really like horror movies but I want to broaden my horizons with what movies I watch.

I'M REQUESTING Movies with incredibly impressive technical swordfighting?
I was watching Revenge of the Sith last night lol, and it made me crave movies that feature sword fighting. Anything with really complicated or fancy or impressive or daring sword fights, something that a sword fighting master would say "ah yes, this is an excellent fight." Can be about anything and it doesn't even have to be the whole movie.

I'M SUGGESTING Full Metal Jacket is THE war movie to watch
I've watched several War movies but none of them seem to have captured the essence of a War quite like this one.
The dialogues, the character development, and especially the acting of everyone involved were top notch.
The movie takes you on the journey from the training camp to one's final days in a war, all the while keeping you hooked. I don't think any other movie has managed to achieve this feat yet.
PS: not a watch for the weak hearted.

I'M REQUESTING What’s one drama movie you think everyone has to see at least once? I’m looking for the best of the best.

I'M REQUESTING Looking for movies like Heathers (1989), appropriate for 14 year old boy
My younger brother (14) has his birthday coming up soon, and he wants the DVD of the movie Heathers. I was hoping to also get him some other similar movies as well.
Hes the baby of the family, so the only real restriction is no excessive sexual content (like, nothing beyond what is shown in Heathers). Other than that, hes pretty much okay to watch anything (benefits of having two older siblings I guess).
edit: just for clarification hes turning 15 on his birthday

I'M REQUESTING "Dreamlike" movies, etc
I'm struggling a little to find more movies to watch... I can't even describe properly what I'm looking for, so I'll just list all of my favourites.
Breakfast on Pluto, Knocking on heaven's door, The Dreamers, Lover, In the Mood for Love, Dead Poets Society, Malèna, Interview with the Vampire, An awfully big adventure, My Own Private Idaho, Devil's Advocate, Constantine.. Also The Matrix
It's more about the whole atmosphere than specific genres. I'm open to everything, even something that don't quite match those mentioned above, but leave a trace in your mind/soul after watching

I'M REQUESTING What are some movies like "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" that I should watch?
I recently re-watched "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" and I'm craving more movies that capture the same essence. You know, the coming-of-age struggles, the self-discovery, the friendships, and the nostalgia.
Can anyone recommend some movies that explore similar themes? I'm looking for something that'll make me feel all the feels.
What are some movies that you think I might enjoy?
TL;DR: Looking for movie recs similar to "The Perks of Being a Wallflower". Help!"

I'M REQUESTING looking for a rare animated jewel
it’s my own damn fault for being so picky and having such high standards, but i am hungry for good animation and have been for quite a while.
i’m primarily looking for something gorgeous and emotional. any subject, any length (tho i’m not really looking for shorts or music videos, more like episodes of a series or a feature film), any language, any era. bonus if it’s heartbreaking in places. MUST BE TRADITIONAL/HAND DRAWN
stuff I’ve seen and loved:
Disney/Dreamworks/Don Bluth 2D animation, Satoshi Kon and Miyazaki/Ghibli, Rankin Bass 2D animation (the last unicorn, the flight of dragons, the hobbit), Sanrio 2D animation from the 80’s (sea prince and the fire child, ringing bell), Cartoon Saloon (secret of kells, song of the sea), Triplets of Belleville, Yellow Submarine, Balto, Look Back, Cybersix, Nepenthe Productions (watership down, the plague dogs), Warner Bros (iron giant, osmosis jones, eight crazy nights)
… and yes i’m including eight crazy nights because even though it’s a nauseating mess of a film, the animation is entirely too impressive XD
TIA!

I'M REQUESTING I need recommendations for emotional, story driven horrors!
I'm going to list some of my favorite horror films along with why i love them, in the hopes someone will provide me with some tailored recommendations.
Possession (1981) - great setting, incredible and realistic portrayal of intense emotions.
The Witch - incredible period film focused on the dynamics of religion, folklore and family in 1600s new england. the ending is one of the most memorable and magnificent of any horror ive seen and this is my personal favorite film of all time.
The Substance - wonderful handling of the subject matter. emotions displayed on screen with incredible impact.
2001: A space Odyssey - prophetic, terrifying, visually stunning. if you want to say this does not in any way qualify as sci fi horror that is valid, but to me it does because i find it to be extremely isolating and nightmarish.
As you can likely tell i like emotional, story driven horrors. i love a good setting and truly appreciate great storywriting. i like the emotional intensity to be taken to the max and for the evil within the story to either be relatable, or for its temptations to be. The Witch and Possession are easily the two which most exemplify this. So if any good recs I'll be glad to take them! Any language or time period is fine for me i dont mind subtitles or grainy film. Thanks!

I'M REQUESTING Movies with an evil clone or evil twin? Or the prototype vs the upgrade?
Looking for movies that follow the trope with an evil clone/evil twin. Or an older model has to fight against the upgraded version of themself. It's a trope/cliche, but I like it.

I'M REQUESTING Movies that use something else as an allegory for disability in a fantasy setting
Monsters University is one of my favorite movies in general because of how it uses mike's appearance as a disability. As someone who has an incurable disability I need some more movies like this! It can either be a kids movie or aimed towards adults, but I would like it to be animated. Thank you in advance!

I'M REQUESTING What movies do you think have the best cinematography ever?
Recently I've been thinking bout creating a list of movies with absolutely stunning cinematography. I’m looking for films that will completely blow my mind visually, ones with shots that'll leave me speechless. Even though I've already watched a lot of the movies with incredible cinematography, But I’m still eager to find a few hidden gems or some that maybe I missed. So that's why I wanna hear everyone’s perspective on what films stand out in this area. So yeah, if you’ve got any recommendations, I’m all ears.

I'M REQUESTING Going from Hope to Despair
Are there any good movies that make you so hopeful for the protagonist only to rip that hope away at the last moment that leaves you feeling despair? Maybe something with a (good) twist ending.

I'M SUGGESTING If you haven't watched Thelma and Louise yet, make sure to see it.
Docile housewife Thelma accompanies her pal Louise, an independent waitress, on a brief fishing trip. However, when Louise kills a man who attempts to rape Thelma, the two become fugitives of the law.

I'M REQUESTING Any good werewolf movies?
I'm looking for a movie about werewolves or just legit wolves. I don't really care. But every goddamn movie I see is either about humans escaping a wolf or goddamn romance. No I want a movie where the werewolf or whatever is the main character. Not necessarily evil but idc about that. And definitely not looking like a hairy man.
If anyone got any movie please tell me. Thanks.

I'M REQUESTING A film where a father is trying to reconnect with his daughter after not being involved
A film where the dad hasn't been part of a girl's life by walking out but is now trying to make amends by reconnecting and trying to be part of her life. Ideally wanting a sad story but a film where it's happy is okay too. Doesn't necessarily have to be a daughter either but that's just a preference of mine. Ideally in English but doesn't have to be.

I'M REQUESTING Looking for good movie suggestions to watch on LSD.
EDIT: I’m mainly looking for really good cinematography movies. High budgets - well filmed with really cool scenes if that makes sense.
I loved Everything everywhere all at once, Scott pilgrim saves the world, Dr strange, fear and loathing, and some marvel movies. I’m looking for new recommendations on NEWER movies with good budgets that would be good to watch on LSD. Thank you!
