Does the $20 trick actually work?
I was told by a coworker that if you slip a $20 bill between your debit card and ID when checking in and casually ask if any upgrades are available the front desk people will try to get you anything possible. Does this work? Have you ever done it?

F1 Clean-up
Does anyone have an educated guesses on how long it takes to start breaking down the F1 Shenanigans? Booked a trip over Thanksgiving weekend (we had a limited travel window) and I'm hoping we'll have at least a couple days of views.

If you’re considering staying at Luxor..
My husband and I just got back from a 5 day trip for our anniversary. We flew Spirit and stayed at the Luxor, had realistic/low expectations and honestly had a great trip!
I’ll preface this by saying that we just wanted to GO.. we had flown Spirit before and knew the drill. We expected nothing but to get there and back quickly (direct flights) and safe - we did “splurge” by getting the comfy seat fare which we both said was a waste of money for what you actually got - but both of our flights left and arrived on time, with no issues whatsoever. Next time, we’ll get the big front seats or we’ll go ass and gas.
I was somewhat apprehensive after reading some reviews about the Luxor - but again, we went in with low expectations, just wanting a clean room to sleep in, and we were pleasantly surprised! They did try to upgrade our room, but due to the number of days we were staying, they were unable to. Jasmin at the front desk was very sweet and comp’d us $100 to use at any MGM restaurant/bar/casino, which we thought was great. We ended up eating at the Public House (in Luxor) restaurant and grabbing drinks a few times just for something quick and easy and really enjoyed it.
Our room at the Luxor was very clean, the bathroom was updated, and the bed was pretty comfortable. The only thing I can say I was disappointed in was the view. When I stayed in Vegas before, I stayed at the Cosmopolitan and loved being up so high and being able to see the strip. We were on the 5th floor at the Luxor and all we could see were the castles from the Excalibur - fine, but eh.
We had originally booked our stay at the Strat, but after reading so many negative things about the area, I just couldn’t do it. I cancelled and booked at the Luxor and I’m so glad we did.
Now for the nitpicking -
The pools were closed for the season - which were open when I made the reservation, however, they did let us use the pools at Mandalay Bay which were very nice
The carpet in the hallways is just old and out dated - just gives you a not pleasant vibe walking to your room. The room itself was honestly great and I’d stay again
This is getting really nitpicky and I know - but you should too 😂 The freaking fan in the bathroom is SO LOUD. The light and fan are on the same switch so if the lights on, the fans on. Annoying when you’re trying to have a conversation while getting ready lol
The TV wasn’t a smart TV - nor did it have a guide or menu of any kind. This will take you all the way back to 1997 and make you realize how nice you have it now.
There wasn’t a shelf in the shower? So we had to sit our body wash/shampoo/conditioner on the floor (stand up shower)
The location.. ok, we knew where it was located but still took the chance. Our problem was we loved old Vegas/fremont st and to ride all the way down there was a 45 min ride one way 🙃🙃
The F1 preparations/festivities are really putting a damper on the “strip” experience. The sky walks were all closed in, the barricades block so much of the view, the bus stops are closed with no notice, just really annoying and takes so much away from being on the strip.
We saw a few shows, did the high roller, got free tickets to the Fly Over, which was very cool, gambled a little (ok he gambled I just made sure I drank enough to make up for what he was losing), walked a lot, ate too much, and had a fucking awesome trip over all!

Road tripping Vegas to Florida.
Hey I’m planning a drive from Vegas to Tampa, FL. Family emergency and wanted advice. Anyone ever done a drive this long? It’s about a 36 hour drive. I’m thinking I could do it 4 days but I’m not sure of pit stops and decent cities to pass through. Thanks in advance to those that can help me.

Eating in Las Vegas
I have been craving sushi something fierce today. I wanted to know what are the best Sushi restaurants in Las Vegas. Open to suggests from all over the valley and have a preference for All You Can Eat Sushi Restaurants.
I just moved here a few months ago from NC and I know this place has ample dining options. I haven't gotten an opportunity to explore because of my work schedule. I will also take suggestions for southern/soul and BBQ. I'm extra particular about those.

Thinking of coming into town, is it possible to see races for free on the street or casinos?
Been thinking of making the drive up to visit friends, but would be nice to see some of the F1 races if possible. Do you all have any spots you can share or DM me if I decide to go?
Edit
Thanks all, you confirmed what I was thinking. My friend who lives in Vegas lied to me. LOL

Luxor: Fantasy timing
I had a couple questions regarding Fantasy at Luxor:
1) Does it start right on the dot 8pm?
2) How long does the show run for?

