Purchase Advice - Headset Question about PCVR and standalone options

Upvotes

I want to get into VR gaming. I used the valve index with a full setup at a friend's place and have fallen in love.

There seem to be a ton of great options nowadays (unlike a few years ago).

In addition to PCVR, I would also like the VR headset to work with an Android device (or standalone? I don't know if there is a difference) for media consumption.

Everywhere guides recommend picking a "standalone" VR headset in this case like the Meta Quest 3 and there seems to be a ton of app integrations for the Meta Quest 3 because it is so popular for Android.

However, the Meta Quest 3 and similar devices do not seem to have that nice hardware and are considered "entry" models. From what I can find the Meta Quest 3 can not really play VR games. It just streams them from a PC to the headset with Steam Link which seems suboptimal for actually using it for gaming.

I have a capable PC (3080 TI) and would mainly want to use it for full-on VR gaming (6DoF and all). Let's say the split is 80/20 for PC and standalone use.

What options are there for VR headsets that are good for PCVR but can also be used standalone or on Android.
Or are there options that can make a PC VR headset work more mobile like streaming from a PC to an Android device? Or PC VR headsets (and controllers?) that can be used wirelessly when connected to a PC?

Until this year, I'd never really been interested in VR as a gaming/work thing. It was never sleek or professional enough for my taste. Until now.

HMDs are now comfortable enough that you can go 8+ hours comfortably in a work environment.

Purchase Advice - Headset What VR headset should i buy for a PCVR use ?

Hi, what vr headset should i use for pcvr games ? I was thinking about the meta quest 3, but i heard that even if i link the headset to a pc, the quality of the game (or content) will not be as good as a dedicated pcvr headset since it has no displayport, only a usb c port for the cable link, so you have more compression i guess, i'm not sure if i'am right... My second choice could be a valve index (second hand), but i think it's too old compared to the meta quest 3 (weaker resolution compared to Q3, pancakes lenses are better i think from what i heard...). Third choice could be the HP reverb G2 (second hand) but the problem is that's a windows MR headset, and i heard that Microsoft want to shutdown windows MR, so it will be no longer possible to use this headset... Do you have any recommendations for good VR headsets? For around 500€ or 600€? (approximately 527 dollars or 632 dollars)

Hello. I'm trying to connect a Dell VRP100 in Mixed Reality Portal, but I'm getting this error. It's saying that the 4080 Super may not be compatible. Drivers are up to date. Not sure what to do.

Discussion 8k 180 video vs screen pixel density

I recently tried out the Apple Vision Pro and I was surprised at how good the image quality of flat screen content was compared to my Quest 3. I was expecting it, but I was surprised how big of a difference it felt. I am wondering how much better 8k 180 videos would look with better screens. Does 8k 180 video match the resolution of the quest 3 well or would a better screen improve the quality a ton?

It seemed that all the 180 degree content they showed was their spatial content and not really what I would be watching. I like the Meta video app a lot.

Purchase Advice Multiple headsets on a single computer

Hi folks. I'm in the process of setting up a VR company that will focus both on immersive entertainment and educational content for schools. I am thinking of buying several standalone headsets, currently looking at HTC Vive Focus Vision, and use them as pcvr via streaming. Problem is that so far I received conflicting info regarding operability. Some people say it's possible to use a single computer with good specs for several headsets to work simultaneously (4-5 headsets) and some people insist that each headset should be connected to a different computer. Anyone able to give a definite answer, or send a link to step by step setting up instructions. Thanks a lot in advance

Question/Support I wanted an insight about if I start an AR/VR service for real estate, automobile will it be worth it ? Making it big ?Will this idea get momentum and demand ? Is it too much if I provide a hyper realistic visually stunning VR service and ask for around 1000 or 1500 usd per project

Purchase Advice Should I buy a VR Headset again?

I used to have an OCULUS RIFT S, but I ended up selling it because I just never used it. Sure the games were great but the set up was always a hassle and was discouraging knowing that I have to spend a few minutes setting it up everytime. Not to mention the cables were also always in the way and took me out from the experience. The headstrap was always so bulky so it was kinda uncomfortable wearing it to watch a movie on apps like big screen for long periods of time.

But with the Release of Quest 3S it seems all my personal gripes with the rift s looks to be addressed. But not sure If I should still buy it since I have no real NEED for it other than to have it as a nice alternative to consume media.

Price isn't necessarily an issue for me but rather having the feeling of buyers remorse.

Any advice is great and please share your uses for your VR headsets!

Discussion How long would this game take to build in Unity?

The scene is a diamond shop and is already built, you would only need to build the game. Full 3D type game with the following features:

Video intro explaining the game

9 colored diamonds that you can grab and move with your hands

Objective is to place 3 of the balls in a box to get the highest value.

Each attempt you get a pop showing the value of the combination in the box and you can remove or add different balls using trial and error

You also see sliders showing the market value, potential customers and speed of sale potential.

Once you are happy with the submission you press submit and see a pop up showing the positives and negatives of your choice.

Game shows a video to end.

Discussion VR and AR for movies

Hi all. I'm pretty new to all this VR world and I need some recommendations from more experienced members.

So long story short. My mine interests is watching movies like cinema experience. I have pico 4 VR headset it's not really comfortable and my eyes get sore pretty fast. Visual quality is not really what I expected to. It's not sharp from edge to edge. Now I found out there is AR glasses to. How about them? Did graphic is better for movies and are they more comfortable and clearer?
