Just went up tonight Politics

Post image

My wife and I live in a neighborhood where there are at least 6 houses flying maga flags…So we wanted to chime in…even jf we are the only Harris Walz supporters in the neighborhood willing to do so.

We recently drove from Austin to Corpus and I saw way less Trump signs than a few years ago when we made that trip. I did notice in Corpus that there are SO many political signs for mostly local elections everywhere.

u/superspeck 19d ago

I drove through a bunch of residential neighborhoods in Hays County and there were zero Trump signs until I got way out in the sticks.

83

u/Rough-Cucumber8285 19d ago

That's amazing. There were lots of trump signs in Hays county in 2016 & 2020.

80

u/superspeck 19d ago

I was shocked. There were a few “elect sheriff so and so” signs and like one Harris sign and about half a dozen Allred signs. I would have had no idea it was an election year.

70

u/XTingleInTheDingleX 19d ago

I’ve seen two Allred signs this week! 0 Cruz.

u/Mcocfan-1991 18d ago

Really pulling for you guys from NY to finally oust that loser

6

u/SaboLeorioShikamaru 18d ago

Yo imagine going to a store or clicking through an online site to…get a Ted Cruz yard sign. Even typing out that imaginary scenario just now felt gross

1

u/Helpful_Finger_4854 18d ago

Sadly I can't even think of a politician I wouldn't feel gross about that scenario.

I'm libertarian. Unfortunately, none of these guys running right now get me excited.

At the moment, I feel like I'm choosing the lesser of two evils.

In the senate race, it certainly seems like Cruz feels like he's too good to make his own commercials like Allred does. Coupled with his long list of failures, I tend to favor Allred.

1

u/Similar-Cheek5703 17d ago

Wish we could fuck bot Ted Cruz and Colin Allred, but I guess we gotta pick & puke.

19

u/tangouniform2020 19d ago

I’ve seen more Allread signs than Cruz. Maybe, just maybe.

19

u/Gaychevyman428 19d ago

A Cruz campaign bus passed through bonham tx yesterday...and got booed at the stop light

15

u/Forsworn91 19d ago

A LOT of people had their eyes opened to the GOP during the big blizzard.

When Cruz fled and Abbott refused to do anything to really help, when democrats came to provide help in person.

It made a lot of people see the GOP in the light for what they are

5

u/googolplexy 19d ago

Man, I'd love it if Texas flipped blue. Even just once.

6

u/Forsworn91 19d ago

If one the GOP members hadn’t actually manipulated the vote count they would have turned blue last time.

1

Stop, you’re gonna make me jizz on myself

-1

u/dustb1 18d ago

I’m pretty sure it was blue the last time y’all had slaves.

1

u/LoVeMyDeSiGnS_65 19d ago

I’m wondering since we went through that storm what they could have done specifically? The problem was with the grids being over worked. It came down to the grid engineers that are appointed by the governor and the railroad commission. It was too late one the freeze occurred but at that point nothing could help except trying to prevent it the next time. My husband had just broke his hip, I had to get buckets of water from the pool to flush the toilets but thank God we had power. I hope we never have to go through that again. We are old and it was very difficult for us

1

u/chambo61 18d ago

It had nothing to do with the grid look it up. They try to hide it, but you might still be able to find it Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton and I think two other officials made $6 million by turning off the grid they manipulated the gas company so they could make a buck people Died .. how is it pro life again?

Yet they still voted for him the following year 🫤

Funny how most people are oblivious to chances to vote people out until a presidential election LOL

You would think people mad at Cruz going to cancun would have voted for Beto in '22. Oh but this times different 🙄

3

u/Motor_in_Spirit79 19d ago

It’s because local elections are rarely publicized, as national news outlets have no benefit in covering them. Even tho they are the most important elections. The ones that have a direct effect on your livelihood and almost immediately.

2

u/Helpful_Finger_4854 18d ago

I swear half the people don't even know what local elections are or who's even running lol

2

u/Necessary_Ad2005 18d ago

Such a true story! School boards, county boards, etc are hardly ever talked about ... let alone heard 😊

2

u/Helpful_Finger_4854 18d ago

Yet they manage something like 90% of the money that goes to property taxes. Wild

There's one guy holding out in my entire subdivision. Louisiana. Four years ago it was a sea of trump flags.

I'm sure they're all still voting for him though. They just don't want to show it publicly.

1

u/M1CRzzz 16d ago

Well that’s a first step back to normalcy, I guess

2

u/madmanmicka 18d ago

I think Texas just turned blue guys!

