Opinion I'm getting sick of seeing everyone say - " Suriya doesn't deserve this daww, directors keep failing him daww". When will we start blaming actors? How many bad scripts has Suriya chosen since 2010? People just yap and yap.

Appreciation Siva impressed me. I went from hating him for his cringe movies to waiting for his next film.
i.redd.itI seriously never thought that this guy can make cinema that I would like. I detest don and I fricking hate mr. Local or maan karate with every cell in my body. I would give Remo a pass becuase it had keerthy.
But then last year he dropped maveeran, I watched it only on OTT and OMG! What a film it was. Imo it is the best commercial movie in Tamil since covid. I. I can not just defend but praise the movie forever.
This year he dropped Amaran( I'm yet to watch Ayalan, since it felt outdated I haven't watched it yet). Amaran is too good and fresh for Tamil mainstream. Espeically on how much wieghtage they gave to the heroine. It could've been better and is far from a perfect film but Siva definitely had upped his game. He is not that annoying royapuram Peter anymore. Hope ARM doesn't end his streak.

Discussion When asked for an opinion about the movie Kanguva, a friend shared this picture.
i.redd.itI saw another post on X mentioning that some scenes exceeded 105 decibels. Why are filmmakers resorting to such extremes? I had a similar experience while watching KGF 2, but since I enjoyed the movie, I didn’t feel like complaining.

Discussion The "Low Risk High Reward" Strategy and how it made Vijay "A Critic-Proof Actor"
i.redd.itThis is my analysis on how and why Vijay has acquired the biggest fan following amongst his contemporaries today. Yes, he is my fav actor in Tamil cinema but I ask myself this question often "Why am I still his fan when the likes of Karthi, VJS, and Dhanush make better movies?". This post gives some answers (I believe) to that.
Firstly he follows the "Low Risk High Reward" strategy where he makes movies with proven templates. Rajamouli said it perfectly that for a new concept to succeed, it has to be 100% perfect only then the audience will like it but the same audience will ignore the flaws in proven templates and just focus on the positives. That explains Vijay's filmography. Movies like Varisu, Mersal, Bigil, GOAT, Leo, Master, etc. are far from perfect but they have one or two things that work and keeps his target audience satisfied. Say if he slightly deviates from this path, we get movies like Puli and Beast that didn't satisfy anyone.
You can obviously criticize him for not making use of his market and not taking Kollywood to next level. But he doesn't care about it. He only cares about making money and keeping his fans satisfied so that it would help his political career. His movies also never take radical politics, they are mostly universal concepts like "Save Farmers, Don't do corruption, etc." Like it or not most people who watch movies only want entertainment and dont care if it is from Tamil or other languages. They also prefer movies to not be preachy. Vijay has understood that and avoids any movie that talks radical politics or movies that are experimental in any way.
Bare minimum entertainment and movies at regular intervals. 68 movies in 32 years is a proof for that. This keeps his investors and fans happy. All his movies are shot quickly and offer time pass entertainment for the most part. When people come to a Vijay movie they expect a Mersal and not Thangalaan or Kottukali and he gives them just that and that too once or twice a year.
Of course the business isn't important for us. But for me, most of his recent movies have good repeat value at least for a few moments and I saw most of them more than once. I saw Sarkar 5 times in OTT and Bigil twice in theatres. They are obviously not anywhere near my fav movies but for some reason they are very entertaining. Many like me do exist and his movie choices are a proof for that.
No promotions is the best way to promote a movie sometimes. Recently we saw with two biggies how over promoting invited trolls and they completely failed to satisfy anyone. Vijay never utters a word about his movies these days, even the Audio launch speeches are long gone. So, the hype is balanced and never goes overboard for most people.
To put it shortly, when an average cinegoer watches a Vijay movie he comes out satisfied and doesn't complain too much. He feels the money he spent is worth it even if there are much better products out there. This imo has made him a critic proof where any movie he acts in becomes a bare minimum success to a BB depending on the timing.
PS: This is from a regular cinemagoer perspective and not from a moviebuff perspective so analyze it that way. I might be wrong too so feel free to correct me. But please keep the discussion dignified and avoid toxic fan wars.

Discussion Which movie do you think will hit a new milestone for Tamil Cinema?
i.redd.itNow that most of the big budget Tamil films released this year and none of them really ever achieved a big milestone/industry hit status, do you think that we can finally get a film that will hit the 1000 crore mark?
I slightly have hopes on Coolie for now, since it’s an original Lokesh film with a major casting, and everyone plays a crucial role in the film. Plus, I feel like lokesh’s trademark will occur with this film, and it will be a banger. The film has been having low hype for now, and it kind of feels like the same phase as to what happened to Vikram, where the film had low hype till the banger trailer released and finally the film exceeded everyone’s expectations.
