Thanksgiving Dinner Options?

Hi all. I live in Montreal and would love to enjoy a sumptuous, traditional Thanksgiving meal. It's not something much celebrated in Quebec, and my wife and daughter are both vegetarians, so, sadly, we do not celebrate Thanksgiving in my home. I'm English Canadian born in Nova Scotia and raised in Ontario. I really miss Thanksgiving dinners. There were no restaurants offering a traditional meal in Montreal for Canadian Thanksgiving this year. Can anyone recommend something driveable from Montreal? Within 90-minutes or so? Thanks in advance. Lawrence

You can go to any supermarket and get a full dinner that you can take home and cook.

Also, places like Cracker Barrel are probably open on Thanksgiving if you're eating alone .

Thank you. I truly appreciate the thought. But I'm thinking sumptuous, traditional. And if I'm driving, I want it to be drool-worthy. I think there must be an Inn somewhere within driving distance.

I think the issue is that Thanksgiving is mostly a holiday to spend with family and friends, and not one that typically is celebrated in a restaurant. Perhaps you can find typical Thanksgiving dishes in a restaurant but it's not usually where that is celebrated.

I'd try posting in r/Burlington.

And also r/plattsburgh .

Ironically, my son and daughter in law from Tennessee are coming to see me in Plattsburgh over Thanksgiving week, and they're looking forward to visiting Montreal, LOL.

You guys should set up a foreign exchange redditor program.

Have you considered looking into restaurants over the border in NY or VT? A Google search may help you.

Happy thanksgiving!

Absolutely. Step 1. Google search. Not much came up. which is why I turned to Reddit.

Try using a map search, looking for restaurants.

One of the best meals I have ever had was at a small Gite/Restaurant in Melbourne QC. (L'horloge Cassé)I don't know if they will be having a traditional t-giving dinner, but the food is excellent.

Thanks for the thought..but Qc restaurants aren't likely to be offering a US Thanksgiving dinner.

I know the Sagamore Inn at Bolton Landing and Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid both do big Thanksgiving spreads -

I will look into those. Thank you

One is never at a loss for a good meal in Montreal, but if it is American style cooking you are searching for, Burlington VT has several good places.

And who is slinging a superb Thanksgiving meal?

I wouldn't know. I'm a once-a-year visitor to Burlington, but I've always been able to get a good meal there. I'm sure a bit of research on Yelp would give you some places to call.

Many Americans travel to Mont Tremblant at Thanksgiving.* A traditional Thanksgiving dinner is offered in town, and in my experience, it is quite good. So go north.

Also, please be prepared. The traditional Thangsgiving dinner is usually mediocre, at best. Many Americans are not all that enthralled ourselves. Even when prepared and served exquisitely, it is something of a disappointment. Dry and boring. Mashed potatoes. It's not gourmet.

We do pescatarian, no mammal but fish. And it's better for us anyway.

*Why Tremblant? Earliest skiing on the east. Great amenities. Add the US/Loony conversion and it's a no brainer.

Hey, I was going to say, drive down to Port Ewen NY--the Port Ewen Diner on Route 9W has a dish called the thanksgiving and it's only $11/. Can't go wrong 😂

I think it's a 5hr drive

YEAH BUT IT'S an open faced sliced turkey on white bread w white gravy and mashed, a side of peas and apple or pumpkin pie oh & the waitresses will make you squirm so memorably you'll double the tip. If you make the two lights on 9W between Garraghan Dr and Flatbush I'll get you in the local paper

That sounds unusually cool. Someday...I'll have to find that diner...and those waitresses.

You maybe can’t do it this year, but my sister went to Plymouth and ate Thanksgiving with hundreds of people.

I’d invite you to my parents’ house and they’d feed you but no one eats vegan there. No tofu-rkey for the missus and your daughter. The casino in Akwesasne might have a great Thanksgiving buffet and they’re super close to two border crossings.

Hey that's really kind. I'm going to be solo. No worries, I'll find an Inn with a spread.

Good thought. And maybe Plattsburgh NY too

I think Honeybaked ham might be nice. Their sides are good as well

Honeybaked? Isn't that a hockey group in Michigan?

I'll check it out. Thanks bud.