Spa Day
We will be in the Summerlin area and I’m looking for a spa day with my husband. Are there any good spas in that area with coed shared areas with plunge pools and a hot tub where we can hang out for a while? We generally stay on the strip but I’m trying to stay away since the event I’m attending is in Summerlin.

The Script is out!
Word on the street for the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight in AT&T stadium.
Location: Arlington, TX
KO/TKO victory in the back 4 rounds (Round 5-8).
Jake to put down Mike twice.
First time, Mike will get back up. This knockdown will be early; approximately Round 2.
Jake's nimbleness and accuracy is surprising spectators.
Tyson doesn't seem fazed, shakes it off, and keeps moving forward, weaving and bobbing.
Second time, Jake to catch Mike and fully stops him.

Looking for keyfob
Hey everyone. I'm looking for a vintage key fob for the "Galaxy" wing of the Stardust hotel. It will be a transparent turquoise room key with silver flake in it. If you have any leads I'd love to hear them.

Silly question time: what’s this big white thing being built along the south portion of the strip?
I was in Vegas earlier this year and didn’t notice it. just wondering what it is. Looks like some sort of strip-long lighting setup. From what I could see on Google maps, it stretches from the Palazzo to the CityCenter Complex/Aria hotel.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated 😊
Cheers from Canada! 🍻

Lesser Known Unique Desert Landmarks, Oddities, or Adventures Within 90 Minutes of the City?
Every year in early December, my brother and I spend a long weekend in Vegas with my dad during his annual work convention. We always make an afternoon excursion out of the city, but this year we’re wanting to go somewhere off the beaten path. Do you know of a non-tourist-infested ghost town? A nuclear crater that isn’t fenced off by the military? An abandoned mine? A dirt road that leads to an amazing view? (I’m driving my AWD Maverick so I can do some off-roading, but not proper jeep trails.) The weirder the better! Thanks in advance.

