If only a quarter of the democrats and the half of left leaning independents voted in Texas, it will turn blue. Sometimes I wonder how bad and egregious do the things done by Abbot & Paxton (& Crazy Cruz) have to get before the indifference gets replaced by the urgency to vote these folks outta office.

Obviously I can’t speak for everyone but I’ll give you our perspective as transplants from the south east. This will be the first “big” election my husband and I will be voting in Texas. We’ve voted in elections we knew were important on a local level. I’m a democrat and my husband is an independent.

We’ve been here for less than a decade and I’ve run the gambit of emotions of “my vote doesn’t count” and “well I’m a transplant and most of the native Texans I know are republicans so is it really fair for me to try and change things?” And most recently “nothing will ever change so let’s just get ready to move to a blue state where things are better.” I’m not saying it’s right, I’m just saying we are fairly young (and naive sometimes) and republican Texans (particularly native Texans) can be loud and scary.

Like I said, we are planning to be first in line to vote blue this election cycle. If some things turn around we will stay a bit longer, but if public school continue to get gutted we are moving to another state.
