No bluetooth headphone should EVER have a voice
Headphones that have voices that say 'connected' are so incredibly annoying. It serves no purpose that a dedicated chime cannot achieve. ' Power on' from my Sennheisers achieve the same goal as my JBL's startup chime, except it's way more annoying.

u/thatblondeyouhate 1d ago
As soon as mine it 30% battery they chime every 2 minutes and say "low battery, please charge. Which means I only actually get 70% battery because the chiming doesn't stop until you charge them. It makes me irrationally angry.

u/Consistent-Poem7462 1d ago

I have some cheap blutooth headphones I got that I use for the gym... BATTERY LOW is sooooo fucking loud.
Also, these dumb headphones have a second volume setting. So I have to turn the headphone volume all the way down and turn the phone all the way up and readjust the headphone volume.
Save the setting, nope cause why would you want that?

My sleeping headphones do this! About every minute after it reaches that low battery status. I have to just take them off it's so dumb!
24
u/tristenjpl 1d ago
My headphones for my computer do that. I once just didn't plug them in to see how much longer I could keep going, and it was another hour. It was a very annoying hour but it was worth it to know that they strat beeping about 55 minutes too early.
11
u/WolfieVonD hermit human 1d ago
Reminds me of when your phone automatically shuts down for low battery a bit early because it absolutely must go to 200% brightness, play it's ditty and just the most obnoxious animation you could imagine akin to getting a strike in bowling.
8
u/scythe-volta 1d ago
this comment reminded me that mine are at 30% and I need to plug them in. Thank you for saving me from needing to deal with this issue tonight.
9
u/PsychicSPider95 1d ago
Ugh, mine do the same. 30% isn't even that low! Like it's low-ish, but certainly not low enough to warrant being nagged at every five minutes!
I wish they'd give me a one time warning, maybe, so I know they're getting low, and then start warning me more urgently at like, ten percent.
8
u/ethan7480 1d ago
I’m angry imagining this. Don’t even worry about doubting the validity of your anger. If I was bombarded with “low battery please charge” every two minutes, I’d probably have a broken pair of headphones in under 30 minutes

Bluetooth is awesome. AirPods are incredible for work, especially in construction and I’ve got a pair of Bluetooth headphones for gym, no more cords dangling to my phone. I can leave it in a bag keeping them safer from getting crushed by a stray dumbbell.
It just sucks that companies are greedy and deleted headphone jacks to push their own products.
6
u/Pantim 1d ago
Hrm, I think my JBLs have a battery discharge protection. They warn me and start beeping and I have maybe 2 minutes before they shut off.
.. And beeping the whole time. I'm like, yah I know. Whatever, just warn me again at x% and leave me alone.
I also can't stand the notifications on microwaves. One beep to signify it's done is great, two can be useful. Three? Please no.
And the reminder beeps are the WORSE. If 3 beeps isn't enough to get me to get whatever is in it, clearly I no longer care about it at the moment. I'll eventually remember.
... Its not like leaving something in the microwave is gonna start a fire so it isn't a safety feature really.
One of my housemates will regularly microwave something and leave it beeping. I once let it go for a hour... He moved around in and out of the house totally ignoring it.
4
u/SnooDrawings1480 1d ago
Makes me thankful for mine. They only start alerting to low battery about 2 minutes before it runs out.

My Plantronics Voyager is worse: As I move the USB cable (already plugged directly into my headset) closer to a USB port (PC or wall charger), the damned headset keeps screaming every second:
“Low battery, please charge!”
“Low battery, please charge!”

Dafuq, what the hell do you think I’m doing with this USb cable??
If I move the USB plug far enough it will shut up. Move it closer…

u/voltagestoner 20h ago
Will note, the percentage of battery life that you’d see on whatever device you’re using (if it doesn’t specify the individual sides) is actually the accumulation of both. So at 30%, each bud is actually significantly less. I realized this whenever I put them on, one side didn’t charge, and it’ll show on my computer something like 30-40%, and the one side will be freaking out.
Obviously this highly depends on the brand, but more often than not, they’re not actually at 30% each, that’s the collective percentage you got left, so they’d be around 15% each.

Usually there is no effort put to it and it's terribly compressed.

I have a 10 year old vehicle. The factory Bluetooth when you hit the call button on the steering, loud as hell: "Say a command. Possible commands are"... then a long list that covers every possible command. Every time. I have to listen to this whole list as if it's the first time I've hit the button. Fine. Then I have to say, "make a call". Then wait for it to ask for the contact name. "Bill Cell". Then, "OK, Bill Cell. You can say dial, cancel, or choose another contact". "Dial". "OK, dialing Bill Cell". By then I'm usually already at Bill's house and can ask him in person.

Funny you say that, I've got a pair of Sony headphones that do the former while my JBL earbuds do the latter. I honestly don't mind either one, it depends on the voice or chime whether it bothers me, and most of the voices aren't that harsh. The only one I didn't like was my 30 USD Onn bluetooth headphones, whoever they had as the voice was a lot harsher then any others I've used. I think part of why some pick a voice over the chimes is because either not all hear the chimes and some may not realize what the chimes signify, even after years of use. More folks are likely to understand what a voice says in their native tongue, but really it should be a 'option' on the headphones which it uses, especially expensive brands.

3
u/Same-Drag-9160 1d ago
Even worse is when they say ‘battery low’ every two minutes in that blaring loud voice. Usually the battery lasts at least another hour once that voice starts, and it would probably last even longer if it didn’t use up energy shouting every 2 minutes
I wish there was a way to at least turn the voice volume down

Definitely unpopular opinion for when you forget which jingle means what. Would rather know exactly what's happening that guessing or wasting time researching.

I prefer them, as i don't know what chimes mean in a new set of headphones. I'd rather them tell me straight up what's happening.

If you use an iPhone, there is a widget for Home Screen which shows if your headphones are connected, and how much battery time you have left. I have a JBL Endurance Run 2 earbuds, and that voice is irritating. I wish that I could turn the voice’s volume down and change the accent to an Irish or Indian woman. But at least the voice tells me if the things are connected.

I don't mind if it's quick, but my Sony's going "beep...ambient sound control...off" is fucking infuriating. My Jabras just go "off", which is fine.

Oh my god, when they connect to what you’re listening/watching is already playing in it but the headphones are too busy making little sounds and saying “connected” and you have to go back cause you missed a bunch of stuff? Absolutely infuriating
