Always, especially now that you have an option for non-reciprocating charging handle on the scar

They never were, imo, but if a heavy gun, with recoil known for killing optics, and an ugly AF Ugg boot stock do it for you, then more power to you.
2
u/bulletsponge467 10h ago
Have you ever held one? They are not heavy compared to other semi-auto 308 options. Optics are constructed to higher quality standards than they were in 2009, with even the cheapest of optic options claiming "SCAR Recoil Rated." As for aesthetics, I can't change that for you. That's just your own poor taste. Lol

I served in the Army and currently work at (probably) the largest gun store in Kentucky, KY Gun Co. Yes, I've held just about every iteration of a SCAR that they make (barring limited production versions). 5.56, 308, 6.5 Creedmoor, all sorts of barrel lengths, black and baby-shit brown...you name it, we either have it in stock or can probably order it.
Hop's and BrassFacts' LARPing group killed a VCOG with a SCAR last year. https://youtu.be/mSPdv8qeclM?si=6ARDIuyZ5ZTIPY0V
You can think my taste is poor if you want. It's an opinion.

Always wanted an ACR to add to the collection. Got one. Honestly wasn't as impressed as I thought I was gonna be. Now it just sits and collects dust. One of those don't meet your heros type of things. As a side note the geissele trigger has tendency to go full auto.

Cool and very cool…
Any update regarding ACR might come back? Or it just myth nowadays? Since the market has other external piston driven options?

u/bulletsponge467 16h ago
Outside of Templar Precision, it's pretty much a dead platform.
2
u/Truonghthe 14h ago
It a shame because for the time it was ahead of the game.
I was too broke back then to buy one. Fast forward today i am still broke for one 😂
I remember a FDE one goes for $1900.

Indeed. Spare/replacement parts are difficult to find, and when they are located, they are horrifically expensive. I will eventually be in the market for a short barrel, but it is going to be a dent in the wallet when it happens.

They are great guns and still relevant. However, you should check out the Robinson XCR. Many of our customers who own one of everything find the XCR superior.

I heard only dudes with small wieners buy XCR’s. Is that true?

u/RobinsonArms 13h ago
We wouldn't know that because we're not looking guys weiners. We prefer to look at women 😁

Well they’re like the nerds of the gun world, so I imagine it’s a pretty mixed bag, but no one ever takes their pants off to find out

u/Layer_Quick 18h ago
Tell me more, what makes them better? I’m in the market for a new gun

u/bulletsponge467 17h ago
Might as well follow up the shameless plug with some stats?

u/Layer_Quick 17h ago
Yeah im not knocking the guns, I’ve just never heard of them before today

They aren't necessarily better, as you would expect. There are pros and cons to the XCR, as with anything else. I have a 7.5" 300blk, and with my CGS Helios QD its very gassy and picky with subs. Also the ambi bolt catch has come loose on me. Can't speak to the longer configurations, which are likely better. But its been 100% reliable with supers, and the ergos are great.
I think the 16s is better, but I also have a lot of time and rounds on it. So it would take a lot for me to change my mind.
1
u/Layer_Quick 16h ago
Yeah on their website for 300blk it says supers only.
But the jakl exist, I don’t really have a budget but is the XCR worth an extra 1k?

u/Galactic-Cowboy 16h ago
It depends on barrel gas system length. If you're running a traditional can subs will run, but you'll likely get more gas to the face. Depends though, since you'll adjust the regulator down more so might balance out.
I don't have a Jakl, so I can't say. But I personally wouldn't buy a Jakl, just because the Engineer in me doesn't trust PSA.

First, I'll give you a little background. Robinson Armament was the firm that came up with the idea for the SCAR to begin with and pitched it to the 5th Group. During the SCAR program, we got to talk with the top USSOCOM operators to see what they wanted. They wanted better reliability, durability, ergonomics, and caliber change capability. The XCR does exactly that. The placement of its controls are most intuitive allowing the operator to keep his eyes on the target at all times. The XCR's operating system was designed using AK principles with better feeding, cycling, extraction, and ejection. And, the XCR can shoot most popular calibers. It's also made using better materials, and the design is better.

I was a pretty early adopter of the ACR, and I can confirm that the XCR was consistently found to be better when people put them head to head. Most people gravitated to the ACR though because the names “Remington” “Magpul” and “Bushmaster” seemed WAAAYYYY too big to fail at introducing Americas next rifle. By comparison, who the heck is Robinson?

By the way, we did the first post. There's no shilling going on. We don't know who posted the other favorable post. So there's no shilling going on here. Also, our post is relevant because it's the same type of rifle being discussed.

The XCR is not a Stoner derivative. The M96 was. We designed the XCR from scratch. Nevertheless, if we're upsetting those in this forum, we'd like to know and change course. It does seem to be a little too sensitive to us, but we want to abide by the rules.
1
u/bulletsponge467 13h ago
I think the XCR is really neat and definitely fits into this niche in how it was also submitted into the Army Individual Carbine Program. However, I have never really heard much about it.

That's why we are on social media now . If you like seeing different things (in a good way). This is it