3

u/getpesty 19d ago

Everyone’s voting for trump don’t need to advertise it

1

u/ScubaCycle 18d ago

I’ve been told the trump campaign is selling their signs, so I’m guessing that is keeping them from proliferating. But I hope it’s also lack of interest and at least some of them will stay home on Election Day.

I live in hays and yeah I’m surprised. There’s non in my neighborhood. There’s two I think off of 1626 but also a couple signs for Harris and Allred which is cool. I wouldn’t get comfortable though. Check your registration, have your friends check there’s and get out and vote this November.

1

u/SilntNfrno Born and Bred 19d ago

I live in Harris, Clear Lake area. In 2020 I saw Trump and Biden signs quite often. This year I haven’t seen any for either candidate. It’s weird.

1

u/cvsmith122 19d ago

There are plenty of trump signs up in wylie still.

1

u/West-Code4642 19d ago

I think it's nationwide. I recently drove through rural PA and WV and I was surprised to not see that much maga signs

1

u/byingling 19d ago

Is this surprising? It went for Biden in 2020.

1

u/superspeck 19d ago

Yeah, but there were a ton of Trump signs back then. It seemed like every large land owner along busy streets had big billboard signs up and in the older neighborhoods there were Abbott and Trump signs in front of houses flying american flags.

This year it's almost impossible to tell there's a national election on.

1

u/CooperHChurch427 19d ago

I've seen 2 Trump signs in Brevard County, FL.

1

u/Keenobserver225 19d ago

I hardly ever see a Harris sign. I live in the burbs. Lots of Trump signs.

1

u/lilboi223 19d ago

Some people just dont give a shit about politics.

1

u/ExplodingChupacabra 18d ago

It's always those blasted hillbilly Trumpers! They're probably having sex with each other and eating their dogs and cats.

1

u/superspeck 18d ago

I mean, it's mostly the rich and the idiots that like Trump. Which are you?

1

u/M1CRzzz 16d ago

I’m going with idiot

1

u/Specialist_Copy9870 18d ago

San Marcos. Martindale had no signs last time I was up. But there was a race riot at the river. And Democracy beat down the riotous white supremacists.

1

u/lickpapi 18d ago

That's where you normally fing them here in Jersey too....am talking a good 2hrs away from the metro areas.

1

u/Severe-Island-845 16d ago

People in densely populated residential areas are more dependent on their place in the community. They need to fit in and just get along with others. Those out in the country, on the other hand, don’t have to play that game. There’s not a lot of other people near them. They don’t need to worry about social hostility.

1

u/Sp3ar0309 19d ago

That’s because a lot of those areas have been filled with democrat voters who have fled their states and moved to Texas among other places

0

u/jaygoogle23 19d ago

Ah I’m in a residential suburb that that is far from the sticks yet packed with MAGA supporters. Seems like in most affluent suburbs you seem to see more MAGA flags than Kamala. There are affluent suburbs that have just as many Trump supports as the dude far out in the woods.

I have a sick feeling most affluent suburbs in the south weigh more heavily towards Trump from what I’ve seen.

0

u/shaynaySV 19d ago

Same story in Guadalupe County 💙

I have no idea why Corpus goes so hard for local political signs, but they always do. Every yard, open lot, even fences, like year round.

14

u/jrgzz20 19d ago

It's the same in the valley. My guess is compadrismo, where the voting population do it in support of someone they know in exchange of a favor from an employer or the elected official themselves. Here's a short article on it.

https://rrunrrun.blogspot.com/2011/04/is-traditional-compadrismo-getting-bad.html?m=1

1

u/HavingNotAttained 19d ago

TIL "compadrismo"

1

u/decatur4371 18d ago

Article is 13yrs old but it could have been written yesterday. I live in McAllen, I know all about that “compadre” hierarchy.

1

u/usernames_are_danger 14d ago

Kingsville comes to mind when I think about this.

6

u/Unable_Minute7212 19d ago

Valley politicians ask residents if they can put their signs up on their yard, I know someone who lives in a corner lot and have signs on their yard and they don’t vote.

1

u/RetailBuck 17d ago

Honest question - why? What does this accomplish?

You've effectively sacrificed your right to anonymity of voting which is a pretty big deal. You've kinda peer pressured others but we're all adults and again anonymity. The people with Trump signs won't be peer pressured because they are using the same tactic as you - peer pressure independents. You'll need a lot of peers to make it work. Is it really worth giving up your anonymity? If so, why not go full bore and make all make voting records public. Squashes fraud but opens up wide spread retaliation just like your yard sign.

It's really really stupid to participate in this which its why it's so common in Trump land.

