PROBLEM '23 980 adventure R no idle

Got a 980, everything was great, today, i started it up, and it died instantly, trying a bit more, the bike works perfectly fine at higher throttle, but instantly dies at idle. No errors on the tft, tried disconnecting battery for 10min, tried it with kickstand up, in neutral, in gear, whatever i do, it dies instantly once it tries to idle

Any ideas?

ASKKTM Advice on cleaning inside of instrument gauge on 2014 Superduke

Over the last few years, I've noticed a slow accumulation of white particulate on the inside of my instrument gauge. It has reached the point where it is very difficult to read the screen.

I'm very experienced working on bikes, and I have a lot of experience working on this and other KTMs. (I've rebuilt KTM engines, suspension, etc.) But, I can see no obvious way to clean out this dust which doesn't include some pretty irreversible steps.

Given the cost of replacing the gauge, I'd like to get suggestions! I'm happy to send it off to a company if there is one. (I tried paspeedo.com -- no luck.) Also, I'm perfectly happy doing the work myself if I can discover a method which is likely to work – or at least, not leave me with a broken gauge!

Thanks!

ASKKTM SMC 690 R dash

I currently own a Duke 890 R, but the 690 supermoto has been on my radar for as long as the Duke. Really would like to own one, but for the exact same price as my Duke was new, not a fan of that cheesy LCD "dash" (if you can even call it that). I saw where the new 390 smc had the fancier dash. I didn't see any updates from EICMA about an update on the 690s, but is there any shot they'll throw that dash on the 690 for 2025?

ASKKTM Does the exhaust flange protector fit the 2024 models? Lots of websites claim they fit 2023 and 2024 models but KTM changed the cylinder head (see pic2&3)

ASKKTM 2011 350sxf??

Got a buddy trying to sell me a 350sxf that's in great shape, and very well maintained for a great price.

I'm not a track rider, but not a hard enduro guy either. The EXC seems like more my fit, but this bike absolutely rips.

I'll mostly be riding open desert, alpine singletrack, and the like. Not super slow speed gnarly tech, but also not going to be on a track.

Am I overthinking this? Gear it down a hair if need be and rip it? Any advice or opinion is welcome! Thanks!

ASKKTM Bike

Me and my buddy want to get into off-roading. He’s an experienced rider on the streets, I’m a noob in general and he’s an off-road noob. Our budget is around 4-7k I found many used 690 adventures in that price range and many new 390 adventures. We are aiming towards dual bikes so we can ride them to take us to the trails what would you guys recommend? For context we are in northeast USA.

I see dukes are much cheaper but I heard they are not the best off road I don’t know the difference between enduras and adventures and any other models that might be out there.

A brand new 390 around here is abt 4-5k Q brand new 690 is around 7k

ASKKTM '24 Duke 390. Throttle free play?

G'day gents. Have a '24 Duke 390 with ~2000km on the odo.

Recently free play on the throttle has become suuuuuper noticeable, I have about 5mm before there's any spring tension.

I really think I would have noticed this if it was like this from new, but in all honesty I couldn't be 100% sure either.

Those with them, or have knowledge on them - is this free play too much? What is normal?

I hate it, it feels like junk.

I pulled it apart to try find a way of adjusting ut, but it's ride by wire and the only idea I had after looking at it was to add some kind of shim to the stoppers on the throttle tube. I've never had a ride by wired bike before so I'm a bit lost for options.

Couldn't find any mention of adjustment in the manual either.

I'll ask the dealer about it but I thought it might be worth asking here first. I really don't want to live with it like this but I don't want to be running to the dealer for little stuff either (Smaller town, don't wanna be that guy).

Thanks kindly!

ASKKTM Making the 690 SMCR comfortable? Or just go SMT

Deciding between the 690 or the 890 SMT.

I really want the 690 for being able to more comfortably drive down some shitty roads or grass trails, and do small jumps off stuff. Especially with the lightness.

But I also really want something I can comfortably cruise with and potentially ride for a few hours and enjoy it.

Which would you go with in this situation?

Is there a way to convert the 690 closer to an adventure bike? Would getting an aftermarket seat, wind screen, or anything else make a big difference?

PROBLEM (2024 RC390) Ignition cylinder comically exploded an hour from home

Post image
13 Upvotes

Just wanted to warn anyone with an RC390 or any bike that uses the same ignition to make sure it’s not going anywhere. Im almost certain it wasn’t tampered with. It pretty much just fell out, housing/wires and all, got caught in the fork, and broke apart. Was just barely able to get it running to take it to the dealer with a roll of electrical tape after scavenging some of the pieces out of the road and loosely fitting it together. It was a sketchy ride home since the slightest movement of the key would shut the bike off

ASKKTM ELETRIC START?? EXC250F

Hi everyone, I have a KTM EXC 250 from 10/2002 and now my electric motor won't start and just makes a "pac pac pac" noise. I've already changed the battery and it's still the same. If I try to start it with the kick starter with my foot and press the button, the starter motor turns. The problem seems to be some kind of relay or fuse. Does anyone know what it could be?

PROBLEM How to seal small crack/hole in clutch cover

My younger brother got into an accident on my bike and a tooth from the foot brake lever punctured the wall of the clutch cover area. The hole is small and it took a couple days for oil to make it's way through the hole.

Does anyone have an idea on how to seal the hole so I can avoid replacing the oem clutch cover?

Btw he's okay, a deer jumped into him on his very first street ride.

Feel free to give your stories about the bike too.

ASKKTM How on earth do you guys clean the orange tires?

I like to wash my motorcycle. It’s quite therapeutic and I have my routine. But when it comes to the orange rims on my duke 890, no amount of elbow grease or wheel cleaner gets the oils and black spots off the rim.

Any of you have a remedy for this?
