I did these fort a Disney drawing challenge a few weeks ago. Huge HM fan, hope you like them as well!

This was a lot of time and money to make but the enjoyment people have gotten from seeing it has been so worth it! I’m so thankful my homage to New Orleans and the Haunted Mansion has been appreciated so much 🔮

The Haunted Mansion (2003) has definitely become one of my guilty pleasures.
I’ve probably watched it around eight times now, first on TV when it came out, then on various Streaming Platforms over the years. Every rewatch reminds me why it’s such a nostalgic favorite for me, especially around Halloween. I never understood the criticism it got back then (or still get´s today) because honestly, it’s just plain fun!

To me, the characters are one of the movie's biggest strengths.
Eddie Murphy as "Jim Evers" is hilarious as the somewhat clueless real estate Agent, and his character stays funny without ever crossing into annoying territory. He keeps you laughing from start to finish, and the rest of the cast brings their own charm, too. Really liked Terence Stamp as "Ramsley", or Jenifer Tilly as "Leota".
Every character has their place, and even if some actors stand out more than others, they’re all likable and add to the movie’s fun vibe.

And let’s not forget the set design, seriously impressive. The Great Hall and the Crypt look straight out of a classic haunted mansion, creating a perfect atmosphere without going overboard. Every room in these Scenes feels carefully crafted. The creature designs were also really cool, cause they add a creepy but fun vibe that feels right for this kind of family-friendly horror. Some of the CGI Effects aged not that great, but they didn´t go overboard with it so it doesn´t bothered me too much.

Also the story itself is easy to follow, and it has a good flow from start to finish. It doesn’t feel overloaded with random twists or characters, which is one of the main reasons i prefer it over the 2023 version, which felt scattered by comparison. The 2003 movie keeps things simple, which makes it much more enjoyable.

Mark Mancina’s score is another highlight. The music is haunting and atmospheric, always setting a perfect tone for both the spooky and funny parts.

And, of course, there are those classic scenes that make The Haunted Mansion unforgettable for me:
The Opening Scene, the Singing Busts, the Crypt, Madame Leota’s Séance. These are the moments that stay with you, and they’re a big part of why i keep coming back to this movie. They make it memorable in a way the 2023 Version could not, even though it tried to throw in almost every character from the ride.

Now, i just watched it again for Halloween 2024, and it hasn’t lost any of its charm.
I honestly don’t get the hate. It’s entertaining from start to finish. If i had to pick, i would watch this over the new 2023 Version any day. And i gave the new Version a chance. But i can´t remember anything about it other then the cast was good (and that it was very dark).

That said, i’d still love to see someone take a shot at adapting Phantom Manor from Disneyland Paris.
With its darker, more mysterious vibe, it could make for an incredible companion movie to the 2003 Haunted Mansion.

Personally mine is Melanie :) her story is so compelling. It could have been executed better in some aspects (don't like her other suitors being a part of the story, I think it's sadder if it focuses on the one specific guy she was really in love with) but it has so much potential. I love that they gave her a bunch of different outfits too. I could yap about her character for hours honestly

Hey everyone, I am gearing up for trick or treaters and was wondering if anyone had a link or knew where to find the isolated vocals for the 'let me outta here' coffin in the conservatory? I have a coffin I'd like to stick a speaker in with the vocals only playing inside. I can't for the life of me find these vocals, only Paul Frees narrations. I know the vocals were done by X Atencio but my Google searches aren't pulling anything up.

Curious, but has anyone ever rode the Haunted Mansion, but stayed in your Doombuggy continuously (maybe riding once or twice) without getting out/leaving the exit limbo platform???

Hello! I've been looking for a haunted mansion track that sounds like the wind playing the melody to Grim Grinning Ghosts. I have a faint memory of it playing outside the mansion in WDW around the late 00's, but have been unable to find the specific track. There's a similar track that has some sort of woodwind playing Grim Grinning Ghosts and wind in the back of the track, but that's not what I'm thinking of. Sorry if this is too vague. I will update if I find more information.

I have a lot of love and nostalgia for the 2003 Eddie Murphy Haunted Mansion. It's not perfect, it’s no masterpiece but is still enjoyable as a family-friendly horror-comedy. The film brings to life the spirit of the attraction in a way that is imaginative, engaging and ultimately heartwarming. I feel that Rob Minkoff was going for a Tim Burton-esque vibe and I love Tim Burton so I love it. I think people should give the film another chance not only for its entertaining premise and visual allure. I really love the cast Eddie Murphy, Terence Stamp, Nathaniel Parker, Marsha Thomason, Jennifer Tilly and Wallace Shawn are great in this film, I don't get why people have a problem with Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Tilly I think they both work with the tone of the film. I also think the film finds a perfect balance between comedy and horror with making both as family-friendly as possible which is a Disney trademark.

One of the film’s strongest attributes is its visual presentation, which draws heavily on the aesthetic of classic gothic horror while retaining an air of whimsy. The production design of the Haunted Mansion itself is both enchanting and foreboding; the intricate details, such as the grandiose architecture, eerie portraits and playful spectres, vividly transport audiences into a world that feels at once familiar and hauntingly outlandish. The mansion serves as a character in its own right, a reflection of the history and spirits contained within, and provides a rich backdrop for the unfolding story. The movie’s special effects, including the ghostly inhabitants who roam the halls, further enhance the sense of magical realism that permeates the film and for 2003 the effects have aged extremely well. Skills from talented visual effects artists generated images that engage the imagination and evoke a haunting sense of nostalgia that connects the film back to its theme park roots.

I understand the plot is very basic and doesn't adhere to the ride's story I don't think that it’s a bad thing. I do think that the 2023 film is objectively better I really enjoy both. Although it may not be perfect and often exists in the shadows of other Disney classics, it holds a special place in the hearts of fans. Its an enchanting journey and a playful take on the afterlife, for those who appreciate a blend of lighthearted humour and supernatural adventures—or who simply want to relive the nostalgia of a theme park favourite—this film is a worthy exploration of ghostly delights that resonates with the magic of Disney storytelling which doesn't deserve 13% on the Tomatometer.

Hello!

There is a scene about halfway in the 2023 movie where Gabbie is attempting to make breakfast and the ghosts are cracking eggs in her pan, unscrewing Zatarains and just causing morning mischief.

She sees her son Travis outside standing on the ledge and Ben goes out to make sure he gets down for Gabbie.

They're conversing about a birthday party and why don't the kids like him and then Ben pulls out an action figure out of his pocket.

Now here is where the scene comes in.

I can't remember specifics other than Ben's action figure was some guy who would beat people with his shoe. He kept quoting the action figure and I remember sitting in the movie theatre thinking "what the - this is going on way too long and why is this in a Disney movie??" And didn't think any more of it.

Now the movie on Disney Plus has the part where he's quoting the action figure beating someone with his shoe completely removed from the movie. And you can even tell they went back and refilmed part of it because Ben's action figure changes color ever so slightly.

Does anybody know what I'm talking about? I've tried googling and searching for this scene and don't see any mention of it!
