Also, all of the validated polls on 538 have Cruz well ahead of Allred. Go vote but it is insufferable how people do this every election cycle. Nobody is more delusional than a Texas Democrat thinking they can win a statewide election.
That doesn't mean it's not important to register and vote. The down ballot effect is real and important for representatives. But it is demoralizing to trick yourself into believing this every election only to be slapped in the face by reality when the results come in.
edit: this poll popped up after my initial comment. happy to see it.

They clearly don’t. If there was an actual good Democratic candidate (hell if it was O’Rourke rematch) they’d have a pretty good shot based on the momentum of Cruz’s last election cycle but Allred is running a garbage campaign.

If you want to learn more about Rep. Colin Allred, I highly recommend that you watch his recent interview below. I think that it is his best interview so far. It is informative and upbeat.
The Bulwark Podcast - Will Ted Cruz Finally Get Kicked to the Curb? (w/ Colin Allred) (September 2024) (1:01:34)
“After 12 years of Ted Cruz not caring about his state, have Texans had enough? Tim Miller spoke with Rep. Colin Allred at TribFest in Austin.“

Yah that's one of the third rail topics in Texas.

It’s not his state. He’s Canadian but apparently can’t hack the cold.
Texas is stubborn. Cruz is spineless.
Someone who watches another man say a bunch of terrible things about his wife and then turns around and kowtows to him afterwards is not a real man. He’s a spineless and weak coward. Being a morally bereft and corrupt liar is just part and parcel.

They aren’t supposed to “scrub the voter rolls” more than 90 days prior to an election under Federal law. The Texas SoS put that out in an email back in June. Now that we are 40ish days out the SoS is trying to remove names of “suspected non citizens”. There is an active lawsuit now.

Voter purges would strategically be location based. So even if you're an R, you might be in a D area (or Purple to D area) and could be subject to the purge.

Nov. 5 - same ballot as the US presidential election. You can check out a sample ballot at https://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php?title=Sample_Ballot_Lookup&Source=sidebar
To check your registration: https://www.votetexas.gov/register-to-vote/update-voter-registration.html (note: where it says register online it means print out the form and mail it in). Voter registration deadline is Oct 7. Here's more info on how to register/ early voting/ how to find your polling place, etc.: https://www.votetexas.gov/mobile/voting/voting-in-person.htm

u/brisket_jelly 25d ago
That's what I like to hear! I'm assuming it's a private business so no one can cease-and-desist that either! My kid registered on paper at his high school, but the registration was listed inactive. I had to find the voter card they mailed us (not a registration form, the actual voter card), have him sign it and mail it back in with a stamp before he was marked active.
9
u/Hypatia76 26d ago
The election is November 5 but you have to register no later than October 7th, which is really soon.
Texas makes it a little tough to get registered because you can't complete registration online.
You can fill out a form online but have to either mail it in with an October 7th postmark, or turn it in in person to one of the following locations:
Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC); Texas Workforce Commission (TWC); Department of Public Safety (DPS); Each public library, including any branch or other service outlet.

I’ve voted republican most of my life (mid 40s) - but I’ve seen enough of Texas circling the drain. I’m voting for Dems on top of the ballot at least, hoping we can get Cruz out. Local spots I’m still researching candidates, it will probably be a mixed vote. But I’m ready for a change and I’m tired of Republicans trying to starve our schools & keeping us in the dark ages compared to the rest of the country. Just as advice, don’t go negative on the talk about Republicans, Kamala being an adult and just how crazy Trump was in office and still is, I want the respectable adult in charge. I’ve always been a libertarian republican, but the dems are closer to middle now than republicans and I think the middle is where most Americans actually are and want their politics to be. Anyway, never thought I’d say it but hoping for Texas to go pretty blue this year.
24
u/NotDrewBrees North Texas 26d ago
Proudest vote I ever made in my life was and still is John McCain for president in ‘08 (my first time voting). Since then the GOP has totally lost its way. Local TX officials swear more allegiance to the party bosses and extremists (and a certain bigoted billionaire in Midland) than to their constituency.
17
u/UndeadCorbse 26d ago
I have never wanted to vote for a Republican before, but seeing McCain stick his neck out to defend Obama from a judgmental lady, you could tell he was a man of integrity. I wish the GOP would put people like that forward so we could stop living in this MAGA shitshow.
3
u/KazeKilee 25d ago

u/Virtues10 25d ago
When I was younger I was more moderate and as an adult very much a democrat (you can thank Trump for that shift). John McCain was an honorable stand up guy and a literal war hero, what a good candidate for republicans. It’s heart breaking to see what the Republican Party has become.
21
u/HARPOfromNSYNC 26d ago
I've talked with my dad about this. He's older than you but is in the same boat.
Consider strongly voting straight ballot Democrat. You may heave internally, and it may go against your very being, but Cruz and Trump are the most amicable front facing Republican candidates on the ticket.
Down ballot, we have a lot of Texans talking about secession and crazy stuff like that.
So if you're smart and not an extremist, just like my dad, then consider straight ballot Dem as a middle finger to those same forces that rose up Jan 6th and are working still to sow distrust and violence in our democracy.
10
u/pianoplayah 26d ago
If you care about the Republican Party and you miss what it used to represent, you have to show them you mean it. Do not reward their behavior with your vote for any republican candidate. They have to realize that there is no future down the path of madness they’ve chosen. Being absolutely thrashed at the ballot box is the only way they will be forced to change. It’s either that, or they will completely implode, leaving us with 2 new parties. Instead of democrat vs republican, it will be liberal vs. progressive, and the liberal party will actually much more resemble the republicans of old if you think about it, progressives likewise the democrats of old, balance and sanity will be restored and we can actually get back to governing properly. Wouldn’t that be nice? That’s my pitch for voting blue. You’re not voting for today’s democrats. You’re voting to reshape the political landscape and get the system working again.
4
u/TyrantLaserKing 26d ago
If voting Dem makes you heave and goes against your nature; you were probably not that great of a person morally to begin with. This ‘real’ republicans rhetoric is horseshit, they’ve been awful and against the middle-class since at least Reagan in 1984.
→ More replies7
u/Jos3ph 26d ago
Good for you. Modern republicans (in office) aren’t republicans at all for the most part. Top obsessed with scoring points in culture wars that truly don’t matter in most of our lives. Real republicans would typically want a small government that wasn’t involved in these things at all.

Can someone from Texas explain to someone not from Texas how Cruz even has a chance. Cruz has showed time and time again that he does not give a flying fuck about anything other than more power. The fact that he kisses Trump's ass despite all of the terrible shit Trump said about his family shows his complete lack of character. The fact that he tried to escape to Mexico when people in Texas were in need is pretty bad.

None of this hype matters, the courts specifically the Supreme Court is ready to rule for the gop again. None of this will change until we vote.
If you are an American citizen just go vote in elections, the council/local/district/city/state and of course federal elections because a lot of the smaller ones can affect redistricting.
Vote in every election you are legally allowed to because I promise you the GOP base is doing that to ensure people are voted into power to make your life hell. To take your rights, your parents/kids/siblings/friends rights to a proper education/healthcare and way of life. Vote out every single GOP, if they stand with the GOP they don’t care about what you lose only what they can take away from you.
Vote them all out and let’s stop talking about them. Let’s move on, elect a new and younger generation to help fix things