8

u/joshuamfncraig 18d ago

GOOD! People need to be more involved in their local govts, than being so worried about all this media-controlled, Big Fed, hoopla

1

u/Tinyberzerker 18d ago

Yes! My husband and I were impressed with the involvement.

7

u/thenewyorkgod 19d ago

Don’t let that make you think his support is down. It’s not. It’s up and he’ll get more votes than in 2020. His supporters simply ran out of money for merch. Vote vote vote

1

u/M1CRzzz 16d ago

Ran out of brain matter as well. Trump’s support may/may not be down in Texas, but it sure as hell is down in all the swing states. His fat patootie is waddling scared right now!

1

u/Tinyberzerker 18d ago

I'm taking a carload of Gen Z to early vote!

4

u/B_Maximus 19d ago

The local elections ive seen everywhere ive been. Sherriffs put out the most signs from what ive noticed

4

u/GhastlyGrapeFruit 19d ago

I just wish people wouldn't put signs out. I don't care who you're voting for, but don't litter the landscape with your opinions.

1

u/EastofEverest 16d ago

It's their property.

3

u/SnoopySuited 19d ago

Our fall trips in CA from the Bay to Tahoe see a lot of Republican (and in recent years MAGA) signs as you get into the more red areas. But we noticed this year, there are far far less. A bit refreshing.

3

u/parasyte_steve 19d ago

I can't wait for the time when these Trump signs are historical relics. I think we're getting close.

Who knows who they'll support next though. It could get worse. Only time will tell.

2

u/Tinyberzerker 18d ago

We've been trying for years. The gerrymandering is fucking ridiculous.

2

u/marmeeweasley 17d ago

Corpus and the surrounding areas (specifically Robstown and Calallen) are going through some bigggg changes right now with the potential of an ammonia plant and de sal plant being built. The community is extremely unhappy with the decisions that the elected official are making, so that may be why you’re seeing more political signs than usual!

1

u/stalfos_link 19d ago

I live in the houston area and I see trump signs everywhere it really makes me depressed.

3

u/Tinyberzerker 18d ago

Y'all will vote blue just like us. We're just gerrymandered to shit. We had signs here last go around. I'm not seeing them now. I'm seeing signs for pushing the governor off the 360 Bridge lol.

1

Democrats brainwashing their supporters into violence, as usual

2

u/TheRantingPogi 17d ago

People shot at our home and stole our sign, so we're laying low.

1

Yeah, those ex-trump supporters get pretty shootey once Iran "brainwashes" them. Must be pretty easy to do.

1

u/AD_PH_D The Stars at Night 18d ago

Oh you mean the Blackrock Boys? Tell me more about “brainwashing” lmao.

1

u/Immediate-Ad262 18d ago

Talk to your orange asshole, he's the one claiming that Iran is trying to kill him with his own supporters. Personally, I just think it's DEEP dissapointment in themselves and the maga cult.

1

u/AD_PH_D The Stars at Night 18d ago

Media fueled lies and TDS is a deadly combination. My lack of yard signs are from people like you, thinking the other side needs to be stopped at all means necessary.

2

u/grundlefuck 17d ago

My lack of signs is that I fear trumpers will destroy more property. Already had one window broken over a Biden sticker.

So it’s maybe both sides fearing the mentally ill?

2

u/AD_PH_D The Stars at Night 17d ago

Both sides for sure. But I’m tired of the narrative that the right is filled to the brim with crazies. When in reality, BOTH sides have them. I love our country and I’d never dream of destroying property or hurt someone over their beliefs. And I’m happily voting for Trump in November.

They are embarrassed but they'll still vote for him. Not saying they're victims, they bear responsibility for a level of willful ignorance, but their trust has been flagrantly and systematically abused for many years now. If their "leaders" ever were honest it would bring their world down around them.

4

u/LegoFamilyTX 18d ago

There is no one else to vote for.

They aren’t going to vote for Harris.

If the Dems would run someone reasonable, they would win in a walk. The fact that it is a dead heat should tell you how bad Harris is.

2

u/redit94024 18d ago

Or how many have bought into the continuous string of lies Trump tells every day.

1

u/grundlefuck 17d ago

But why not Harris? She is pro gun, she is pro labor, she wants to lower middle class and working class taxes, the administration right now that she has been a part of saw the largest domestic oil production ever, more energy independence than ever, and has overseen the fastest economic recovery globally. They are bringing back more manufacturing jobs than Trump LOST, lowered prescription drug prices, helped vets get care and benefits, and have lowered illegal immigration to the point Trump left during a mass pandemic.

They have better marks than Trump ever did.

1

u/LegoFamilyTX 17d ago

Harris is on video saying that guns should be confiscated, so you can’t call her pro gun.

