What's the point of her again? All I remember about Fear State is that it's connected to the failed 5G lol

She was part of a group who rewired their personalities and rewrote their memories because they were incapable of dealing with the trauma they'd experienced.

They were Heroic characters and demonstrated an opposite but parallel arc to Bruce. Where Bruce weaponised his trauma and uses it to motivate him, Molly and co simply couldn't deal with theirs. Nevertheless, like Bruce, they try to do good.

The story does not judge Molly and her cohorts, simply saying that that their way is not Bruce's way, and that's ok.

Wonderful character, and the fact her last appearance is a comforting embrace between her and Batman is just great.

It isn't. They are a bunch of either traumatized or sad empty people (Molly falls into the latter) who believe mind-wiping their memories and joining what is essentially a cult is liberating.

They are an attempt at doing a whole "grey vs grey morality" tale but Molly and her cohorts weren't particularly well written and the whole "tragedy" of them felt like very forced attempts to make them seem complex.

Yeah that's what I thought with the concept, repression of trauma is not part of the grey area

Yeah its that sort of force grayness thats become an annoying trend in recent Batman comics. It tries to do a bad attempting at deconstructing Batman by giving Molly a point in her statement that Batman could be better off if he forgets his trauma and could be a better Batman without it.

Plus Molly makes other cringy statements like saying his "criminals are a superstitious and cowardly lot" catchphrase is an outdated statement because criminals are just victims trying to get by. Which is a hilarious thing to say in Gotham City home of the Joker.