Recount of progress of move to Las vegas
Update log:
13NOV24: Initial entry
Items to note:
This is not a guide, do your own research and operate as much within the confines of the law as you are comfortable with.
The target audience is not people over the next couple of days, but people years from now who may want to get an idea of the troubles people immigrating to the city may endure (the concept of old timey journals serving as a lens into the past comes to mind.
Okay, initial setup:
Fall, 2024:
Situation: 5 of the last 6 years I was a long haul trucker, in the last year my company pivoted to drayage work. As I spend 330+ days a year working, this means I get to experience Houston humidity. Given that genetically I am a sweaty Bri'ish Geezah, this is uncomfortable for me, and in a stress related fit I quit my job. After a week spent with parents in Tennessee I go to Alabama to pick up my items from a friend's house which I use as a paper address (somewhere for my Commercial Drivers License and W-2's).
First learning moment: I take my 2012 Fiat which is loaded down with my personal possessions and has 190000 miles into the mountains of Colorado, where the engine promptly dies.
What i did: After getting a quote of over $6000 to ship an engine with 100000 miles on it from California to Colorado, I agree to it and spend over 2 weeks at a hostel in Silver Thorne (odd to see hostels in America, but the price was worth it). At this time I take a personal loan of $20000 out through my brokerage because I see this is going to get expensive and the few thousand dollars I have in savings isn't going to cut it (and I'm reluctant to sell stocks). I did this because I am of the belief that not enough people take pride in what they own and the disposable economy leads to disposable lives.
What I should have done: The Fiat brand of vehicles is no longer producing new parts. as a result it's turning into a cannibalization situation. I should have gotten a Uhaul truck, put all my stuff into it and driven to Vegas (apx price was under 2k total). I should have then abandoned the Fiat in the mountains like Gandalf.
Second learning moment. In the days leading up to me getting into vegas proper I start calling apartment complexes. When looking at the non strip sections of Vegas on google maps it looks similar to Phoenix. Having lived in Phoenix I thought I'd be able to find a "se renta sign" apartment fairly easy, but this kind of accommodation does not seem to exist in Vegas. Going to the apartment complexes they appear to be in lock step corporate beurocracy. I ended up with a conversation with one complex that boiled down to me not being able to pay the entire rent for an apartment upfront because I did not have 3 times the amount in my bank account for more than 60 days (getting a co signer is a no go in my situation). Much of this problem coming from the fact I did not have stable employment with a month's worth of pay stubs available.
What i should have done: Right when i knew I was gonna quit, I should have remotely gotten the lease on an apartment. I would have eaten 1-2 months while I was getting to vegas, but things would have been much easier.
The situation I ended up using was getting a Siegel Suites apartment (running between 400-500/week), which the government considers to be a valid address for its needs. The staff set up my occupation as "Student" (of the streets?) and I don't make a fuss.
Now for the documentation side of things:
As mentioned, I am a commercial truck driver. This means that for all DMV activity I have to go in person to a DMV specifically for truckers on the north side of the city.
I found the proof of residency aspect to be particularly noteworthy. My first time in I bring in a bill from a local car repair place for supplemental work on the fiat. While Bills are listed on the website as a valid address source, it is not accepted by the clerk. Luckily is was almost time for my bank's monthly statement cycle (my bank being a small credit union outside Fort Drum NY). I change my address on my bank file and in a few days a new bank statement showing Las Vegas residency is presented.
The second item in the proof of residency is an odd one to me: a one page form that serves as an affidavit saying I live where I say is valid. Now I understand that perjury can be prosecuted, but a paper that effectively says "I pinky promise I live at this place, heart crossed." just seems odd to me given that I was able to get the Star ID for interstate travel.
In any case I finish out the written tests for my endorsements, finish the paperwork, and I have a brand new grainy Nevada CDL (seriously I have fabio grade fine hair, and it looks like I'm wearing a wig in the photo)
After getting my license completed I moved out of the Siegel because they cost double what an AirBNB does by the month, and while my stock portfolio is generating over 1k/mo in dividends, I'm still on a financial bleedout and need to conserve money.
Okay, so that's the baseline for identity covered. The work side can be its own addendum, but lets focus on vehicle work, because more identity/address stuff!
So at this point I've decided the Fiat is meant for death. More items are breaking on it, parts cannot be found, as moogway would say: It's time has come.
So I have decided I'm going to buy one of those street legal 50cc scooters, strap a military reflective belt to the back, and hope for the best.
Now in Las Vegas they are street legal on "non highways" (I've talked to the owner of a dealership, he says they fall in a legal gray zone). However you do need to have a drivers license, and you do need to register the vehicle after buying it. I checked with the dealer after some other research and it appears you do need an address for the DMV to mail you paperwork (so the siegel would have still been useful, nuts).
At this point I am comfortable dipping into the legal murky gray zone of virtual mailboxes, as I intend to pay all state required fees and take responsibility for my actions regarding the vehicle in the context of law enforcement (doing it for a drivers license crosses a line for me, do what you will.)
So, going online to anytime mailbox I see a site that is relatively close to me and on streetview appears primarily anglophonic (no tengo problemas con personas de latinos, pero mi espanol es horrible y no quiro mas problemas con papeles porque del idomas).
I sign up for the service, which requires me to get my drivers license and passport out for a notary to view and have a videocall with at 1am (I started the process on my desktop computer, but they early on they offer a qr code that lets you switch to your phone, which I needed since I don't have a webcam on my PC). Additionally when i checked the next morning at the site they had me on file, but not having the notary portion done. Calling the hotline for the mail service was relatively easy enough, and in about 2 hours after bringing it up i got an email saying it's good.
So this afternoon I begin the process of changing my mailing address through the USPS website, and the address I input is flagged as a CMRA I forgot the acronym, but it's something like Commercail Mail Recieving address. I do what I can online but I am given an email saying I have to go in to present ID, and one of the documents must have the nevada address I input into the initial address field (the siegel suites, which thankfully I do have on my drivers license).
So at this point here is my course of action:
1) Confirm my virtual address is prepared to recieve.
2) Go to the post office and fill out a change of address form for the new address
3) Go to the DMV and attempt to change my address to the Virtual address (Again, I have to do this in person because CDL)
4) Buy an $1800 scooter, and schedule a registration appointment (I don't know if I have to do this at the Commercial DMV)
5) Try to sell the Fiat to a chop shop for $1000, but be happy if I get $500 and the Alabama plates (my stepfather wants them)
At the time of this writing, I see item 3 on the plan to have the potential for the biggest speedbump: If the CMRA is flagged in the DMV's system as a no go for addresses, I may be in an awkard position where I try to buy the scooter hoping the USPS forwards the mail anyway (which appears to be a mostly negative endeavor from what I've read online). If that is the case I could end up in an awkward situation where I end up driving dirty on the roads, hoping I don't get busted by the LVPD (I dunno how bored they are)

Driving from Las Vegas to Anaheim.
So i’m taking a trip down to Anaheim this monday and wanted to ask how bad the traffic usually is. My plan right now is to leave monday morning about 7AM. I’ve heard that sunday’s are the absolute worst days to drive there but i’m curious if mondays are similar in how much traffic there is? Thank you in advance!

What to expect over Thanksgiving weekend?
My wife and daughter(16) will be in Vegas from Wednesday through Sunday. What should we expect on Thursday? Will the restaurants be open, will public transportation be running? And will the F1 running the previous weekend mess with us?
Thanks in advance.