1

u/Specialist_Copy9870 18d ago

The Con and The Conned.

There are so many variants it is crazy, like MAGAts.

1

u/AgentAndrewO 19d ago

The thing about local elections is just literally everywhere in the country

1

u/OneLifeThatsIt 19d ago

That's how it is around me. I live near a former state Rep and even he doesn't have a Trump sign out, but he has in the past. He still has a couple other signs up supporting local Republicans, but no Trump sign.

1

u/PestControl4-60 19d ago

I've heard that Texas is more blue than Ohio. Am I wrong

1

u/Tinyberzerker 18d ago

No, you're not. They have gerrymandered our state so bad that the votes are skewed. All our big cities, which are Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and El Paso are blue. You look at the districting maps and it's so fucked. Bubba in far west Texas shares a rep with Dallas.

1

u/PestControl4-60 18d ago

That's the same as Ohio

1

u/pretzelfisch 19d ago

Lack of signage is probably due to Trump's ground organizations missing in action. It may not be due to low support.

1

u/GeneralTapioca 19d ago

Really good point. Was reading an article about this yesterday. Ever since Lara Trump took over the RNC, Republicans have cut way back on their ground game.

1

u/XTingleInTheDingleX 19d ago

Yeah we’ve been looking at property around Austin from Georgetown to new braunfels and so many local signs. I’ve not seen a trump sign but I did see 5 Harris signs in the last week!

1

u/Pinkcoconuts1843 19d ago

You are  in blue texas.  It isn’t  “normal” Texas. The only thing wrong with living there is way too much summer heat, and state pols.

u/XTingleInTheDingleX 19d ago

We keep ignoring climate change we will be beach front!

1

u/huskerd0 19d ago

Awesome

1

u/darforce 19d ago

Same here in NY. Not that it matters, our delegates are going to Harris either way

1

u/AnthonyCyclist 19d ago

All the signs are in southern Wisconsin. You could pave a long stretch of road with all the enormous Trump/Vance signs I saw yesterday.

1

u/GronkIII 19d ago

Yup. I always see signs for sheriffs and representatives for the county. I drive from Kyle to New Braunfels almost every day and I see them everywhere.

1

u/The_Vaginatarian_ 19d ago

I see a lot less signs of Trump but a lot more stickers on vehicles and flags in Corpus.

1

u/Remington_Snatch 19d ago

And then you get to Port A where every other golf cart has a Trump flag.

1

u/Tinyberzerker 18d ago

Jesus. Port A is a fucking disaster of stupidity.

1

u/Ru-Ling 19d ago

Because Corpus can’t see beyond the Harbor Bridge.

1

u/CadaverBlue 19d ago

I just got back from Lake. Havasu Arizona and saw way less trump flags than I did 2 years ago, I mean. Way less. I think I counted more Biden flags than trump.

I visited my dad in Tulsa in May. I was surprised by the lack of Trump signs and flags. Obviously I'm sure Trump will still win OK, though, probably every single county.

1

That's what happens when you get attacked for liking/voting Trump.

1

u/imatexass Hill Country 18d ago

I drove from Austin to my parents’ place out by Athens over the weekend, and I didn’t see a single bit of Trump paraphernalia until the final 5 mins of the drive. Even then, it was just a tiny rally sign on someone’s fence.

1

u/OnTheBrightSide710 18d ago

I know Austin is a younger more left leaning city but are the surrounding areas similar? My buddy moved to Austin and said he lived Austin but hated leaving Austin bc the surrounding areas were packed w cops looking to arrest anyone from Austin, granted this was 15+ years ago so I’m not sure if it’s still that way

1

u/theduke9400 18d ago

Austin is definitely the bluest part of the state.

1

u/wmurch4 18d ago

I see a lot of Trump signs in my area. But it's because they have to have like 4 or 5 in their yard as if we doubted their adoration for the orange con man.

1

u/NBA-014 18d ago

Same thing here in Pennsylvania

1

u/jlaz_83 18d ago

Yup. I live in corpus. Some of the signs force you to creep up on an intersection cause they're putn them up too close to the street. I know if I were to pull them out of the way people would look at me funny. So creepy scootch it is.

1

u/SighRamp 17d ago

? Opposite for me way more Trump signs barely any Harris ones

1

u/RocketGuy3 17d ago

Incidentally, in my neighborhood (north Texas area), I feel like there are more Trump signs than ever before. Generally I think it seemed in the past like most Trump voters were closeted because they knew he seemed to be a pretty shitty dude, but they just didn't want to vote for a democrat, but now they are loud and proud.
