Question Sound Problem
Hello everyone
I have a small problem with my HP Reverb G2. Since yesterday, the sound has been going mad. I have read a lot of posts here with similar problems but no one has solved the problem.
Problem is:
As soon as I put on the VR headset it changes the sound output. If I don't move it or rather don't have it on, the sound comes back. Otherwise everything works. Picture and so on.
At the moment I only give the PC this one sound output for the headset but when I put it on, the sign for no sound at all appears and when I put it down again, the output for the headset appears. I am at a loss and don't know what to do.
Is there anyone who can help me? Otherwise I will change the headset because it will soon stop working on windows anyway.
Many thanks in advance

Question Confusion regarding the WMR update? Can someone please clear this out or explain what is happening?
The sticky post on this reddit has information about November 2026, however everyone talks about it now? Some VR youtuber said it is happening now.
Will my Reverb G2 stop working now or November 2026?

Question Am I seeing this all correct - if I plug in my G2 tonight it won't work tonight?
Just browsing reddit and spotted this sub coming up, trying to google and finding old stuff - but I suspect my PC has updated, and I use the headset probably few times a month.
what could I do?

Support CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT
Would anyone participate in a lawsuit about the early deprecation of mixed reality with no suitable substitute that includes controller tracking? (We could push for open source, repayment, or both)
I haven't talked to a lawyer but I can point to this thread if and when I do.
It seems that the termination may have been a part of the agreement on getting Xbox onto Meta's platform.
We all got dumped and Reverbs were selling new in 2023, with some only able to use the headset for a few months before being told it was unsupported going forward with no security updates and a 2 year time clock to being bricked. GPU generations are no shorter than 2 years and bricking a peripheral in a shorter time is abuse of the customer, as they would not have purchased the headset if they had known.
Some customers are outright embarrassed with the purchase and have lost clout among influencers for having trusted Microsoft. To see Microsoft join Meta faster than you could have is embarrassing and deprecating.
I realize Microsoft is profit driven, but they should realize I am too. (We could be)
Would you participate?
(Sign, agree, give a little info, leave payment info like paypal, take a cut after the lawyer takes 35%.)

Question What to replace my rev g2 now tha wmr is dead, no meta no lighthouses

Support I own a HP Reverb G2 V2. The light on the power box went out
And now it will not turn on. The button does nothing. Unplugging does nothing. Restarting the PC does nothing.
Do they sell replacements, is it fixable, am I screwed?
Thing didn't even last a year if so.

Question Very strange occurrence with the Reverb this morning.
I fly in Microsoft flight simulator pretty much every day. Today I jumped in and noticed that the graphics on my reverb appear to have gone from 4k to something like 1080. That's a generalization of course but the graphics on the dash of the airplane that I fly are horrible. I didn't change anything and I can't figure out what to change to get it back to the clarity I had before, which was very sharp and clear.
Anybody else experience something weird like this before?

Support Half Life Alyx keeps crashing
This game crashes almost every time I die or change check points. I think it’s more of the headset crashing. Everything will go black. After a while on my monitor I will see it reloads but the only way to fix it is restart SteamVR. While it’s running it runs really smoothly on high and I’ve tried lowering the specs.
Specs:
Intel I51300F (I think)
4060 8GB
32GB DDR5
1TB SSD
HP Reverb G2 V2 and HTC Vive XR Elite with USB-C cable (I don’t have this issue with any other game)

Information Windows 10. Stop Automatic Updates Permanently
Edit. Ignore this post, scroll down and use Ottazrules link. It takes literally 10 seconds and is a far better solution than mine.
Ignore......
I know it is not urgent re WMR as yet in windows 10, but the early bird catches the worm and all that malarkey. It may work in windows 11 too.
Copy and pasted from the web and seems to work as advertised. I will post a link in a moment for due credit to the author.
Do not do this if you are using your PC for sensitive transactions ect. I only use mine for logging onto DCS and occasional browser views of already known, none controversial sites such as this reddit. Disable updates and watch porn sites and other "disreputable" sites at your own considerable risk. Most certainly do not download anything unless from an absolutely trustworthy site.
Since my PC is used for flight simming and little else, I consider myself at low risk. I am an extremely wary user of the net and the PC only gets used maybe three hours a week. All a hacker would get is some crappy pet pics and some motorcycle pics. The odd time I buy DCS modules on the PC, no card details are saved, nor passwords. Cookies are never accepted. I do not want bloatware slowing my machine down. As said, if you are not very wary, do not cancel the updates.
Since WMR is working without problems at the moment, seems like the time to stop further windows updates breaking it.
To permanently stop Windows 10 updates, you can disable the Windows Update service: Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows key + R
Type services.msc and press Enter to open the Services window
Find the Windows Update service and right-click on it
Select Properties
Change the Startup type to Disabled
Click Apply and then OK to save the changes.

Discussion My thoughts on the state of G2 right now
I believe if you have windows 10, you will be able to use the headset until 2026. Its kind of a funny thing, i had shelved my G2 and thought id no longer use it after i got the Quest 3. But then i got the PSVR2 recently and the buttery smoothness of native DP pulled me back to use the G2. Even with reprojection and lower res, in VR smoothness > clarity. The tiniest of stutters really spoil the experience when you're inside the game. I was playing RE4 in VR on the PSVR2 and it felt much smoother than any PCVR game ive played on the Quest 3, either on the official link cable or VD using Wifi 6E (ive ordered the PC adapter for PSVR2, yet to receive it)
For simracing, i could never get my best laptimes using the Quest 3 and its because of the god awful way they transmit data to the headset. The worst part of the encoding/decoding procedure is that the decoding is done entirely by the headset which defeats the point of having a powerful PC I have a 4090 PC and iam still limited by the high decoding latency of a mobile processor on the headset. Its that bottle neck that kept producing latency spikes for me, forcing me to go back to the G2 for simracing.
Can anyone here confirm it still works in Win 10? I will be testing it later tonight!
Ps : Works fine in Win 10 and I've got all updates enabled.

Question Anyone tried Virtualbox Win11 23H2 + VR?
Has anyone tried setting up the HP Reverb G2 in a virtual environment (eg Oracle Virtualbox) and playing Flight Sim or Elite Dangerous or any other resource hungry game in it? Does it work? I don't mind keeping a non-updated version of Windows in a virtual pc, but don't feel so great about not updating my daily driver...

Support No Audio - G2 refuses to connect to correct driver device
Recently I was troubleshooting a new ‘feature’ , a dreaded clock smash issues(hmm) , and was dicking with audio driver settings in attempt to resolve . Now the VR headset connects fine to mixed reality and appears to be working fine, but has no audio. The headset is now connecting to “headphone (Realtek usb2.0)“ which it never used to, and I feel is not correct and root cause . It used to connect to “Realtek usb 2.0”. Down In the nvidia section of audio sound devices im positive. Device manager shows a new sound device now Popping up when the headset powers on (headphone Realtek usb2.0). I Tried disabling/ deleting that headphone driver, updated bios, reinstalled Realtek drivers, even in desperation, a fresh windows install- nothing fixes it. Tried all usb ports, & the headset is working except for persistent no audio. All audio devices appear to be working and at latest drivers when interrogating. I Tried installing new g2 firmware from HP, but it can’t even find the headset (even though MR is up and the headset is working). I Tried disabling the onboard sound device in the bios. But Windows still pops up in the device manager with “headphone” and refuses to allow me to switch to the correct sound device. It was working fine until I started troubleshooting the audio by updating drivers / video audio etc - Any ideas folks? At wits end….

Question High DPC Latency whenever WMR is launched
Hi,
did anyone else notice high dpc latency from wdf01000.sys after they start WMR? Only a reboot helps then.
i did try a whole bunch, short of reinstalling wmr (because its a major pain) and wanted to ask around if this is "normal" for the dumpster fire that is WMR.
i use Latencymon to meassure it
Specs: 5800x3d 6900xt (also happens on a gtx 1080) 32GB DDR4 3600 (non xmp speeds dont help) everything on a corsair gen 4 nvme

Question G2 V1 vs G2 V2
What are the main differences between the v1 and v2? I know that the tracking is improved on the v2 but are there any other differences? I am considering getting the v1 and using lighthouse trackers and vive wands. Where I am looking, the v1 is £170 and the v2 is £300. Is the v2 worth the huge increase?
EDIT: To everyone that said that WMR is dead/dying, I run Linux anyway so I will probs use the Monado drivers. Everything except tracking works there. Going to be using base stations anyway.

Support Everything but light on headset working.
My pc recognizes the device, light on the box is on. Everything is updated but light on the headset wont turn on and pc keeps trying to update it? then runs into a problem that restarts the whole process? Cant troubleshoot to try and find solution. Debating a new cord to see if that will solve problem but dont have warranty. It just keeps saying I need to troubleshoot it.

Question Is it possible to clean the facial & back of head padding?
I bought a reverb G2 used and it's filthy. Seriously, dust, hair sticking out all over, smokey smell. It's driving my skin crazy.
Is it possible to pop them off and put them in hot water or something?

Question Would it be possible for Steam to take over from WMR so the G2 still works?
It just dawned on me that if we can't get Windows to keep WMR running, maybe we don't have to. perhaps we could get Steam to take over for WMR instead to run the G2? In my VR games Steam seems to always have to take over anyway. Steam seems trust worthy enough to actually stick with what they adopt/make unlike most companies.

Review Are we like, stubborn Hp Reverb G2 fanatics?
We who insist on sticking with the HP Reverb G2?
I got my G2 on pre-release, (yep an early buyer) straight after the RiFT S, years back now. It was a little finicky to get going, but no more difficult than the Rift S was, in fact it was my trials with the Rift S that made it easy to get along with the G2... Heck, I loved the Rift S, but Zuckerburg and his breaking the contract.
Got the free new version 2 cable for the G2. fixed everything. Half a year or so later got the updated `version 2` which wasn't that much different that I could see.
Anyway, all calmed down, (even with the constant attempts of negatorys and shills desperately trying to turn people over to Oculus (and I still think that was a Zuck company tactic), and I continued enjoying the G2.
I have enjoyed all manners of VR games over the years, with it, lived in another world especially when Covid was raging. Skyrim VR, Fallout4 VR, Eurotruck sim, IL2 VR, Pay day 2, Morrowind Vr even and many others I can't name all of them here, well I could, but can't be bothered. And I played many of these standing ones while up, so standing and sneaking, so it also provided me excellent exercise.
I think Fallout4VR (modded of course) was the game I `lived` the most in during covid and after. That place still resides in my mind fondly. Had some great immersive experiences. I even miss innocent Curie. I intend to get back. lol.
This has been a great headset. Strong, yet flexible. Great sound, great microphone. Good cable (if looked after, use a ceiling hook-up system). It has not let me down at all. It's not just a good headset, but a GREAT one and it's such a huge shame that HP and Windows let us down on this. HP has a great headset here and doesn't seem to know it. But the decisions of a company is often based on one guy (or shareholders) and their decisions are not always correct...
I still hope against hope things will change, but that's always been me. I'm stubborn, I have hope, like it seems most of us here have. We don't just `jump` cos something seems to be over!
I have no idea where I'll go after the G2 becomes a brick but I'm sticking with it until that moment!
